Bart is hard to gauge, since his hard-contact numbers are off the charts and he's walking a bunch, but also striking out a ton.  I'd also put him into the "give it time" category.

Does Tarik Skubal look like the best young pitcher in the AL?
Mark P
9:22
Not a stretch to say that he's by far the highlight of Detroit's season
Arenado
9:24
I'm having quite the season. Any chance I opt out after the year and test free agency?
Mark P
9:26
Arenado is owed $129MM through 2023-26, so that's a $32.35MM average annual value.  He'll be 32 next April, and if he's coming off an MVP-level year, I could see another team giving him five years and more money.

Probably the likeliest option, however, is that the Cardinals sign him to an extension and tack on at least one more year to his current deal to keep him from opting out.

Who you got for the cup this yr?
Mark P

Avalanche over Hurricanes was my preseason pick, and it's still looking solid

2 years ago, the Pirates asked for Alejandro Kirk as part of a Joe Musgrove trade.  2 years later, does Kirk have too much service time to be of interest to them anymore?
Mark P
9:30
Kirk is controlled through 2026, so I'd imagine the Pirates would still have interest in a deal.  Kirk's struggles at the plate this season probably wouldn't dampen his trade stock all that much.

It's worth noting that the Jays and Pirates haven't actually swung a trade since Ben Cherington took over the front office.  People seemed to expect plenty of deals between the two teams due to Cherington's Toronto ties, but that hasn't yet been the case.  Doesn't mean it couldn't still happen.

Where do you see Adell in the Angels outfield? Ward has RF locked down and Marsh has LF
Mark P
9:33
There are worse options than just keeping Adell as a glorified fourth outfielder in the event of an injury (or if Ward comes back to earth, or if Marsh struggles), since depth isn't a bad thing.  It'll be difficult, however, since Adell is only helped at this point by playing every day, not every few days or in sparing fashion

Jake Meyers is close-ish to returning but Pedro Leon is taking in AAA…what route do the Astros go deeper into this season at centerfield?
Mark P
9:34
I kind of think Houston might stand pat.  They were fine going into the playoffs last year with Meyers and Chas, to the point that they were even comfortable dealing Straw at the deadline.  And now Leon is seemingly ready to provide even more depth

9:35
Is Tanner Rainey or David Bednar more of a trade candidate this year?
Mark P
9:36
The Nats are probably likelier to move Rainey than the Pirates are to move Bednar, since Rainey has a year less control and is older.
Rockies
9:37
If and when the Rockies fall out of contention, do they have anybody to trade at the deadline? Maybe Daniel Bard?
Mark P
9:37
Iglesias, Colome, Estevez, and Kuhl are all pending free agents.  Then again, after last year's quiet deadline, it's hard to predict exactly what the Rockies will do in terms of moving obvious trade candidates

9:38
Mark, does MLB have both 10 and 15 day IL stints now? I've been seeing both lengths reported lately.
Mark P
9:39
Only pitchers or two-way players can be placed on the 15-day IL, whereas position players can be placed on the 10-day IL.  (Both pitchers and position players can go on the 60-day)
Buxton
9:40
Should I steal more?
Mark P
9:41
Given the higher risk of injury that comes from stealing bases, I'd say no.  Plenty of ways for Buxton's speed to help beyond just stealing bases, but he can't help the team on the IL.
Padres
9:42
You suggested moving Cronenworth to the OF? Move an All-Star 2B to the OF rather than our 5th infielder in Kim? Why would that even cross your mind?
Mark P
9:42
Kim has never played as an outfielder either in the majors or in South Korea, whereas Cronenworth has at least a couple of games as an outfielder, and he's gotten reps on the grass during Spring Training

Does Farhan ever deliver an everyday playing super star like
Mark P
9:45
I can understand why Giants fans might feel this way.....but if the front office can consistently add a couple of low-cost guys who combine to form the production of a good regular player, isn't that just as good?
9:46
Since landing everyday superstar players isn't exactly easy

Judge and Stanton make a serious run at Mantle/Maris 115 home runs in 1961?
Mark P
9:48
They might break that record by the All-Star break, if this keeps up.

I look forward to Billy Crystal's 116* film, coming to HBO in 2025

Montas or bogaerts to the Angels?
Mark P
9:50
Hmm, I somehow omitted Bogaerts earlier than talking about possible middle infield trade candidates for the Angels, even though I listed another Sox player in Enrique Hernandez.

Anyways, sure, Bogaerts would certainly fit in Anaheim.
Mozeilok wow i spelled that so wrong
9:52
Do the Cards have a chance at Montas? Should they trade Gorman?
Mark P
9:53
I don't see the Cards moving Gorman for a year-plus of Montas.  But they might be able to put together another trade package that gets Oakland's attention.

reminder for people freaking out about prospects slow starts. Jazz Chisholm hit .204 in his first 89 games at AA and now looks like a star. Player development isn’t linear
Mark P
9:54
For every star prospect who immediately hits it big in the majors, there are what 10 who initially struggle?

Even if the red Sox are far out of it will ownership ok a massive trade off of players?
