I'm not going to have enough drafts this year to form an opinion about this. My inclination is to avoid the top closers this year unless there's something format specific to consider.
1:46
Part of that is because the industry used NFBC ADPs more these days, but those are skewed to formats that greatly inflate closer value.
So, leagues that shouldn't be closer mad are catching a secondary infection

I am in a 10 team, head to head keeper league.  Should I keep Fried over Gallen (wins are 5 points)? Thanks.
Brad Johnson
1:46
I would
They're pretty close, but Fried's skill set is simpler. Gallen's a pitchability guy, and that can turn sour.
Long Term Outlook
1:47
I recently joined a keeper league. 20-team league and the team I took over was older. I just traded Devers to Corbin Correll, Gunnar Henderson, and Taj Bradley, top pitching prospect. I then traded Kenley Jansen  and DJ LeMahieu  for Edward Cabrera and Jackson Merrill, among the best prospects in the game, and a SS. What do you think of my two deals?
Brad Johnson
1:47
Excellent work imo
1:48
I'm not a big Cabrera believer, and I tend to think Taj is destined to be hard to manage early in his career. That said, they're good guys to track for this season and reassess later.

Will Barlow be closing for the Royals this year, or be dealt?
Brad Johnson
1:49
He'll probably share with Chapman
Verlander vs. Degrom
1:49
Can only keep one, leaning towards Verlander because of health but degrom will be around longer
Brad Johnson
1:49
I'd do deGrom. I don't perceive much difference in health risk.
1:50
People underestimate health risk with pitchers. I see folks saying things like there's a 40% chance deGrom misses considerable time.
But, what they're not saying is there's basically a 30% chance Sandy Alcantara misses considerable time. Alcantara is an avatar of pitcher health.
Fantasy Value
1:50
My keeper options are Vladdy 1st round, Sandy Alcantara 4th rd, Austin Riley 5th round or Witt Jr. 6th round. I’m also considering Lance McCullers Jr., 18th round. who has the better value in your opinion? standard scoring league.
Brad Johnson
1:51
Witt seems to be the play.

H2H categories, can keep forever, pick 2: Arozarena, Verlander, Devin Williams, Rodon, Varsho, Vinnie P, O’Neil Cruz
Brad Johnson
1:52
I'd do Vinnie P and Varsho or Verlander and Rodon. Just depends how you want to build the roster. I'm assuming it's 12-team mixed or shallower.
I wouldn't worry about multi-year keeper potential too much.
Whichever route you go, hammer it home in the draft.

Year 2 of 5 year keeper. Keeping acuna, Julio rod, Witt Jr and jazz. Pick 2 between Mullins, cease and Edwin diaz. Only start 3 OF so leaning the 2 pitchers. Thoughts?
Brad Johnson
1:53
I'd do the pitchers too

Langeliers a possible Cal Raleigh breakout this year?
Brad Johnson
1:55
Sure, I wouldn't consider them that comparable as hitters, but I guess the broad strokes add up - possible 30 HR pace per 600 PA with contact issues.

In a pts dynasty would you trade Moreno and Outman for W. Brennan and Frelick?
Brad Johnson
1:55
It depends on the points scoring. On the surface, it seems a plausible deal.

Closers
1:56
NL Only Rotisserie 12 team League question re closers. After viewing each teams’ keepers, the only confirmed closer available is Hader. Do I go all in and pay the premium to get him or take chances on the Kimbrel/Hughes types?
Brad Johnson
1:57
For me, that's a highly situational question. If not Hader, then who? If Hader, then who can you roster with the ~3 extra bench spots?

Is Gunnar Henderson worth a 12 team fantasy league roster spot
Brad Johnson
1:57
Absolutely.
Mike

pick 2: Wheeler $12, Mustgrove $12, Gonsolin $1 & Corbin Carroll $1
Brad Johnson

Wheeler and Carroll

Josh Jung or Brett Baty? Who is likeliest to breakthrough longer term as a fringy all star?
Brad Johnson
1:58
I like Baty more long term, but Jung should have a cleaner look in 2023.
I value players being in a position where I can assess their talent with some degree of accuracy
Baty's liable to bounce on and off the roster.
Not a royals fan but

Vinnie P finishes this year as the number 1 first baseman in fantasy, change my mind
