Guardians Top Fan

Are the guardians still buyers at the deadline being 2 back of the division or what should their plans be?
Mark P
10:08
They will very likely be buyers, to some extent
Jed Hoyer
10:09
Does Peter Bendix hang up on me if I call and offer him Willson Contreras for Taj Bradley
Mark P
10:10
The Rays aren't moving Bradley for two months of Contreras

Texas should still be in buy mode, but more for 23? So no rentals. Do we move Calhoun? Trade Perez or keep?
Mark P
10:12
Calhoun yes, Perez probably.  As good as Perez has been this season, a sell-high trade might be a wise move on the Rangers' part, just because Perez is having such an outlier year

10:12
Why isn't Jonah Heim an all-star
Mark P
10:13
Again, he could end up on the team anyway due to injury replacements.  You'd think the AL team would have a third catcher beyond Kirk and Trivino anyway

10:14
will there be another ohtani in the next five years
Mark P
10:15
No, because Ohtani is such a historical unicorn of a player.  Do I think he might inspire more two-way experiments down the road?  Yes, but not in the next five years.  We're seeing some all-time magical stuff with Ohtani, that isn't easy to replicate.

Should the M's upgrade at second or CF or keep relying on their in house depth to win? They've done pretty well with Murphy, France, Haniger and Winker out. Once Mitch, Kyle, and Jesse are back they seem a lot more solid. If not then Haggerty and Moore are still available. If 2nd base is the weak spot who is on the block better than Frazier and Toro?
Mark P
10:17
Drury would seem like a great fit.  Maybe Merrifield except he isn't having a good year.
Snub

Who are you biggest snubs?
Mark P
10:17
Amy Adams should've been nominated for Best Actress for "Arrival."

When will we see the first big chip fall? (Benintindi, Contreras, Bell, etc)
Mark P
10:19
Probably not long after the All-Star Game
Rod
10:20
Will the A’s move Paul Blackburn sooner than later? AllStar and the best road ERA in the league. What would the return look like?
Mark P
10:21
That would be an interesting sell-high move, but with Blackburn being controlled through 2025, I don't see the A's moving him for anything less than a big offer.
Who's on First
10:21
Is McGee getting claimed, traded, or released? Thanks Mark.
Mark P
10:22
Probably released, and then another team will sign him afterwards (with the Giants thus being on the hook for most of the remaining salary)
Ken C.
10:23
Do the Blue Jay make a trade for pitching help? If so, their obvious strength is at catcher. Which one the three -- Kirk, Morreno or Jansen -- would be most likely to be dealt?
Mark P
10:24
Jansen, but I don't think the Jays would make a move at catcher just yet.  Moreno isn't quite ready for the bigs, it seems, so it might be best if he is optioned back to Triple-A when Jansen is healthy.

When might learn the identities of bidders for the Nationals?
Angels
10:27
Haha a utility player for trout and Ohtani. You’re a joke
Mark P
10:27
You don't understand.  It's ANTHONY VOLPE.  The Angels might have add Ward to the trade package just to get the Yankees to pay attention.

What jersey will I be wearing this time next month?
Mark P
10:28
Still Rockies, probably
Brody
10:29
Do the Yankees need to go after a pitcher like another starter?
Mark P
10:29
I say yes, since a lot of their starters have workload considerations, or the Yankees might not think their starting five can keep it up all year long.  It is pretty incredible that the five pitchers have been injury-free, so the shoe might have to eventually drop.
10:30
Then again, German is also on the verge of a return from the IL, so there's some rotation depth right there
Rays Trade Deadline
10:31
Got to be getting close to panic time right? Especially if Wander is out for 6-8 weeks
Mark P
10:33
No time to panic at all.  While the Mariners are coming on like a freight train, the Jays are struggling badly.

Tampa Bay is probably the team I'm most confident in winning a wild card slot.

I know the cardinals won today. But they are just not a good team. Why is that? Inconsistent pitching?  Inconsistent hitting?
Mark P
10:35
They're inconsistent, but still ultimately a good team.  Though they're been pretty mediocre since the start of June, the NL Central is weak enough that the Cardinals still have a great shot at the division title.  Plus like I said before, the Cards seem to traditionally save their best play for the second half.

With Mccann seemingly out for weeks and their reluctance to bring up Alvarez (understandable given a veteran pitching staff) do you see the Mets acquiring a catcher or do they stick with Nido and add offense elsewhere?
Mark P
10:37
A catcher definitely seems like a possibility for the Mets.  Contreras seems like the kind of big-scale move that has become routine for the Mets, and since he's a rental, he wouldn't block Alvarez as the eventual catcher of the future

Sunflower seeds or peanuts?
Mark P
10:38
Not a big fan of either, really.  Peanuts if I had to choose.

Why do analysts always think that major market teams' prospects are worth more than the prospects from the teams that they want?
