With the #22 pick, the Portland Lumberjacks take SP Tyler Mahle from the Reds.
Connor Byrne
1:44
Mahle was No. 1 on my Reds board. Hmm...
Tim Dierkes
1:45
Woohoo!
Connor Byrne
1:47
With the 23rd pick, the Vipers select Phillies reliever Victor Arano

With the #24 pick, the Portland Lumberjacks take C Raudy Read from the Nationals.
Not loving what's out there at the moment!

This is great, thanks to MLB Trade Rumors for giving us some 'baseball' action. It sure has been missed!

Are you guys pretending you don't know who the teams would pull back in the second round (even though you know for this exercise it's the top 3 remaining vote-getters)? Any leaning toward poaching from higher up the list in effort to "save" a lower player you like better for later?
Connor Byrne
1:50
It's a pretty bleak list
Tim Dierkes
1:50
It's hard to pretend not to know when it's right there, so we are operating with knowledge teams wouldn't actually have.  I would say I have considered who will get pulled back a bit.

Do players drafted in expansion draft have to be on 40 man roster and do they have to stay on the 26man roster ala rule 5?
Tim Dierkes
1:51
They do not, so it's good to consider who has minor league options remaining.

How come players being selected aren't on the excel list?

This is pretty interesting. Thanks for sharing. Nice to have some fun drama to read about for a change.
Connor Byrne

He's been pretty bad, but the Vipers select Brewers SS Orlando Arcia at 25

Plus, any expansion teams would have had a draft or 2 before they started,  and usually fill their teams with mostly fringe free-agents after the draft

With the #26 pick, the Portland Lumberjacks take 3B Kelvin Gutierrez from the Royals.

You guys crushed it on this draft and the whole exercise. Well done!

Have you considered selecting veteran players that could be traded in theory?  A la Kevin Reimer for Dante Bichette or Bobby Abreu for Kevin Stocker.
Tim Dierkes
1:55
I have considered it, yes.  There are certainly some cases where a veteran guy could be traded for something better than some unproven guy.

Way more pitcher heavy than I anticipated. If I am building a franchise, I want the greater stability of position players.
Tim Dierkes
1:56
I hear you, but I also think the type of position players available in an expansion draft don't really offer stability.
Connor Byrne
1:57
Pick 27: Marlins RHP Robert Dugger
Tim Dierkes
1:58
With the #28 pick, the Portland Lumberjacks take RP Rowan Wick from the Cubs.
Nightshade
1:59
That would have been my selection out of the Cubs.
Tom
1:59
Aaron Hicks not taken over Loaisiga? Crazy
Tim Dierkes
1:59
I would say it's generally his contract and health record.

Is it a bad sign for the Cubs that they are this low in having a player picked here?
Tim Dierkes
2:00
Yes.  One thing doing this research showed me is who has depth in their organization.  The Cubs do not have depth.
Connor Byrne
2:00
The Vipers choose Mets RHP Drew Smith at 29
Tim Dierkes
2:00
Well, you did it Connor.  You made me have to take a Tiger.
Connor Byrne
2:01
hahaha, sorry

With the #30 pick, the Portland Lumberjacks take SP Tyler Alexander from the Tigers.
Probably not who you were expecting, but I'll take the command and control back of the rotation lefty.
Alright let's pause for a sec and I'll paste in the rosters so far.
2:02
Here's my Lumberjacks:
Hmm that doesn't paste easily.
