Could we possibly have a Martian Landing by the second half?
Mark P
9:06
Dominguez is hitting okay at Double-A but not dominating, so the Yankees will surely want to see him really break out before considering a move to Triple-A, let alone the majors
Jeff
9:08
Whats options do the Guardians have in the OF with Gonzalez demoted and Brennan hitting .180?
Mark P
9:09
It's not a long list, since Richie Palacios is hitting well but also might be more of a stopgap at the MLB level.

The Guardians will give Arias or Freeman a look, and another option might be to move Rosario into the OF again and call up Rocchio to play shortstop

Is it time to hit the panic button on Rodon that the Yankees NEVER get him healthy enough to pitch
Mark P
9:11
"Never" is a long time, and it's hard to believe that Rodon's career is suddenly over or anything.  But this back issue is certainly a big concern, and there's no indication that Rodon will return any time sooon

Are you the real Mark or ChatGPT?
Mark P

I definitely didn't set up a bot to run the chat tonight so I could watch the Leafs game.....no way, no sir, no how.

Brantley
9:13
How much time will he see at 1B?
Mark P
9:15
I'd imagine Houston still gives Abreu plenty of time to get on track, but this is still a team that wants to win.  Brantley will probably get a few games at 1B to acclimate him to the position at the MLB level, and if Abreu continues to struggle, Brantley will see more and more time.

Will Hunter Brown have an innings cap this year?
Mark P
9:17
Brown had around 126 total innings in 2022, so presumably the Astros wouldn't want him going much beyond the 160 IP mark?

That could be tough to manage with (in theory) a playoff run ahead, and with Houston already leaning on Brown within an injury-riddled rotation.
Ryu
9:18
Over/Under number of starts this year 8.5
Mark P
9:18
I vote under, just because his season might be in jeopardy if he hits any kind of rehab setback.
9:19
Also, if the Jays rotation keeps doing as generally well as they're doing, there's a non-zero chance Toronto might use Ryu out of the bullpen to decrease the wear on his arm
Betts
9:20
How many more games does he see at SS?
Mark P
9:21
Dave Roberts said today that once JD Martinez is back, Betts will still get some looks as a middle infielder when a RHP is on the mound
Bill
9:21
Do we see Taj Bradley back soon?
Mark P
9:21
Oh yeah, it's just a matter of time

The Giants aren't bad, but they have noneguys on offense that are exciting/effective enough to be the central part of a contender. Is there any path to a trade that would give them someone to slot into the 3-4-5 that could conceivably be an upgrade?
Mark P
9:22
They could acquire Contreras from St. Louis

(I'm kidding......kind of)
Rache_Cox
9:23
What are your opinions on the Cleveland Guardians
Mark P
9:24
They're not hitting whatsoever and their pitching has only been okay rather than great.  Since great pitching helped paper over a lack of offense in the past, it's no surprise that Cleveland has been struggling when it hasn't had anything less than A+ rotation work
9:26
I do wonder if the Guardians' aggressiveness might manifest itself in a bold trade.  While they usually don't do stuff like move a top prospect for more of a win-now player, maybe their eagerness to win one for Francona (and their major need for a bat) could inspire the Guards to do something out of character.

Why no love for NYM prospect Mark Vientos?  I get he's blocked  but no one talks about him at all, despite crazy ststs
Mark P
9:27
Oh, there are plenty of questions from Mets fans here about why Vientos hasn't been called up yet

Any possible deadline trade candidates from the Nats?
Mark P
9:29
All of the pending free agents, and Carl Edwards certainly looks like the best bet to be moved right now.  Lots of teams will need relief pitching
Jon
9:29
I suppose it's never too early to think about "surprise" sellers at the Deadline. You mentioned STL. If the Phillies fall out of the race, Nola likely becomes the top rental arm available, right? They seem fairly far apart on extension talks.
Mark P
9:31
Given last year's comeback, the Phillies would have to be really and truly way back in the standings before they started selling
Cardinals
9:32
I don't think Contreas gets traded to be honest
Mark P
9:33
Neither do I, both because of the weird optics, and because moving that contract would be a real difficulty without St. Louis probably having to eat some money
9:34
Which sounds strange considering that on paper, it seems like Contreras is having a very good season!  Above-average numbers at the plate, public defensive metrics were improved....before two days ago, it seemed like he was a clear bright spot on the team

It’s been 2 weeks! Anyone going to sign me? What’s Bochy waiting for?
Mark P
9:36
Bumgarner hasn't pitched well in over three seasons, so sentiment only goes so far
Mr Curiosity

Can the Leafs come back?
Mark P
9:36
Mr. Curiosity asked this question about 70 minutes ago, but I'll answer it now.....nope!

Is Adolis Garcia one of the more underrated players in the league? 25-25 guy last year
Mark P
9:38
The lack of OBP and the big strikeout numbers don't help, but Garcia is indeed a very good player that a lot of teams would love to have.  If the Rangers keep winning and garner more attention, Garcia won't be under the radar for long
