Mark, Yay or nay for Brady
Mark P
5:58
I'm pretty sure he'll be playing next season, just not with the Buccaneers
DM KC GM

Jeff Passan has an interesting theory that seems logical about minor league deals being negotiated by the same agents who have big leaguers and that there is no way GM and agents haven't at least spoken in broad terms about player demands. Similarly GMs have been able to communicate so seems reasonable thwy have talked trade theories amongst each other. With that in mind do we expect a nba type buffet of movement once rhe CBA is agreed to
Mark P
5:59
I have no doubt that some backchannel talks are taking place, though the league will take a very firm hand if some major trade or signing is announced five minutes after the freeze is lifted, or something

Minor league spring training...are we excited about it since there's no MLB happening?
Mark P
6:03
I won't lie, I've been so starved for baseball content that I've been reading a ton of these "this random Double-A player is in great shape and looking forward to a big season" pieces.  And loving every one!

I am in favor of service time manipulation. I want to keep Greene and Torkelson a reasonably priced Tiger. Anybody else feel this way for their favorite tesm?
Mark P
6:04
If by "reasonably priced" do you mean "vastly underpaid"?

6:06
What do you think of mlbs timing on lockout coming during a pandemic?
Mark P
6:07
There has been talk for years (almost since the last CBA was signed) that a lockout was inevitable this winter.  The pandemic wasn't going to change that.
Arm Fatigue
6:07
Do you see the potential of a 6 man rotation being somewhat normal in order to provide starter's more rest and mitigate the potential for injuries?
Mark P
6:08
This season, yeah.  Teams are still wary of how their pitchers are faring after 2020 and 2021, plus this abbreviated Spring Training won't help matters.
Brent
6:09
Is Yoenis Cespedes retired?
Mark P
6:10
No official announcement or anything, but he didn't play anywhere last season despite multiple showcases for teams.
Brent
6:11
Assuming we start the season on time, is Adley the early favorite for ROY?
Mark P
6:12
He's my favorite pick, certainly
Greg Sestero
6:12
What would it take for the angels to get Kim? Would SD pay some of the remaining salary?
Mark P
6:14
Having to eat some of Kim's contract just a year after signing him would be a bad look for San Diego, but Kim's mediocre season did nothing for his value.  Kim is kind of a tough player to gauge in trade talks for this very reason

6:16
Do you think Correa might consider an shorter offer with an inflated AAV and an opt out after a couple of seasons?
Mark P
6:17
If Correa does take any kind of a shorter contract, my guess is it would be one of those Scott Boras "swellopt" deals, that is basically a two-tier opt-out system.

I think the Yankees are a microcosm of the lockout. While the team's revenues have continued to climb, the percentage of that revenue that has been invested back into the team has plummeted. They are dead last in MLB in that category. Do you think Hal ever sells the team to an owner who actually cares about winning baseball games?
Mark P
6:21
It's not like the Yankees haven't a) still been spending a lot, or b) still been winning a lot over the last few years.  It's just that they haven't won a pennant, or having their usual Yankees-esque splurges.

If anything, the issue is that they haven't been spending wisely.  The Hicks/Severino extensions haven't worked out.  Picking up Britton's options backfired.  LeMahieu immediately having a down year after signing a new contract has to be a big concern.
Carlos Santana (the first baseman)

Where am I on opening day?
Mark P
6:22
Likely still on the KC roster

Do you think the rumors of Matt Olsen being traded to the Guardians will transpire? What would Cleveland have to giveup?
Mark P
6:24
MLBTR's Darragh McDonald explored this very concept last week....

6:25
Would my team have been better signing Robbie Ray and Gausman than semein or seagor?
Mark P
6:26
The Rangers have been aggressive enough that they can still add some good starting pitching on top of the two big infielders.  Money seems to be no object for them this winter, so there's no real "either/or" considerations, per se
Mike ‘Surplus’ Lund
6:26
Do the mariners have a chance given they overperformed like fiends in 2021?
Mark P
6:27
Oh, they certainly have a chance.  Just because 95 wins is a tall order doesn't mean they can't or won't be very competitive.  Keep in mind, the M's were (if anything) a year early in returning to winning baseball.
Blackmon
6:29
What type of prospect would I garner in a trade?
Mark P
6:30
Nobody major, but maybe a decent prospect if the Rockies ate most/all of his contract.  But, I don't see such a deal coming together either on the Rockies' side or on another team's side.
Nationals fan
6:31
With Soto not agreeing to an extension and the Nats needing lineup protection for him they need to get another big bat or two for the lineup.   Trevor Story solves the problem at short and shows they are serious about a reload and not a rebuild.
Mark P
6:32
It would, though I wonder if the Nats are ready to take that big plunge for this season or if they'll wait until next year.  It wouldn't be the most efficient use of a prime Soto season to just punt on 2022, but it could be that the Nationals see this as the reshuffling year and then they'll reload for 2023
6:33
Some pretty interesting shortstops available in next year's market, too.

Do you see Buxton as a trade chip or a face of the Twins?
Mark P
6:33
With the extension now in place, both sides seem committed to one another
Ro
6:35
What would you rather watch: dunk contest or pro bowl?
Mark P
6:36
Nothing is less interesting to me than the Pro Bowl, so I'll take even a mediocre dunk contest like last night's event

Would TB consider packaging KK and Glasnow to save around $20 million and still get good prospects back, which probably wouldn’t happen trading KK by himself?
