Twins Offense
8:40
Minny’s pitching seems to be a legit postseason staff. Who should they target to provide a jolt to their offense to match their staff?
Mark P
8:41
It feels to me like the Twins have the bats, but they just can't get everyone healthy at the same time.  Obviously Correa getting back in form would also help enormously, and he's showed some good signs recently

When will Liam Hendricks be activated?   I heard he was struggling a bit.
Mark P
8:43
Moving Hendriks to the 60-day IL would rule him out until the end of May, since the clock on his 60-day placement starts at the same as his initial 10-day IL placement at the start of the season.

Another 10 days or so might help in getting Hendriks on track with his rehab assignment, since he was shaky in the minors.  It isn't surprising that he'd need more time than usual.

The trop is across the bridge in St. Pete.. adds 30-45mins to Tampa commute. If they bring the stadium on the mainland, attendance will go up. Simple.
Mark P

Thanks!  This is what I was always told about the Trop's location, which is why putting a new ballpark in the same spot wouldn't really seem to answer the attendance problem

Is newly traded left fielder Daulton Varsho just struggling because on a new team in a different division? Is there more of a concern?
Mark P
8:46
A lot of Varsho's metrics look pretty similar to last year, except that his power is way down.  It hasn't made for a good recipe for success, since obviously the Jays expected a lot more
8:47
Still early in the season, mind you, but Varsho's lack of productivity has been one of the bigger factors in the Jays' inconsistent offense

Am I done?

The latest reports indicate that he could be approaching another minor league rehab, so stay tuned
Mariners Frustration
8:49
The way I see it the Mariners two biggest wholes coming into the season was 2B and DH. They did zero to fix that obviously and honestly its worse. When do they give up on the throw it at the wall DH night in night out routine. So anychance thet can trade one of those young AA pitchers right now for either a solid hitter that they can trust night in or night out. Or a 2b like India or Gorman?
Mark P
8:50
Acquiring Wong, Teoscar, and Pollock seemed like legitimate way to fill those holes, and it's worth noting that Hernandez traditionally gets off to slow starts.

But you're right in noting that Seattle's moves have definitely not panned out yet, and the team has been further hampered by J-Rod, Suarez, and France all underperforming
8:51
Gorman or India aren't being dealt, unless Cincinnati is so keen on their influx of young infielders that they're willing to move India for a big return (which, honestly, might be a logical move, as good as India is)

Do the Royals need to reboot the rebuild? Don’t see a lot of great prospects on the horizon.
Mark P
8:54
Dayton Moore's firing was the first sign of a sea change, but it's not like the Royals are going to blow it up entirely and, say, move Witt or Pasquantino or something weird.
8:55
But it's clear at this point that even after several years of losing, KC is unfortunately not close to daylight
Dbacks
8:55
With the way Gabriel Moreno has played so far, could the Dbacks possibly look to trade Carson Kelly when he returns for a SP or some bullpen help?
Mark P
8:55
Kelly won't be back until mid-July anyway, so that's not exactly much time to drum up trade value.

How much longer will the Trayce Thompson experiment continue? It is honestly painful to watch. He hasn’t had a single hit in over a month, literally!!! Surely a minor leaguer could come up and hit better…..
Mark P
8:58
Thompson is unfortunately making it seem like his big 2022 numbers were just an aberration.  Between Outman's lack of track record, Peralta's struggles, and Heyward kind of coming back to earth, outfield help should be on the Dodgers' checklist heading into the deadline
8:59
Andy Pages just got promoted to Triple-A, so a hot start there could put him on the fast track to Los Angeles before maybe the start of July?
Diego Cartaya
9:00
With Rushing's offensive explosion in High-A and myself floundering in Double A, am I expendable to the Dodgers?
Mark P
9:01
Will Smith's future is the bigger factor here, since he's under control through 2025.  That's enough time to perhaps already make Cartaya (or Rushing expendable) even if Smith isn't signed to an extension, but the Dodgers locking Smith up also seems very possible
9:02
In short, yeah, Cartaya could definitely be a big trade chip, his Double-A struggles notwithstanding
JHM
9:03
When do the Tigers call me up?
Mark P
9:04
He's hit a bit of a slump lately, but Malloy should be up in the bigs by midseason
I hope for every at-bat, the Tigers play that clip of Grandpa Simpson saying "oh, it's you, Malloy."

Is Justyn Henry Malloy destined to be known as JHM, and when can we expect a call up?
Mark P

This comment was also posted because it occurred to me that some (most?) readers might not know who "JHM" is

Any teams you think have seen something in the first quarter of the season that might make them early buyers or sellers on the trade market?  outside of those teams that will sell even the fixtures.
Mark P
9:07
I've posted this before, but you don't usually see many notable early trades, and we'll probably see even fewer in this era of the draft taking place at the All-Star break.  As many GMs have stated, front offices are so busy with prospect scouting prep that they don't even turn to trade negotiations until after the draft is over.

How far does Crow-Armstrong get the Cubs for Ohtani?
Mark P
9:08
The Angels would call that "a nice start," and then ask who the other four guys in the trade would be

Can the Orioles keep the pressure on the AL East solely through promotions or do they need to make a trade?
Mark P
9:10
As good as Baltimore's prospects are, it's a lot to ask of youngsters to make their MLB debuts and immediately start contributing to a pennant contender.

So I do think the Orioles will make a trade and "have to" to some extent, but maybe just adding one pitcher?  This team already has a lot of talent.

Will the White Sox give Oscar Colas another chance?
Mark P
9:11
No doubt.  He's been crushing it at Triple-A, so another call-up might not be too far away

Any possible takers on A.Hicks after clearing waivers?
Mark P
9:12
As bad as the struggles have been, I surely expect some teams to pursue Hicks, for change-of-scenery logic alone.
