One rough year doesn't erase his trade value, so the Jays could still get something of note for Biggio if they swapped him this winter.  His days of being the centerpiece of a trade package for a premium player, however, are probably over unless he turns it around in 2022
Mr JL

Is Alex Anthopolous the executive of the year after trading for a new outfield and turning the Braves’ season around?
Mark P
8:55
Flashback to literally a month ago, when Braves fans were sending me questions every week asking if AA was getting fired.

I think Farhan Zaidi has "executive of the year" sewn up, but the Braves did a great job of reloading after Acuna went down
Tanking
8:56
Is there a tanking team right now that you could see not experiencing sustained success as a result? It can't always work
Mark P
8:57
Phillies fans are sadly raising their hands, since the team's "rebuild" didn't generate much in the way of quality young talent.

Would it be possible for the Twins to trade AK or Larnach for the Marlins Meyer?
Mark P
8:58
The Marlins were known to be looking at dealing from their pitching surplus for a young hitter, and Meyer's name was reportedly floated in a trade involving Anaheim's Brandon Marsh.

So Kirilloff/Meyer might be closer to something the Fish would be interested in, I'm not sure Larnach is quite seen as being on the same level of prospect

Since the Mets are done, who will be fired at the end of the season?
Mark P
9:00
I'd be pretty surprised if Rojas is back in the dugout next season.  Frankly, I could see Alderson move into his advisory role and a new PoBO hired to completely overhaul the front office (including replacing Scott with a new GM)

Will food science ever evolve this far?

"Six-minute abs?!  That's insanity!"
Matt
9:02
If A’s move to Vegas, do they change name to Aces and keep “A” symbol?
Mark P
9:03
I really hope they keep the "Athletics" name.  It's carried them through Philadelphia, KC, and Oakland, so it can carry on to Vegas
Royals
9:04
Who plays 2b next season Witt or Lopez? Does Witt push Mondy out of SS?  And, does the Royals sign a veteran leader for the pitching staff next year? If so, who?
Mark P
9:05
Dayton Moore is on record as saying that they aren't counting on Mondesi as an everyday guy, which is quite the admission about such a young player.  So at best, it'll be a timeshare between Witt, Lopez, and Mondesi in the middle infield, which might be a good way of keeping everyone fresh and letting Witt get his feet wet (man, that's a hard sentence to say) at the MLB level.
9:07
As for pitching, I'm not sure KC is quite set to go much beyond the two-year/$20MM range, so it could be another Mike Minor type rather than a true front-of-the-rotation acquisition
Todd
9:07
I just noticed that Bryce Harper leads the majors in OPS.  And absolutely no one is talking about him.  How did that happen?
Mark P
9:08
It's wild that a case can be made that Bryce Harper, of all people, might be the most underrated guy in baseball
Paws
9:08
Who has the brighter future between the Royals and Tigers?
Mark P
9:09
Interesting question.  I'd say Detroit based on pure talent, though we also don't know how this front office operates when it is asked to compete.  At least with KC, Moore and company have built a championship team, so we know they can get there.
RICO NOT CARTY
9:10
DO TIGERS JUST LET CABRERRA PLAY IT OUT FOR NEXT 2 YEARS
Mark P
9:11
They're paying him anyways, so why not?  I can see Cabrera transitioning into a part-timer, certainly
Dalton Wilcox
9:13
The problem with Harper is that he doesn’t have the will or know how to win, and his contract his so huge so ginormous so restrictive that the Phillies will struggle to build the necessary depth
Mark P
9:14
If a guy is leading the league in OPS, he should be the least of a team's concerns.  The Phillies have plenty of payroll space, and they're committing a lot of money to players who have been way less productive than Harper, so "doesn't have the will or knowhow to win" doesn't fly with me as an argument
Baseball Forever

With MLB embracing Field of Dreams with these games, any chance Shoeless Joe Jackson is inducted into the Hall of Fame soon?
Mark P
9:17
I don't think MLB wants to open the Pete Rose can of worms that would inevitably come with lifting the ban on Joe Jackson.
Division realignment
9:17
Is it time to switch things up ?
Mark P
9:18
As a Blue Jays fan, I sure wouldn't mind not seeing the Rays/Red Sox/Yankees 57 times per year.

Some natural realignment might be necessary anyway depending on where (or if) the A's and Rays move.

Does Semien really want to be a 2B? Or does he sign with a team that wants him at SS?
Mark P
9:20
As I noted earlier with Chris Taylor, Semien can make himself more valuable by marketing himself as a shortstop and/or a second baseman, depending on circumstances.

But, if he strictly wants to return to shortstop, he'll obviously find plenty of interest in that department anyway, even with all the other shortstops available.

Why do I keep seeing people say it’s highly unlikely Cleveland extends Ramirez? They already discussed it with him earlier this year. They tried with Lindor, and Ramirez is better to me. Seems highly plausible with how many budget cuts they’ve made that they would reinvest in a player like Ramirez.
Mark P
9:21
Takes two to tango on an extension, and we don't know what number Ramirez is looking for in his next deal (or if he wants to remain in Cleveland long-term).
Mark P
9:22
Why is next years Field of Dreams Game Reds Cubs?
Mark P
9:23
I suspect MLB will have one of the Chicago teams involved every year.  And scheduling a Reds/White Sox game would be hilariously problematic, given the 1919 World Series.  Imagine some poor Sox player made an error in that game.

Mark: Good Evening. On a 1-10 what would you put Derek Jeter’s tenure at?
Mark P
9:26
I'd go 6/10 thus far.  We haven't seen the big spending yet, but the organization has reloaded with good young talent, they do have one playoff appearance (albeit in an expanded postseason) to their credit already, and the bad vibes of the Loria era have largely been washed away.

Still too early to tell, to some extent, but Marlins fans should feel pretty optimistic about their team
Javier
9:27
Does this take the Mets and the Yankees out of the Baez market?
Mark P
9:27
I would imagine so
Paws

Speaking of division realignment, Tigers-Blue Jays MUST be restoked!
Mark P
9:29
Hear hear!  I would love some kind of "Great Lakes Division" of the Jays, Tigers, Twins, Guardians, and White Sox.
