I thought pretty good, but it doesn't seem all that likely at this point. Struggled this year with allowing home runs.

If and when a trade is made, does Nutting have to sign off on it or does he have enough faith/ trust in Cherington and Shelton?   Thank you.
Mike Persak
3:56
I'd imagine Nutting knows what's going on. Not sure of the process, but I assume Cherington has free range to make the calls, for the most part.

From your perspective, why do you think that teams like the Indians make these blockbuster trades, while in other years when the Pirates have made trades of their bigger players the return has seemed suspect from the start?  Are other teams wise that somebody just wants to dump salary and hold back on their offers?
Mike Persak
3:57
I think every negotiation is unique. Sometimes teams have better negotiators. Sometimes buyers are more desperate. It's all variable, based on both the player's ability and contract, along with multiple other things
Wayne
3:57
Would the Pirates be buyers this year if everyone on their IL were healthy? I've been reliably informed their fortunes would've been drastically different this year should those guys not have been hurt.
Mike Persak
3:58
Lol, no. I think they'd be much better with Moran and the bullpen, but not buying. Think it's important for teams this year to keep their heads on straight, knowing that qualifying for the playoffs in 2020 doesn't mean you're a contender in a 162-game, eight-team-playoff season
Ke Bryan
3:58
Why don't the Pirates like me?
Mike Persak
3:58
You're in luck, Ke'Bryan. Welcome to The Show!
James
3:58
Isn't it time for another Yankees/Bucs trade?
Dick
3:58
Any trades yet? We have 4 minutes left.
Mike Persak
3:59
That'd be fun, wouldn't it?
Neal H
3:59
So no chatters have taken a shot at me yet? Strange. I did leave the cupboard bare, and that Archer trade was truly abysmal, but I did some decent work there. Been looking for a new gig on LinkedIn...
Jason Mackey
3:59
Nothing yet, Dick. Sometimes things trick in late, don't forget.
Chief Powhatan
3:59
How come you guys can't get on KDKA's Cochran Sports Showdown on Sunday nights?
Mike Persak
3:59
Nothing yet, Neal. Stick around.
Joe the Barber
3:59
Hello...as a barber, I would have loved to seen Clevinger with his hair style and facial hair traded to the Yankees with their hair policy.  Nobody would recognize him!!
Mike Persak
4:00
Remember when Johnny Damon went to New York? That was fun.
O Cruz
4:00
Can a 6’ 7” dude really play short? I would be the tallest EVER at that position, no?
Jason Mackey
4:00
I've been on there for a couple years and I guess will continue to be on. They had to stop for tech reasons -- you'll notice it was only Mueller and Fillipponi, both doing it from the Fan studio -- but I guess they have the capability to do it over the computer now.
Mike Persak
4:01
Yeah, I think so, but it's something you've got to keep an eye on at all times. No reason for me to believe Cruz can't do it. That also might change when he gets to the majors. Wait and see.
Tim

Stalling will be Super 2 eligible this offseason, so 4 years remaining, or through 2024.
Mike Persak
4:02
I think that's correct, yes
coco

10-21 and standing pat? We all know the definition of insanity..
Adam Bittner
4:02
Looking like a bit of a dud of a deadline league-wide here. Probably to be expected given the circumstances, but also adds context to what's happening with the Pirates. It's not just them not making big deals.
Woj
4:02
Assuming no other trades are made by Bucs (besides Dyson), what does that say about them?  No other team interested enough in any of the current Pirates, GMBC setting too high a price, some of both?
Mike Persak
4:03
There is the possibility that nobody wanted the PIrates' players badly enough to make them a deal they couldn't refuse, ya know? Just cuz you're losing now doesn't mean you need to give away your best players for scraps.
Paul
4:03
Regardless of the haul, doesn’t it make sense to move Frazier this year? Clogging a spot in the lineup and infield for younger players coming up?
Jason Mackey
4:03
Not sure. Maybe a little bit of all of those things. If the Pirates had better assets, they would also have options. Maybe if they had more, GMBC wouldn't feel like he had to maximize return. I think it'll be interesting to hear more when Ben talks. And also, stuff does trickle in late.
Andy
4:03
hey fellas -- any chance that the pirates actually buy a good MLB player today? not for 2020, just moving forward. maybe a package built around jared oliva gets them something worth getting excited abt
Mike Persak
4:03
I kept coming back to that, too. Frazier being dealt would help solve some positional questions, for sure.
Jason Mackey
4:04
I don't think that's the direction they're going, Andy. If they do anything -- and it looks like they may not -- it'll be for future pieces.
What the Buc?
4:04
Anything in under the wire? Or are we packing up?
Jason Mackey
4:04
Working on that. Not sure yet.
Joel
4:04
The Pirates' last realistic chance to do something exciting in the trade market was the Cole trade and Huntington blew it in truly epic fashion. Then he decided to give more for Archer that he got for Cole. Genius work there. Cherington is in worse shape than when Huntington took over from Littlefield.
Jason Mackey
4:04
Thanks, Joel. I think those takes are probably a little harsh, but I get the point you're trying to convey.
Chief Powhatan
4:05
I'm still enjoying the departure of Ray Searage.  Just wanted to throw that in fellas.
Jason Mackey
4:05
I know thee results haven't been there, but I like a lot about the process with Marin and Meccage. I think it's unfair to make a judgement after this short of a time period.
Wayne
4:05
If all they trade is Dyson, is this trade deadline a failure? Are they over valuing the meager talent they have?
Joel
4:05
Let's face it --- once Kela got hurt that was the end of the trade deadline for the Pirates. They are in this unbelievable situation where they have no useful veterans and no exciting young players. Staggering lack of talent. It's a nightmare.
