Affordable is an illusion in this city.
1:01
Actually the internet says this is an affordable city, so what I mean is with this team it's difficult to decipher what is affordable.
Sean Gentille
1:01
Back to Gorkys, if I may.
Ryan
1:01
I doubt we give up Keller
JD
1:01
Are the talks for Gausman pretty much dead?
Sean Gentille
1:01
He is 30 years old with a .770 OPS in 309(!) PAs with the Giants. GORKYS HERNANDEZ.
Stephen J. Nesbitt
1:01
I heard yesterday that they were alive, with the Orioles doing background work on a number of minor leaguers. Haven't heard anything new since.
1:02
Wrong Giant. Bring back Alen Hanson.
David Borne
1:02
Obviously I like Chris Archer, but I don’t know if I’d be willing to move Keller for him just given the team’s current place in the stadings.
Stephen J. Nesbitt
1:02
I agree.

1:02
Gausmann controllable or rental?
Stephen J. Nesbitt
1:02
Controllable.
Chow
1:02
Don't get your hopes up boys lol
Andy
1:03
I was thinking Luplow, Stallings, Feliz, and Holmes for Archer.  Something like that possible?
Stephen J. Nesbitt
1:03
I'll ask.
Sean Gentille
1:03
Aren't we all controllable?
Stephen J. Nesbitt
1:03
For the right price, yes.
The answer I got back was "abso-bleepin'-lutely not," Andy. Those are four non-top-level prospects.

How do you see Glasnow fitting in Pirates plans in the future? Backend of pen now seems locked up next few seasons. Do you see a move back to rotation next season, rather than middle relief? Or could he be part of a package deal here in the next few hours?
Stephen J. Nesbitt
1:05
We discussed his future role earlier, MG, but as for your last question, I think you'd still be selling low on Glasnow now. Two years ago, you could have gotten the whole Rays team for him. Now he needs to show teams he can be a bonafide starter down the road, not just a long reliever. Those don't bring such a haul as starters.

all the rumors have been around pitchers.  Any word on Huntington seeking positional players?  Middle IF and defensive/baserunning help could be a plus
Stephen J. Nesbitt
1:05
That's Alen Hanson's music.
Sean Gentille

Isn’t it more likely Meadows is the headliner going to Rays for Archer ? With Dickerson for 2019 and possible extend.  Or how it is much easier to get an outfielder vs a good solid affordable starting pitcher.
Stephen J. Nesbitt
1:06
I think so, yes.
Chow
1:06
My opinion, Archer won't happen. Don't get your hopes up boys
Stephen J. Nesbitt
1:06
OK, Chow.

1:06
Am I the only one who looks at Sonny Gray, and thinks AJ Burnett 2.0?  A former top pitcher who needs a change of scenery and thrives?
Stephen J. Nesbitt
1:06
They look nothing alike.
Sean Gentille
1:07
I'd have to look farther in that to have an actual answer, but Sonny Gray is somehow only 28. He's been around forever.
Also he has the name of, like, a bootlegger or something. That makes him sound older.

The Kela trade is good, stabilizes the bullpen for a few more years, strengthens the team while only giving up a wildcard prospect. But is there a thought that throwing out names like Keller and Hayes as trade bait is selling the future for so-so chances at the wild card this year? Even if that future is just as trade bait next year when the playoffs odds could be better?
Stephen J. Nesbitt
1:08
Yes, trading those guys damages your outlook three and four years down the road. But taking on new guys who are already big league arms and who will be around for two years isn't a bad move. It might not work out in your favor, but winning teams have to take a chance here and there. With that said, I'm pretty much sure I don't think Keller should be traded.
Sean Gentille
1:08
Also, re: Sonny Gray -- even though he's only 2018, he hasn't been good since 2015. That is alarming.
1:09
And granted, he was great that year.
Tony
1:09
Realize though Archer’s 4 ish ERA is in the incredibly powerful AL East. Yankees and Red Sox rule that division, and they both have powerhouse players on either team. A new division would do him wonders
Sean Gentille
1:09
But he has stunk with the Yankees and wasn't good at the end in Oakland either.
Bambi
1:09
While adding a quality SP would be nice with the addition of Kela our starters really only need to go 5-6 IP
Stephen J. Nesbitt
1:09
Counterpoint: Teams can still score a lot of runs in 5-6 innings.
Chow

Sherman says Pit, Mil, or Atl.
