Mark P

I think he'll be pretty comfortably voted in on the first or second ballot.  Three rings, an MVP, a ROY, solid numbers over his career, played for just one team, and his big 2021 will put him over the top.

Rangers have very little in payroll for next year.  How do you see them using it to make upgrades on the team.  A few big time free agents or middle market types?
Mark P
9:45
Probably middle market moreso than the top-of-the-market guys, but the Rangers do have the ability to make a big splash.  It would also depend on one of those major names being convinced that the Rangers are only a year or two away.

Hey Mark, do you think a Nick Senzel and Amir Garret for Danny Jansen trade makes sense for the Jays and Reds?
Mark P
9:46
Not a great fit in my view.  Reds seem pretty set to give Stephenson the everyday job, and the Jays' outfield is already pretty crowded
Frank
9:47
Not sure if this was asked already, but has JD Martinez made a decision on his option yet?
Mark P
9:48
No decision yet

Does Buster Posey’s  retirement cause FA pitchers hesitate signing w/ Giants?
Mark P
9:48
Probably not, or if so, it's a negligible difference
Crime Dog

Is Fred McGriff still eligible to be elected in to the HOF?
Mark P
9:50
He'll have to wait for election via veterans' committee, since his years of eligibility on the ballot are up.  And, for the record, I hope he gets in, McGriff was a great player
NOT The Vegas A's
9:50
Did the last CBA deadline effect that winter's trades and FA significantly?
Mark P
9:51
Not really.  There was surprisingly little drama about the last CBA, or much doubt that a deal would get done.

Where do you stand on Minoso going to HOF?
Mark P
9:51
Should've been in years ago

With their  high payroll, do the Padres realistically have the budget to sign top free agents or do they need to go the trade market route to get upgrades at starting pitching and position players?
Mark P
9:53
They'll probably explore both avenues, and remember, the luxury tax system might look quite different once the CBA is settled.
9:54
So the Padres crossing the tax line in 2021 might not end up being much of an issue (if it's even an issue now)

Yankee fans want to know: Luke Voit, Clint Frazier, two non prospects, and a box of Tim Horton donuts to the Angels.  For Shohei and Mike Trout.  Who says no first?
Mark P
9:55
Hmm, are they regulation-sized doughnuts or Timbits?
Its me

Never.  I'm not a madman.

What kind of return might interest Arizona if they were to move Marte with Bumgarner? Obviously the salary relief would be a huge factor, and they have a recent history of taking good, but not elite, prospects/young players in returns. But could they still nab a couple of, say, top-50 prospects without eating salary?
Mark P
9:56
If the D'Backs did decide to move Marte, they'd surely want to maximize the return for on-field talent, rather than lessen that return to just get some salary off the books.
9:57
If it came to it, they could try to unload Bumgarner in another trade, or maybe attach a prospect to him rather than a top-tier trade piece like Marte
QO

Why don’t teams give out more qualifying offers to players so they can get more draft picks?
Mark P
9:57
Because a team always has to be wary that a player might accept, and there are only so many players a club is willing to pay $18.4MM to (even for a one-year deal)
Buck O’Neil deserves to be in the HOF
9:58
I just read 2 books of Buck O’Neil. He lived the happiest life of anyone I’ve known or read about. He did so much for the African-American players of his era. Any chance he ever gets voted into the HOF?
Mark P
9:59
O'Neil is actually on a veterans committee ballot this year, so there is a chance voters can correct their earlier mistake and finally induct him into the Hall

Talk of A’s fire sale over over blown? Manaea yes, but Andrus and Piscotty off books next year, and Bassist & Chapman need to rebuild value.
Mark P
10:01
Bassitt's value is already plenty high.  And while the A's haven't gone totally scorched earth with rebuilds in the Beane era, we don't know exactly how dire their payroll situation might be at the moment, especially considering factors like the pandemic, limited attendance and a potential move out of Oakland
10:02
So we can't rule out the possibility that the A's are going to make a drastic payroll cut.  Melvin's departure seems like a bad omen.

Where does Richard Rodriguez end up?
Mark P
10:04
He isn't a free agent, Braves have two more years of control
Cedric Mullins
10:05
I was just traded to Miami. What do you think the package looked like?
Mark P
10:05
Yikes, that just made me double-check the Twitter feed.  (This is just speculative, to be clear.)
10:06
Mullins would cost the Marlins two of Meyer/Cabrera/Sixto, in my view.  And more.
Jonas
10:07
I don't remember seeing a team waive a player of the caliber of Miley just to avoid a million dollar buyout. Has it happened before?
Mark P
10:07
Just last year, when Cleveland let Brad Hand go for nothing
