Will tigers trade one of their young arms for big bat?
Mark P
6:11
Depends on the offer, but like I said about Detroit's lack of a payroll, it seems like signing a big hitter would make more sense than dealing a major pitching asset

Do you like the idea of Alex Rodriguez having a version on the Manningcast ?
Mark P
6:13
The "Manningcast" worked because Peyton and Eli are both very famous, and because they have goofy built-in chemistry.  I'll be kind of stunned if A-Rod and Michael Kay have a similar chemistry, and it's also a lot harder to keep that patter going

6:13
Any chance that a team trading for a Reds starter would take on Moustakas’ contract to lessen the prospect capital going back to Cincy? Seems like a bad deal for the Reds but ownership seems to be desperate to shed payroll
Mark P
6:14
The Reds aren't going to move Castillo or Mahle just to shed money, that would be a real waste of a strong starting pitcher (and a trade asset).  Packaging Gray with the Moose might be more of a possibility since it seems like Gray has less trade value than the other two, and Cincy is reportedly more open to moving Gray than either Castillo/Mahle

Top 3 destinations at this point for Carlos Correa?
Mark P
6:17
Phillies, Tigers, Cubs

This is also purely speculation on my part, but I wonder if the Dodgers would consider signing Correa and then flipping Trea Turner to one of the teams (i.e. the Yankees) looking for just a short-term shortstop.  Given the hard feelings Dodger fans have towards Correa, this may be a longshot

Will we ever see another player-manager or perhaps a player-coach role for an aging player? CWS was reportedly close to hiring Konerko in that role towards the end of his career.
Mark P
6:18
I think there's enough involved in day-to-day managerial or coaching duties that expecting a guy to also prepare to play at the same time is a lot to ask
6:19
That said, I'm sure there are plenty of cases where some veterans are de facto coaches on a team behind the scenes, even if standard mentorship type of stuff with younger players
Pad Squad
6:20
Why would the Pads want to move their starting RFer in Myers?  I hear this scenario bandied about but it doesn't make much sense when you look at the team's composition (they still need a LFer, too)...
Mark P
6:20
In clearing luxury tax and payroll space, that allows the Padres to reallocate that money towards a more productive outfielder
Or outfielders, since as you noted, they'd then have two spots to fill

Do you think Adley Rutschman will break camp with the O's? If not, when do you think he will be up?
Mark P
6:21
Barring any change to the service time rules, I'd guess Adley will be up a few weeks into April, so the O's can control him for a seventh year.

Or, they could try to sign him to an extension.  Hmm, I wonder if anyone at MLBTR recently wrote about that idea....

Does Rolen make the HOF this year or next?
Mark P
6:23
As per Ryan Thibodaux's tracker, Rolen has picked up some extra votes from last year, but he's still under the 75% threshold in the early going.

It might not be until 2024 that he finally gets over the line, but I do think Rolen is eventually elected

At $28 million, I consider Justin Upton unreadable at present. but if he’s healthy and in a hot streak (like when he moved to lead off) what could we get for him at the deadline. A power hitter like him could be attractive for a short rental playoff aspiring team.
Mark P
6:25
If Upton is playing well at the deadline, the Angels might hang onto him, assuming LAA are themselves still in the race
Perry M.
6:26
So when do I stop the nonsense and sign Rodon and Joe Kelly. Possibly take a 3 yr risk on Trevor Story
Mark P
6:28
(Perry Minasian = Angels GM)

I think the Angels would be very pleased to get Story for three years, but I don't see him taking that kind of shorter-term deal.  If a short-term deal at all, it would be either a one-year Semien-esque contract, or there would have to be player opt-out clauses.

Rodon and/or Kelly would certainly help the Angels' pitching, but for an organization that is wary about giving any pitcher long-term money, Rodon's injury concerns don't seem like a fit in Anaheim

6:29
With what appears to be short off-season and hurried spring training coming, could we see a lot of 1 year deals for remaining top fa's or do you think there will be a lot of them holding out?
Mark P
6:30
The top free agents will still get big contracts, but there could be quite a few guys outside that top tier who are squeezed into lesser contracts than expected.  This itself might be a concern for the MLBPA in labor talks
Andy
6:30
i know you get a lot of Adell trade offers on here but I’ve always though he made sense playing for Colorado and the Angels could use Marquez back in a much bigger deal. Thoughts?
Mark P
6:31
Marquez is the kind of pitcher the Angels would want if they did decide to move Adell.  Colorado, however, has been quite adamant that Marquez is untouchable.
Oil Can Lloyd
6:32
can u see the Jays make Ryu available? Since they have long term starters and need good infielders.
Mark P
6:32
If anything, the Jays could use another starter, so I doubt Ryu is a trade candidate
Duffy
6:34
The Orioles are stuck in a really tough rebuild. Do you see them coming out of it soon and being competitive (like how the Astros were terrible for a few years, and then got really good), or more like one of those teams that are just terrible for years and years (like the Royals of the 90s and 00s)?
Mark P
6:34
The additional problem facing the Orioles is that they're in the AL East.  So even if the O's do put the pieces together and improve, they'll still be facing off against four teams that are decidedly better now and are better positioned to be competitive for the next decade.
Best....
6:37
Bounceback candidates for this year.  I'm going with Aaron Nola.  You?
Mark P
6:37
Nola is a very good choice.  He was one of the less-lucky pitchers in all of baseball last year, and pitched much better than his ERA would indicate
Snowman
6:38
De Jong a trade fit for Minnesota?
Mark P
6:39
He'd make a lot of sense, for sure.  Twins wouldn't necessarily have to give up a lot to get him, nor would STL necessarily ask for a lot.

The Cardinals would then be going with Sosa/Edman/Gorman for the middle infield, however, and while there's talent in that group, they might prefer to add another MI before deciding on moving DeJong

We hear a lot about economic issues with the CBA, but are some rule changes on the table to speed play?
Mark P
6:40
Apparently all talks about rule changes (i.e. a pitch clock or something) are being sidelined until the CBA is worked out.  This makes some sense, so anything big on the rules front might be saved until next winter

6:42
Does Cade Cavalli pitch in the majors this year ?
Mark P
6:43
Barring injury or more struggles at Triple-A, yes
Chris
6:44
Should the Giants go with Thairo Estrada as the right hand bat?
Mark P
6:45
Estrada hit well last year in part-time action, but counting on him for a larger role would seem quite risky.  If I'm the Giants, I get a more proven bat
