I think they're going into the year with what they have. It's one of the better rotations in the league, in my view
Farhan
5:26
Do you think we should pick up another bat before opening day, with Belt, LaStella, Longoria, Yaz and Late night Lamonte Wade having issues? Or do you think we have enough depth that we'll be fine?
Anthony Franco
5:28
Adding another bat makes sense in an ideal world, but I'm not sure who that is at this point. Could sell me on them signing Conforto and pushing Yaz to center field full-time but that's not ideal in that ballpark and there's no indication it's really under consideration
John
5:28
Do you think Brett Gardner makes sense for the Phillies?
Anthony Franco
5:29
Sure, I'd rather have him as my center fielder than Matt Vierling or Odúbel Herrera
Confused Dodgers Fan

The dodgers really gonna bank on Andrew Heaney, Gonsolin and Tyler Anderson to provide quality starts? And we're acting like the bullpen is still just as good?
Anthony Franco
5:30
A back of the rotation with Price, Gonsolin, Heaney and Anderson is alright. To the extent the Dodgers have a weakness, it's probably the bullpen, but it looks like an average-ish group on paper
U got chris rock’d
5:31
Odds freeman plays out that contract with little to no regression
Anthony Franco
5:32
For the entire contract? Pretty slim. But he should still be very good for the next few years or so and unquestionably makes a contending Dodgers team better
C'mon
5:32
Is there really any reason NOT to deal a starting pitcher if you're the Marlins?  They're in peak demand, fungible in terms of injury, they have plenty of depth and they're a dark horse to contend in a packed NL East.  Surely the Dodgers, Yankees, Twins, Cardinals, etc. will stretch and overpay a little now more so than later when other teams may also realize they're out and make guys available.
Anthony Franco
5:33
From an overhead view, I don't disagree. But I'm not sure which guy that is. Alcantara and Rogers are core pieces, López missed basically the entire second half with shoulder trouble
5:34
Hernández is vaguely interesting but has huge home run troubles and was hurt most of last year. Luzardo's a bounce-back candidate. If teams were willing to give up a lot for López, I'd have considered moving him
But I'm not sure how concerned other clubs were about his shoulder

I’m not a believer in Pache’s bat, but do you think he could become a Kiermaier/pre breakout Buxton CF where he’s worth 2-3 WAR even if he doesn’t hit?
Anthony Franco
5:35
Yep
More peak Kevin Pillar-ish than pre-breakout Buxton, I think. Buxton was mostly held back by health reasons. Pache's issue is he's just not as good a hitter
Phillies
5:36
Do we have a shot at wild car
Anthony Franco
5:36
Absolutely. I wouldn't pick them as a playoff team right now but they're certainly in the mix. They have a shot at the division even
Franklin
5:37
You cannot be serious that the Dodgers rotation is a strength.  This is the weakest group in recent memory.  Almost nothing after Buehler, Urias, and Kershaw.  This is all local sports talk radio talks about.
Anthony Franco
5:39
How many teams have a better fifth starter than Tony Gonsolin? Would having Montas make the Dodgers better? Absolutely, but I doubt there are too many teams that have an above-average pitcher as their #4/5 starters
The Brewers do, maybe the Astros/Mets. Not too many more though
Dennis L
5:40
Who do you think will have a bounce back season between Cody Bellinger, Gleyber Torres, and Gary Sanchez?
Anthony Franco
5:40
Most bullish on Gleyber of that group
BigChew
5:40
Will you guys have time to do the offseason in review series? Really enjoyed those reads...
Anthony Franco
5:40
Yeah, I believe the plan is to work on those once the regular season gets underway
5:41
Might linger a little longer than normal this year because the lockout required the offseason to not end until like last week
Yusmeiro Petit
5:41
I pitched in 78 games last year with a 1.03 WHIP, will anyone sign me?
Anthony Franco
5:42
Yeah he should get a big league deal somewhere
JN
5:42
Would Conforto actually consider waiting until after the draft to sign?
Anthony Franco
5:42
I still can't see that happening
Alex Anthopoulus
5:42
I see Dodgers fans complaining about their lack of SP depth, but the same can be considered about the Braves too. Nevertheless, I see the Dodgers as a slight favorite in the NL. Thoughts?
Anthony Franco
5:43
I think the Dodgers are the best team in MLB, yeah. I'd have the Braves right near the top of the second tier
Certainly doesn't mean they can't repeat. Should be better this season than they were last year
Montana
5:44
Are the Royals starters set or are they still wanting to trade for a starter?
Anthony Franco
5:44
Another one of the teams where I could buy them signing Cueto. Not only do they love reuniting with guys they've had before, could use a little more certainty at the back end
5:45
But I don't think they'll make a major move like trading for Montas. I'm sure they're counting on a few of the younger guys to take a step forward and they can reevaluate at the deadline whether that's happening
Cheesehead
5:45
Do the Brewers stay with Rowdy Tellez and other current roster guys like Hiura or look for a regular everyday 1B?
Anthony Franco
5:46
Feels like it's Tellez/Hiura for now, although it's another situation where a deadline deal seems possible
I thought Milwaukee was a good fit for basically any of the non-Freeman first basemen out there this winter: Olson, Rizzo, Voit
5:47
They sat it out, but I could see them trading for someone like Josh Bell in July if Hiura/Tellez aren't cutting it
