I don't think anything that starts with "on the one hand, they won the championship" ends with any answer other than yes, especially when you think about how our perception of Torres has changed for the better between now and then.

Does J.D. Martinez really count as an outfielder? Replacing him with Jackie Bradley Jr. looks great defensively but is a huge downgrade with the sticks.
Meg Rowley
1:04
We can assume a generous posture toward our fellow chatters.

How do the fangraph's meetups come about? And also, there should be one in LA.
Meg Rowley
1:06
They tend to be a combination of places we are going to be for events, and places that authors live so that there is someone to organize.
1:07
We went to Denver this year because with the staff changes, doing a Spring Training trip (which we have done in past years, though I haven't been to one because I wasn't on staff yet) wasn't going to work time wise and Denver is sort of centrally located.

How likely is it that a team currently not in play for trading for Machado lands him as a free agent?
Meg Rowley
1:08
How likely are they to back up a truck full of money?
1:09
A lot goes into free agency decisions, and I'd imagine (without knowing, mind you) that where on the infield he plays and being with a contender will matter to him, but also, he gets one real shot at the big, big deal.

What is higher... the average all-star player's regular WAR, or Mike Trout's WAASR (wins above all star team replacement)?
Meg Rowley
1:09
well this is a fun little thing that might inspire an instagraphs post

Hypothetically, if Muncy were one of those guys who plays *too hard* to the detriment of their body, and his coach asked him to not play at max effort, would he have to change his name?
Meg Rowley
1:10
But what of his spirit? Might that not remain quite extra?

1:11
Do you know if they were using MLB baseballs during the Futures Game?
Meg Rowley
1:11
I... I don't know the answer to this. Hold that thought.

Who would win a Fangraphs home run derby?
Meg Rowley
1:13
There is no good way for me to answer this question without offending a coworker so I will just say David Appelman, who was so nice to hire me to write about baseball and edit other people's baseball words.

What happened to charlie blackmon?
Meg Rowley
1:14
His beard ate him. It was very sad.
His June was kind of gross but July seems to be going pretty well
1:15
Blackmon is good. I imagine it was just a little weird thing.
Also, my favorite moment from our Denver trip was when some of us were sitting in our hotel's bar after the Rockies game, and Charlie Blackmon, who is quite easy to recognize, walked in.
1:16
I said, "Hey, that's Charlie Blackmon." And another writer, who will remain nameless, yelled "Hey Charlie!"
1:17
At which point I learned what face Charlie Blackmon makes when confronted with nerds after a loss, which is "I will be nice as I say 'Hey guys' but please let me just drink a beer."
Chapman situation sucked
1:17
The reason Chapman wasn't worth it is because he wasn't just (though that word is doing a lot of work) an abuser, but an unrepentant one. It meant that at least this lifelong cubs fan started to root for blown saves (and then worry about what he would do with his rage when he left the ballpark). The only saving grace was cubs fans getting together and donating money to a shelter based on how successful he was in each game.

This is a very important part of our calculus that you are quite right to remind us of.
Pretty much all of the Yankees moves around Chapman that season took advantage of some yucky arbitrage, and the Cubs made an active choice to go get him.
1:19
I think the single best thing MLB could do to improve it's DV policy would be to make guys ineligible for postseason play in the season of the suspension, just like they do with PEDs.

What is the best esoteric food item to purchase at Safeco?
Meg Rowley
1:20
The grasshoppers are better than you think, though over spiced.
Granted, they aren't esoteric to everyone. What proteins we think are food vs. vermin is a cultural question.

Can we put the kibosh on referring to K. Hernandez only by his first name in a format that doesn't easily allow for Spanish-character accents?
Meg Rowley
1:21
Alternatively, we could get in the habit of using accents, which are pretty easy on most phones and computers now.

Can you rank the following in terms of a) quality and b) value?  Lance Lynn, Nathan Eovaldi, Cole Hamels, Dan Duffy.

God, the available pitching this year is so yuck.
Updates on pressing questions of great import:
1:23
We will not be having an ASG live chat. We are abandoning you in twitter's wild confines. We are very bad people
1:24
As for the ball at the Futures Game, my sources aren't sure though they assume the MLB ball. Eric notes that the ball was "jumpy."

Jesus, people.  Chapman wasn’t even charged!  Take your anger out on someone who’s actually guilty, like Jose Reyes.  We have due process in this country for a reason.
