Give me reasonable trade returns for the Angels, Astros, and/or Blue Jays for the Cubs' Contreras (any chance for Murphy, Peña, or Kirk?)
Mark P
7:59
All those teams are already set at catcher and aren't fits for Contreras.

Is it my imagination or do the Yankees have a weird logjam in their infield? Three guys (Torres, LeMahieu, Urshela) for two spots (2B, 3B)...someone has to go, right? We're not paying DJLM $90MM to be a utility infielder...right? Right??
Mark P
8:03
DJ can also play first base, and more DH at-bats will be available if Stanton is able to play more outfield.

Basically, the Yankees are covering themselves in case Torres or Urshela can't get on track at the plate next year.  If it's a situation where Urshela replaces Wade/Odor as the utility infield guy, that's a big raise of your talent floor.

I cannot imagine how hard it would be to be a fan of a team like the A's. Is there a limit to how much a team HAS TO spend? I mean there always such talk on Luxury Taxes and such, but almost NO chatter on how little an owner spends?
Mark P
8:05
There has been plenty of criticism directed towards A's ownership over the years, not that they seem to care one way or the other.

It might also not help that the "Moneyball" mystique has become characterized as a noble pursuit, and not enough people ask why the A's are "forced" to spend so little

I feel like I am the only one who feels the Reds are NOT tearing everything down. Bernhardt & Miley were extremely expendable for their price tags. They have a solid young catcher making the minimum & Hunter Greene & other arms are coming. What are the chances the Reds are still in it but truly just "aligning" their payroll? For what it's worth, I'm actually a Cardinal fan...
Mark P
8:07
If they're aligning their payroll for fourth place, then sure.

But letting go of Barnhart was at least defensible because Stephenson is there.  Letting Miley go for nothing is hard to fathom, since now that's another rotation hole the Reds have to roll the dice on with younger pitchers

Mark please answer one of my questions I have bet with a friend?
Mark P

Does Corey Kluber have more or less earning power than he did a year ago?  He actually pitched well when healthy.
Mark P
8:09
Interesting question.  Despite his good numbers, another year with a significant injury must certainly make Kluber too unreliable in the eyes of some teams
Pete Wheeler

If you had a 10 team no trade clause what 10 teams are on your list?
Mark P
8:10
Ha, I feel my answers already make some fanbases think I don't like their teams.  I'd better not add fuel to the fire by singling out ten places I'd rather not live (or hypothetically play baseball)

How many inn does Thor pitch this year and will he be on inn watch?
Mark P
8:12
Thor said that some kind of limit will be in place, but the number isn't yet known.  The Angels have a six-man staff anyway, which will inherently help limit how much action Syndergaard sees

Swooping in and trading for Tucker Barnhart a stroke of genius for Al Alvila?
Mark P
8:13
It was a good move for a catcher-needy team.  The Tigers checked off a big item on their to-do list early

Is there any chance a new CBA includes some of the crazy things like WAR being used for arbitration or 29 1/2 for free agency? (Hate both). Or are we looking at the same system basically "tweaked?'
Mark P
8:13
I don't think either of those ideas will fly whatsoever with the MLBPA

They tried to trade Miley, Mark. Nobody wanted to trade anything for him.
Mark P
8:15
They weren't under a time crunch, Miley's option deadline notwithstanding.  Teams didn't want to make a move since they knew the Reds were desperate.  If Cincy picks up Miley's $10MM option, they then have the entire winter to shop him, and quite possibly find a taker to take that whole contract anyway (or Miley can be part of a larger trade package)

Will A's stadium in Vegas have a dome?
Mark P
8:18
Almost certainly.  Playing outdoors in Vegas doesn't seem feasible.

8:19
we are hearing Marte is being pursued by Astros but what does that do to Myers when he is back? You have Brantley, Tucker in LF & RF, with Yordan at DH. Does that make him a trade chip for more SP?
Mark P
8:19
McCormick, Siri, and Meyers could all be kept around for depth.  Brantley is only under contract through 2022, so the Astros might have another OF hole to address soon
Pete Wheeler
8:19
Who wins the bet now? Angels 1961 asked for you to answer one of his questions to win the bet and youve selected 2 now... you might have just blown it for him
Mark P
8:20
As others have noted in the queue, Angels1961's first entry wasn't technically a "question."  So he wins the bet regardless!

Do the Brewers regret the Yelich extension?  Negotiated at the peak of his value, hasn’t been an MVP-type player in two years now
Mark P
8:21
Too early to tell yet, but the Brewers have to have some worries over Yelich's performance in 2020-21

Cedric Mullins for Edward Cabrera too much to give up for the Marlins right?
Mark P
8:23
In a straight-up trade?  The Marlins happily make that swap, but the O's would want notably more for Mullins
8:24
Cabrera could be the centerpiece of a Mullins trade package, however

Does Bryce Harper finish his career as a Philly?

I'd lean towards yes.

any chance they look at Conforto as the left-handed bat they need. Would also have interest in Wade
Mark P
8:27
Toronto's outfield is already crowded, so someone else would have to be moved to make room for Conforto.

Any chance the Mariners try for a Seagers brother double? If Corey signs to play 2B then Kyle signed to 2- yr. discount with 3rd year club option?
