Any chance of Bobby Grich making the HoF?  Dude's career numbers as a second baseman were ridiculous.
Mark P
10:24
Grich is another guy who has been weirdly overlooked by the Hall.  He should be in
Russ
10:24
Taijuan Walker to the Astros? Morton and Cole 2.0?
Mark P
10:25
A lot of teams should be going after Walker.  The fact that the D'Backs cut him at all is a red flag, but on paper, he seems like a player who can still break out if healthy
Mariners
10:26
Omar trade... seams like a little light on my return.  Thoughts?
Mark P
10:27
It shows how much teams value draft picks that the 71st selection and an average prospect was enough to land Narvaez, though his defensive issues aren't nothing

10:27
Is it just me or is there more attention on players heading to Asia this winter?
Mark P
10:28
More and more players are taking the leap (and extra money and playing time) of going to Japan or South Korea rather than toil away in the minors.  Since we've seen more than a few cases of guys reinventing themselves overseas and then returning to nice contracts in MLB, seems a risk worth taking

LAD: Lindor.  PHI: Gonsolin.  CLE: Seager, Bohm as the headliners in a 3-team trade.  Who says no?
Mark P
10:29
Phillies definitely say no.  Cleveland probably says no too

10:29
Pham vs Renfroe who win un this trade SD or Tampa
Mark P
10:31
This was a really interesting deal, since it seems like the rare trade that seems like a clear loss for the Rays, who almost never take clear losses in deals.  I'm not really high on Renfroe, who is already 27 and doesn't offer much more than power.  Pham is older but a much better all-around player.
10:32
Obviously the money played a role, as it always does for Tampa, but I thought they'd be more willing to spend in a year when they surely must feel they can be legitimate contenders
Vegas
10:33
If the season started today who is the biggest upset you would pick to win the World Series?
Mark P
10:34
Of teams that have anything of a realistic chance?  Arizona
A.J. Preller
10:35
What can I do to get rid of Wil Myers contract? Is a bad contract swap for possible with teams trying to get under the luxury tax? Cubs (Darvish) or Red Sox (Price)?
Mark P
10:35
The Cubs have zero use for Myers.  I feel like people propose some version of Price-for-Myers in every single chat, and while I can see the argument, I think the Sox would think they can do better at first base.
10:36
Since they need rotation help even with Price still in the mix, let alone without him

10:37
Isn't DeJong more valuable than Lindor, realistically? He was worth about as much as Lindor last season, and is super cheap and under control for a long time. I wouldn't do a Lindor for DeJong straight up.
Mark P
10:38
DeJong is a good player, but he also has 10.5 fWAR since 2017.  Lindor is a great player, and has 17.7 in that same timeframe.

Hey Mark: Who could you see the Giants acquiring via trade or signing?
Mark P
10:40
It's still early, but it doesn't feel like the Giants are really prepping to be in on any big free agents or trade targets.  It could be a slightly elevated version of their 2018-19 offseason...nobody long-term, just taking educated-guess level fliers to see if they can find pitching or outfield help
Matt K
10:41
White Sox were rumored to like JA Happ too
Mark P
10:41
The Yankees would definitely be eating some money in any Happ trade, unless they tied a good prospect to Happ in the deal
Crystal ball
10:42
What about Blackmon? (Getting moved)
Mark P
10:43
He's already 33, owed a big chunk of money, and has some dicey home/away splits for his career.  He doesn't have a ton of appeal as a trade target, in my view
Mike Trout
10:44
Are the Angels going to sign or trade for someone to help me out?
Mark P
10:45
Dylan Bundy is a start, but more is indeed needing, Mike.

(Incidentally, I've always thought it would be amusing if an actual player or executive signed in under their real name, under the Bill Murray "nobody would ever believe you" logic.)
David
10:46
How about the rays? Any ideas what they will do if anything?
Mark P
10:46
The Rays are one of the more unpredictable teams in the league.  To wit, I wouldn't have thought that Tommy Pham would be dealt, but I guess I should've realized that payroll will always be a priority
Jeff
10:47
Does the Yankees have a legitimate chance of not paying Ellsbury after claiming he breached his contract?
Mark P
10:48
I answered this same question a couple of weeks ago, but it's a very odd move by the Yankees, and one they wouldn't make unless they truly felt they had a chance of coming out on top.  Otherwise, why antagonize the union and Scott Boras over this?
Dan
10:48
Do you anticipate the remaining mid-tier pitchers waiting out the Cole/Stras sweepstakes, so they have potentially more bidders?
Mark P
10:49
Seems likely, unless one of the mid-tier guys gets an unexpectedly big offer right now and decides to leap
Lou Brock
10:49
Do you think the Cardinals will make a trade.
Mark P
10:50
Well, sure.  Whether it'll be a significant trade is anyone's guess, of course, but yes, they will make A trade.

For a more serious answer, the Cards seem like a logical candidate to package together a couple of their younger players for one more established guy.
Jason Chervin
10:51
Looks like the Mets are scraping at the bottom of the barrel free agency wise. Any chance Brodie opts for a big trade splash (i.e. Betts)?
Mark P
10:52
They don't have a ton of trade chips to work with, since Dom Smith or even JD Davis only have so much value, and a lot of the farm has already been moved out in the Cano/Diaz and Stroman deals
Perfect Trade
10:53
Mookie Betts to Cubs, Kris Bryant to Indians, Francisco Lindor to Red Sox. Who says no?
Mark P
10:53
As fun as this trade would be, Cleveland says no.  Getting Bryant for Lindor doesn't change anything for the Tribe
