Any work on when Tim lincecum might have his showcase??
Steve Adams
3:54
I think I saw that it was pushed back a bit, recently. Can't remember if it was in that Jon Heyman report or elsewhere, because all I could focus on in Heyman's tweet was the "throwing at a secret location" portion. Amazing. Tim Lincecum is training at the Bat Cave, apparently.

Anyway -- I'd assume showcase in late Feb., sign in early March perhaps? Depends on how healthy he is at present, and his agents at BHSC haven't been giving much of an indication beyond the scheduling of the showcase.

Does the Texas Ranger extend Adrian Beltre
Steve Adams
3:55
Yeah I think he gets an extension and ends up retiring with that team. Rangers hat on his Cooperstown plaque?
Matt
3:55
Does Jordy Mercer provide some value I'm not seeing? Decent defender, but no bat at all and kind of unathletic especially for a SS?
Steve Adams
3:56
I'm not a big Mercer fan, hence my suggestion yesterday that the Pirates sign Freese (Uribe would work, too), slide Kang to SS and push Mercer into a utility role. He's not a great hitter and he doesn't have a good enough glove to justify the lack of offense.

Would Fowler in that great lineup plus a strong pen be good enough for the Orioles to Over come an underwhelming rotation?
Steve Adams
3:58
I'd love the Fowler add, but their rotation is so weak. They need a breakout from Gausman in such a bad way. I have a hard time picturing them making a run at the AL East this year, even if they add Gallardo and Fowler, but the rest of their offseason indicates that that's clearly their aim.

Likelihood that Dansby Swanson gets a call up this season?
Steve Adams
3:58
Maybe in September but I'd say 2017's much likelier.
Mets Fan
3:59
Are the Mets overly considered with their bullpen (loss of Mejia) that they try to trade for an arm. The remaining free agents aren't great (but Parnell is a nice guy).
Steve Adams
4:01
They still have some nice arms back there with Familia-Reed-Bastardo... I wouldn't mind a minor league deal for another right-handed arm, but I don't think were counting on Mejia too much anyway -- he was going to miss a huge chunk of time for his second suspension, anyhow.

4:01
Any ROY predictions?
Steve Adams
4:01
Hard not to pick Buxton and Seager when both still have rookie eligibility.
Stan
4:01
Don't you think too much stock is being put into one year on the Orioles rotation? Just one year before that Tillman, and Gonzalez looked like great rotation pieces, a return to something in the middle would seem likely. Just as putting too much stock in to 2014 alone Buck Showalter expected a step back in 2015 just not such a big one.
Steve Adams
4:03
I've never been impressed with Tillman or Gonzalez, and I think that's true for a lot of people. They're both guys who have always had really underwhelming peripherals and outperformed them in terms of ERA. While some of that is undoubtedly due to Baltimore's outstanding defense, I never bought that either was a genuine mid-3.00 ERA guy -- especially not Gonzalez.

Is jotcast here to stay?
Steve Adams
4:04
Still determining, but feedback seems positive thus far.

Why don't you use wRC+ in any posts? It's an incredibly simple, and intuitive way of looking at offensive production.
Steve Adams
4:06
We do cite it, quite frequently in fact. It depends on the post, I suppose, and we're conscious of trying to use more traditional metrics and newer stats to speak to all audiences, but it's definitely on MLBTR a fair amount. I just used it yesterday in the Freese post, for example: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/02/finding-a-landing-spot-for-david-freese.html

What kind of contributions do you see from Jorge Soler and Javy Baez this season? Will these guys take the next step in your opinion?
Steve Adams
4:08
I love Jorge Soler. That bat speed is so impressive -- I think he's in for a really nice year if he can stay healthy, which is a huge "if" with Soler, as he's struggled to do so throughout his career. Baez doesn't seem like he'll get enough at-bats, barring injuries, and I'm more wary of his ability to make contact.
XMan.

Are Mookie Betts and Xander Bogaerts the real deal?
Steve Adams
4:08
In a word: Yes.
Mat
4:09
What are your thoughts on Tampa Bay's revamped lineup? Will it be enough to make TB a playoff team?
Steve Adams
4:10
Was a huge fan of their end of the Dickerson trade, and I still have hope that Logan Morrison can have a nice season eventually, especially since he'll be platooned pretty heavily with the Rays, I think. The AL East is going to be pretty tightly contested again, and I do envision the Rays in the mix, especially if Cobb comes back healthy and Smyly's shoulder holds up.

Strat-O-Matic or The Show?
Steve Adams
4:12
I grew up on Strat and played The Show pretty heavily back in the day, especially college. 2006 was a masterpiece! Can I choose both? Also played DYNASTY League baseball (card/dice based) for a couple of years and loved that: http://www.designdepot.com/ My league disbanded though. Sad times.

4:12
What would you do with Harvey, considering he probably won't re-sign.
Steve Adams
4:13
I'd enjoy the hell out of having one of the game's best pitchers for three more years at a cheap rate.
Bert
4:13
With all the parity in the AL, do you see any of the teams as locks for the playoffs?
Steve Adams
4:14
I really don't, which is awesome. There isn't a single AL team you could convince me has zero chance to make the playoffs, whereas that'd be easy with about a third of the teams in the NL.
Matt
4:14
over or under: braves win 80 this year.
Steve Adams
4:14
Under -- and probably by a fair margin.
O's fan
4:15
What would it realistically take to get Shields to the O's that doesn't include Gausman or Schoop. Is he going downhill or was it just an off year
Steve Adams
4:17
It shouldn't take a ton -- I can't envision the Padres being jazzed about the remainder of the contract. But, they were reportedly trying to get a young shortstop for him earlier this winter, so maybe they consider it a good deal still. If they're willing to eat the whole contract, I'd take some pretty second-tier prospects if I'm the Padres (which is good, since that's about all Baltimore has outside of Bundy and Harvey).
Bernie Brewer
4:18
How do I handle the incredible pressure of being the best thing at Miller Park?
Steve Adams
4:18
Lots of beer in Milwaukee, isn't there? And hey, Jonathan Lucroy's pretty great, himself. Just wait until June and then Orlando Arcia might be able to take that title from you.
Brady2gronk

Any chance redsox still make a Sonny Gray trade?
