The pirates need to get another bullpen arm and call it a day
Sean Gentille

There are plenty of hockey guys that fit the bill. Sometimes it's just who they are. I dunno if that's the the case with Archer or what, but still.

Here's that link to the Archer story:

Reese Mcguire currently ranked #21 jays prospect. Slashing 235/323/331 in AAA. Harold Ramirez not even listed among jays top 30. There was some outrage at the time of that trade in terms of throwing those 2 "prospects" in. The trade seems not too terrible now considering that they rid themselves of the liriano contract. I can't think of a better example of the volatility(?) of prospects and how we tend to over value them. I believe Mcguire and Ramirez were ranked 8,9 in the system, at the time. agree/disagree?

Sure.
Sean Gentille
2:41
That was a bad trade because it was a contender using assets to dump a salary.
McGuire and Ramirez's performance since is irrelevant. The point was, and is, that they could've been used to buy a baseball asset, not dump a financial one.

Dan Connolly: "Orioles are close enough along with another trade that medicals are being reviewed. You know how that goes. Don't know names. I just know it isn't Jones."
2:42
Gausman to the Brewers is my guess.
Andrew McCutchen is in the Giants lineup today. So is Gorkys Hernandez. KNOW WHO ISN'T? Alen Hanson. #hugwatch

This chat has been called a throwback to the old AOL chat rooms. I am not proud.

On Liriano trade -- Hutchison being such a big miss also contributed to the poor quality of this trade.  Pirates claimed it wasn't salary relief but it really was

If it were a throwback to AOL chat rooms, I'd already be fired.
Stephen J. Nesbitt

Neal Huntington claiming the trade was done to bring aboard a guy who could be a starting pitcher next year ... and then never using that guy as a major league starting pitcher ... was bad.
Sean Gentille

IMHO

Shocked there are not more people asking for Cutch to come to the Pirates
Sean Gentille
2:44
People realize that it's over.

Who is untouchable in the Pirates farm system right now?
Chris Hansen
2:45
Why don't you have a seat right over there, Sean?
Stephen J. Nesbitt
2:45
Untouchable probably doesn't exist.
Sean Gentille
2:45
I WAS JUST BEIN' STUPID I GUESS
Morty

Poor Cutch -- free agency is NOT going to be kind to him
Stephen J. Nesbitt
2:45
How kind will it be to Bryce Harper?
Nemo
2:45
The absolutely last thing the Bucs need is another OF.  Cutch ain't coming back.

i'm shocked that in a 4-hour chat on the pg sports page that no one has yet suggested signing Jarvis Jones and converting him to 1B because he played there in high school.
Sean Gentille

We're a baseball town now.

The name Gausman reminds me of how Harry and Lloyd leave a note in Dumb and Dumber for "Gas Man", and then Mental thinks the note is for him because he has gastrointestinal issues.

I guess this isn't baseball related. Time for me to delete this before accidentally hitting send and

Will Cervelli ever be converted to 1B?
Stephen J. Nesbitt
2:47
For his own sake, he probably should be. But it will be done with much kicking and screaming.
Dawn
2:47
Any update on Archer?
Stephen J. Nesbitt
2:47
Not recently, Dawn.
Sean Gentille

And also, good luck if you're a contender and trying to play Cervelli's bat at first.
