Probably just finalizing contract terms and a background check, etc.

Baez to Boston ? Say it isn’t so. They need to commit to Boagaerts and find a short term second basemen until Nick Yorke can make the jump. Guy can rake..
Anthony Franco
3:43
Yeah I don't love the fit for the reasons you mentioned. I'd rather sign a stopgap like César Hernández and wait on Yorke
Santiago Beltran
3:43
Are the Yankees going to make a move for a catcher?
Anthony Franco
3:44
I imagine they've at least been poking around
Have to decide on Sánchez before December 2 (although a transaction freeze could push that back), so I'm guessing Cashman and company have been working the phones on trade possibilities
3:45
It's tough because free agency basically offers only Yan Gomes and Roberto Pérez. So they might have to look into trades for an upgrade
Mitch Garver and Jacob Stallings make a lot of sense there IMO, but it's not clear either the Twins or Pirates would want to move those guys
Thors new Halo
3:46
I think Buxton would be available for a controllable SP, no?
B. Buxton
3:46
Where do I play next season, and what kind of package do I bring back.
Anthony Franco
3:46
I'd guess the most likely scenario is he stays in Minnesota, either on an extension or just via arb
But if he gets moved, the Phillies, Giants and Braves stand out as really strong fits
3:47
That's not an exhaustive list, obviously. Teams would get creative with their outfields to accommodate a player that talented

3:47
What free agents could be an interesting target for the Pirates to sign on one-year deals and hope to flip at the deadline?
Anthony Franco
3:47
Vince Velasquez, maybe Andrelton Simmons?
Arizz
3:47
Where does Anthony Rizzo sign? And for how long? Three years?
Anthony Franco
3:48
We pegged him at three years based on the fact that he turned down five not too long ago and generally seems to have a great reputation in the game
But I'm not entirely convinced he gets there. He's gotten really pull-heavy the past couple years, and his offense now looks more good than elite
3:49
I think Rizzo's name value outstrips his on-field production at this point (although I'm sure teams will/should give him a bit of a bonus for the clubhouse presence). I could see him settling for two

Which former Cub, traded this past season, is most likely to return to the team in 2022?  Thanks!
Anthony Franco
3:50
I'd say Rizzo is likeliest of that group but would be surprised if any of him, Bryant, Schwarber or Báez are back
It's not directly answering your question, but I wonder if they'd look into a Soler reunion?
Belt
3:51
Am I accepting or rejecting my Qo
Anthony Franco
3:51
Yeah that's a tough one. I lean toward accepting but I'm like 55/45 on that
He's already been rumored to be discussing a multi-year deal with SF. Could see him rejecting the QO but coming back not long after on a two-year contract at a slightly lower AAV

In response to an already answered question, does a package of Randal Grichuk and one of the jays many catching options plus whatever enough to get Castillo from the Reds?
Anthony Franco
3:52
Nah, Grichuk's not adding value in any trade package
3:53
He's due a little under $20M over the next two seasons. If he were a free agent this winter, I don't think he'd get 2/20. The Jays could trade Grichuk, but I think they'd probably have to eat some of the money, and he wouldn't be an integral part of a package for a player as good as Castillo

I think Cody Bellinger made almost $18m last year courtesy of arbitration. So, after having an absolutely terrible year how much do you think his number will go down? Can it even go down or is the floor set at whatever the most he’s gotten before?
Anthony Franco
3:54
Matt Swartz projects him at $16.1M, which is exactly what he made this year
3:55
Arbitration salaries basically never go backwards, even if the player has an awful or injury-plagued year. That's just how the system is designed

Does MLBTR ever write articles to to “push” GMs into making a move? I felt like the last two Mariners articles were like poking Dipoto with a stick. C’ mon, do something!
Anthony Franco
3:55
Haha no, we're not trying to spur front offices to do certain things
3:56
Obviously, we do a lot of analysis that involves placing ourselves in teams' shoes and opining on how they might or should proceed, but we're not actively trying to push anyone in any specific direction
Chris Ammo
3:56
Who is your best guess for Mets next manager? Excluding Stroman who would you like to see as Syndegards replacement?
Anthony Franco
3:57
I wonder about the Billy Eppler/Brad Ausmus thing, since Eppler hired Ausmus in Anaheim not long ago
They replaced him after one year, but it seems like that was because Angels owner Arte Moreno really wanted Joe Maddon more than anything else
3:58
As for the rotation, I think the Mets make a lot of sense for the A's rotation options. Manaea or Bassitt would be pretty significant upgrades to the middle of the rotation
William Lamar Beane
3:59
I read in a past MLBTR article that if the A's didn't make the playoffs in 2021 (which they did not), then Ramon Laureano's suspension would impact his service time and possibly delay his free agency to 2026. Is this still the case? Any clarity?
Anthony Franco
3:59
We never got a definitive answer on this, but I'll try to see if we can get more clarity
