Friedman = Dodgers president of baseball operations

The Dodgers got hit with a lot of injuries and were lacking their usual depth.  Losing Muncy so late in the season was a big blow, and hurting Scherzer by having him work as a reliever was a real unforced error on the Dodgers' part.

Some news on the QO front.....Eduardo Rodriguez rejected the offer from Boston, which isn't a big surprise

Who is more likely to win the AL Central next year?  Cleveland or Detroit?

As an addendum--the Cards could send Dejong or Sosa for Manea instead of AAA players. Dejong is good  power and very affordable.
Mark P
9:48
This is a plausible scenario, with Sosa being the likelier choice if the A's are as cash-strapped as they seem.

Would Harper have won MVP if Phillies made the playoffs?
Mark P

He might win anyway

What’s more likely to happen… ChiSox sign Eduardo Escobar to play 2B, or find a suitor for Kimbrel that will return a suitable every day 2B?
Mark P
9:50
Escobar seems like a good candidate for the Sox.  They were reportedly targeting him at the deadline before he got injured.
Spiders
9:50
Much cooler name than Guardians?
Mark P
9:51
I don't mind Guardians but "Spiders" was my top choice.  Come on, a logo with a smiling cartoon spider in a ballcap and gloves on all eight arms?  That's a license to print money!

Matt Olson for Hader?
Mark P
9:53
That doesn't solve Oakland's payroll crunch, since I think Hader is projected for even more in arbitration than Olson.  Also, it'd take a lot more than just Hader for the Brewers to land Olson, since a star 1B is more valuable than a star closer

What value would we really add to the Colorado Rockies? I know we are utility player caliber, and they're places on that roster - but do we REALLY add enough to their current core that we'd comepete in the NL West?
Mark P
9:55
They'd make the team better, undoubtedly, but the Rockies are far from being one or two players away from contention.  However, the organization seems to constantly think that they're perpetually on the verge of winning.

Think there will be some movement in terms of trades this week as teams protect their Rule 5 eligible guys?
Mark P
9:56
We're already seeing that with the Rays alone, making two trades in as many days to free up 40-man spots
Lauren Shehadi
9:56
What kind of acquisitions do you see the Nationals making this year?
Mark P
9:57
Several one-year contracts like last winter, and one longer-term "we're getting ready to contend shortly" acquisition

Why isn't Tommy John in the HOF ? 288 wins, 164 of them after the surgery, plus 6 playoff victories. Three 20 win seasons
Mark P
9:58
I feel like both John and Frank Jobe (the surgeon who came up with TJ surgery) should both be in the Hall

If you are one of the big 5 Shortstops do you want to sign early or late? Late there will be less spots but possibly better CBA clarity.
Mark P
10:01
It's an interesting question, and it is probably up to the individual.
David Stearns
10:02
I’m more likely to trade Hader or one of my big 3 starters?
Mark P
10:02
Hader, since as good as he is, a top-flight reliever is more easily replaceable than a top-flight starter
Shadow GM
10:03
Do you think the BOS might have an interest in Jeff McNeil, Dominic Smith from NYM? Possibly for Garret Whitlock and Jarren Duran?
Mark P
10:03
The Sox might have interest in those two, but absolutely not for Duran or Whitlock.
Scott Boras
10:04
Don’t agents like me, who represent several marquee players, some of who play the same position and who may be chasing the same opportunities (and dollars), have inherent and irresolvable  conflicts of interest?
Mark P
10:06
It does seem pretty difficult to manage on paper, though Boras has been able to do it for years
Robbie Baseball

Javier Baez to Toronto to play 2B (plus trade for Matt Chapman) - would that be enough to replace Marcus Semien’s production?
Mark P
10:06
It would do wonders for the Jays defense, if nothing else. In terms of pure numbers, Chapman's bat is a concern and Baez isn't exactly consistent at the plate

Is there a limit of how many on the hof golden era committee can get into the hall?
Mark P
10:09
There probably is a mathematical ceiling, depending on number of ballot spots and number of players.  Of the current names on this year's list, Minoso is long overdue, and I'd vote for Dick Allen too
The cronezone
10:10
What is attaching Jake cronenworth to an Eric Hosmer trade help the Padres unload his contract?
Mark P
10:10
That would definitely make a deal possible, but Cronenworth seems like one of the last guys the Padres would/should trade

DeJong to HOU?
Mark P
10:12
DeJong would be a good fit, as a bridge to Pena and as a SS replacement that wouldn't break the bank. If the Astros got DeJong, they could then spend more on pitching or maybe a CF like Marte

How important is team chemistry over spending big money or making big trades ?
Mark P
10:15
Obviously chemistry is important, but it also helps team morale when they see that a front office is actively making moves to improve the club.
