Mark P

(BVW = Mets general manager)

I'd lean towards Bradley.  He's had a couple of years where he was a legitimately good hitter, whereas Pillar has always been subpar at the plate
Jose
9:57
Does Abreu sign a big extension with Chicago after accepting the QO?
Mark P
9:57
Not a "big extension," but a one-year add-on doesn't seem out of the question.
Rendon
9:58
Name a mystery team you could see signing me
Mark P
9:58
Just because they have tons of payroll space......the Twins.  Sign Rendon, move Sano to first base, boom.
That being said, I'd be very surprised if the Twins signed Rendon
Why

Is everyone trying to ship Riley out of Atlanta like he's a huge bust?
Mark P
10:00
I think the general feeling is that the Braves are on the cusp of a World Series, so why not trade Riley for a proven star.

But overall, yeah, Riley is an excellent prospect who had kind of a rough rookie year.  It happens.  I think Atlanta still has very high hopes for him
AZ Ranger
10:01
Any truth to the Ryu-Choo connection and their desire to play together?  If so does that bring Ryu to TEX or will that be something Ryu discusses with Friedman as a way to resigning with LAD?
Mark P
10:02
I'm sure they'd like to play together in a perfect world, though I'm not sure Choo's presence would get Ryu to, say, turn down a better offer from a more proven contender
Chris
10:03
Haniger to the Cardinals needs to happen. Hudson, Bader and Reyes for him!!
Mark P
10:04
The Mariners would take that trade in a heartbeat, but STL isn't going to offer anything close to that
Big Chief
10:04
Maikel Franco to the Tigers for Zimmermann and cash make sense?
Mark P
10:04
Not really.  The Phils can find better SPs than Zimmermann elsewhere, and they can always just non-tender Franco
Kevin S
10:05
Do you feel the Jays have a legitimate core and will be a force in the near future? If they feel like  flexing their financial muscles, they can make life difficult for the Yanks and Rays
Mark P
10:06
Their core group has a lot of promise already, and that's not counting players like Pearson, Groshans, and others still on the way up.  It's been a long time since the Jays have had an actual homegrown group of legitimate everyday players (let alone stars) all up and producing at the same time
Kelly Grubers wing man
10:09
Does Ken Giles for Brandon Marsh seem like a fair deal?
Mark P
10:09
No way do the Angels trade a top 90-100 type prospect for one year of Giles
Homie the Clown
10:10
Given his injury history and penchant for Koolaid manning the outfield wall, what is Byron Buxton's trade value now? With Royce Lewis as a potential replacement, might the Twins try to move him this offseason?
Mark P
10:10
Twins would be trading low on Buxton if they moved him this winter, which is why I think he isn't going anywhere
John
10:11
Thoughts on verlander over cole for Cy young? I think analytics may say verlander but the eye test is cole. He was clearly the best pitcher this season
Mark P
10:11
It was a virtual coin flip between the two, they were both great.  I wouldn't had no problem with Cole winning either
Brendan
10:12
Howdy Mark! What do you think the Nats do at 1B and 2B?
Mark P
10:13
Re-sign Zim, and sign short-term players at both positions to platoon with Zimmerman and handle 2B until Kieboom is ready
tad2b13
10:13
What's your opinion of the Kapler hire?  Thanks Mark.
Mark P
10:15
Farhan Zaidi (Giants president of baseball ops) clearly trusts and believes in Kapler, to the point that he was willing to put up with the inevitable backlash that came with hiring a manager who was just fired after two years of disappointing baseball.  We'll see if it's a better fit for Kapler in SF, though I'm kind of wary about it
Brazen Hazen
10:15
Could the dbacks pry whit merrifield from the royals? Would be a perfect fit atop the snakes batting order and marte could stick in c.f.
Mark P
10:16
He'd be a great fit, but Merrifield would draw attention from most of the league if KC put him up for sale.
Rick Hahn
10:16
My comments about having realistic expectations this year certainly seem like I’m putting long term success over short term success. Does this mean I won’t trade future pieces but still sign big FA?
Mark P
10:17
Rick Hahn = White Sox GM

My guess is that yes, Chicago will go the free agent route rather than trades at this point.  Sox have the payroll to spend
Travis
10:18
If the M’s want to move Seager, what kind of package do they need to make up for his “poison pill” clause that makes his 2022 option guaranteed?  What kind of return could they expect from a 3B needy team if they were able to cover for the 2022 option?
Mark P
10:20
Reminder: if Seager is traded, his $15MM club option for 2022 becomes a player option (so essentially fully guaranteed).  So that makes his price tag $52MM over three years, and I'd guess the Mariners would have to eat the big majority of that contract
City of Angels
10:20
What would it take for Angels to make the playoff and see Trout in October?
Mark P
10:21
Pitching, pitching, and more pitching
btw, that Julio Teheran vs. Alex Wood is almost dead even through 865 votes.
Alfonzo
10:23
Who do yanks trade for Max Fried
Mark P
10:23
The Braves aren't trading Max Fried
Wire Fan
10:23
What is the trade value of Ian Happ?  Are Cubs fans overvaluing a good Sept?
Mark P
10:24
Happ's value took a big hit in 2019, though that doesn't mean he's at rock-bottom.  If I'm the Cubs, I'm looking at other "change of scenery" prospect types
Billy
10:25
Any chance the Yankees release Jacoby  soon to free a 40-man spot?
