Kinda bad. Look what just happened with Melvin's deal.
Matt
3:26
Any chance the Yankees get a decent prospect for Ivan nova?
Jeffrey Todd
3:27
Define "decent." They won't get much.

Do you think the Nats are being TOO frugal with their prospects?
Jeffrey Todd
3:28
No. These guys are at/near the majors, excepting Robles. They can and will contribute to the team right now and in the immediate future. That also increases their appeal to other clubs, so at least the Nats should wait for a really good arrangement to come their way. Can still deal Fedde, too -- he's not nothing.

I'm starting to think the O's don't make a deal. Thoughts?
Jeffrey Todd
3:29
I don't see why they wouldn't - last I checked they are in first place and Duquette always does something.

Thoughts on us moving Tomas?
Jeffrey Todd
3:29
You paying his contract?
Jared
3:29
What do you think the price difference is between Sale and Archer?
Jeffrey Todd
3:30
Not much daylight. Some teams would prefer one to the other, and vice versa. Sale obviously is pitching better right now, so he's more a classic deadline target, but Archer's contract is better.

Should Cardinals put Reyes in bullpen for the stretch?
Jeffrey Todd
3:30
If they should, they will.
Matt Shoemaker
3:31
Can't like 6 teams that have the pieces to get me use me in their rotation? What's the holdup?
Jeffrey Todd
3:32
Of course, but why are the Halos dealing controllable pitching? They have a tough road ahead, but this is a team with Mike Trout. Can't go parting with reasonably-priced, talented arms.
Bob
3:32
the idea of trading the NL RBI leader for nothing is a joke
Jeffrey Todd
3:32
I have no idea who you are referring to.
Kemp?
Shrug. RBIs.

3:33
Do the Rockies flip from sellers to buyers? Would they look for bullpen help?
Jeffrey Todd
3:33
If anybody would, it'd probably be the Rox, but I can't fathom how they'll keep up with SFG and LAD - both of whom can and will add - let alone the other wild card contenders.

Why is it always a good idea to expand playoffs? As I understand things, the point of a 1-game wildcard is that if you want a series, you can darn-well win your division for it. Maybe this is a rant but it seems to me that nobody ever adequately contextualizes the downside of more and more playoffs, and the next thing you know we're the NHL, trying to figure out why nobody gives a hoot.
Jeffrey Todd
3:34
Wasn't saying there should be more teams -- just saying a 1-game series is kind of a joke in terms of deciding who should move forward. But hey, the playoffs are a whole different animal than the regular season regardless.
Ruben
3:34
Why do teams always wait for the last min to trade.
Jeffrey Todd
3:35
Information. When you are right up at the deadline, you know not only your exact record, but also exactly what it'll cost to get any given player.
Angry nationals fan
3:35
Will the nationals do anything instead of just twiddling there fingers?
Jeffrey Todd
3:35
Yes, they will.
Travis
3:35
A package around Christian Arroyo enough to get Jay Bruce? Should Giants do it if it is?
Jeffrey Todd
3:35
I think that's too much.
Will
3:36
The Pirates have two of the better (this season) bats who are free agents at the end of the season (Freese/Joyce). Are the prospects they could get for either worth their value the rest of the season?
Jeffrey Todd
3:36
Only if they lose like 4 straight.
Bob
3:36
defensive metrics mean nothing.
Jeffrey Todd
3:36
Cool, thanks for sharing. What would you prefer we rely on?
3:37
I am ALL FOR listening to anyone who is actually a scout explain why player X is good/bad at fielding their position. But we don't have that info -- or, at least, we don't always. Metrics have clear limitations, but they are useful.
Tyson
3:37
Will Cozart be traded? It sounds like he cooled off.
Jeffrey Todd
3:38
Mostly just that there's no market demand. His value isn't dependent upon being a great hitter -- he is a completely underrated shortstop.
Metrics!!!

3:38
Who is a big name that no one is talking about getting traded that you think could be moved
Jeffrey Todd
3:38
I wish I could answer this, but I fear all the big names are actually being over-hyped as trade candidates.
3:39
But hey, we saw a Lester-for-Cespedes deal once, so you can't rule anything out.
