Isn't it awesome to finally have the Marlins playing meaningful baseball! Do you feel like thier current organization is going to leave behind thier reputation of blowing up the team every few years once they have success? Their players, fans and the rest of baseball are ready for them to take thier place in the game.

I'm sure Miami fans are more than ready to see their team just operate like a normal team for the first time ever, and the fact that it's translating into some success on the field is added gravy.

It's funny, imagine telling a Marlins fan what the team's record would be on June 11, and that Alcantara would be struggling, Jazz is hurt, Segura is badly scuffling, etc.

Are you a little surprised none of the pitching needy teams didn’t at least take a flyer on plesac?
Mark P
9:44
I'm sure a few teams at least called the Guards exploring a trade, but a lack of claims might indicate that other teams around the league see the same red flags with Plesac that the stats indicate

I know the Dodgers are contending but is there any chance they trade Urias at deadline as his a Boras client and will be free agent?
Mark P
9:45
Zero chance, both because of the Dodgers being in contention, and because Urias right now is still injured.
9:46
Urias looks to be back in a couple of weeks, but with one setback already, that's a cautious timeline

Does Chris Sale have any value any more, either for the Sox or as a trade piece?
Mark P
9:48
Not as a trade piece, unless the Sox ate basically the rest of his money.  In terms of roster value, Sale has shown glimpses of his old self, and I feel he'd at least be a decent rotation member --- even a B-version of Chris Sale is still a viable big league starter.  But, it all depends on his health, and it is becoming increasingly doubtful that he'll be able to stay healthy for an extended period.

Does Alek Manoah get fixed and return later in the season?
Mark P
9:50
It's a complete X factor.  Manoah's decline has been so severe and so unexpected that you can't really gauge when he might be back.  I have trouble believing that his career is suddenly over or anything, but the fact that the Jays seem to be exploring a full overhaul is a sign of how dire things have gotten

Do you think that Las Vegas can actually support a team?  Low population, with most people being transplants, and tourists don't want to go to a game.
Mark P
9:54
I do think the A's will ultimately move to Vegas, but the fact that there's already some public discord from residents isn't a good sign.  Vegas is obviously not an entertainment-starved market overall, and adding the Golden Knights and Raiders might have already addressed their lack of a pro sports presence

Will Smith has established himself as one of the best catchers in the league and the Dodgers have at least two big time catching prospects in the minors.  Could you see LA possibly trading Cartaya or Rushing?
Mark P
9:56
Possible, but there's also some questions about whether or not Rushing will remain at catcher.  This surplus might not necessarily be a surplus if the team decides a position change is required.

Do the Mets have a chance at the playoffs?
Mark P
9:58
Sure, it's only June 11.  As disappointing as the Mets' season has been, they're far from the only underwhelming NL team, so it's not like they've fallen way out of the playoff race

Come deadline time, if the cards do decide to do a mini sell/retool what are they trying to get. They have so much depth already and they won’t be able to get an ace with the rentals.
Mark P
9:59
Controllable pitching is the obvious need.  While you're right that an ace type won't be readily available unless the Cardinals dealt someone surprising, just getting some controllable younger arms into the fold would help the Cards make plans for 2024

What kind of return would you expect for Jorge Polanco if he is healthy at the deadline? Is there a team that would trade a starting CF for Polanco so the Twins can keep Julien in the lineup?
Mark P
10:02
Polanco is controlled through 2025 via club options, so technically, he's the kind of longer-term asset that other teams (both contenders and non-contenders) might have a real interest in.

But, Polanco has been battling injuries for two years now, so suitors will rightfully wonder how healthy he might be.  And, moving Polanco then puts a lot of pressure on Julien to step into an everyday role

Ben Cherrington and Pirates asst GM Steve Sanders were both in Toronto when Manoah was drafted - - - Do they know the level up passcodes to restore Alek´s career? What type of return would the Blue Jays accept?
Mark P
10:03
The Jays aren't trading Manoah, since how could they possibly get a quality return at this moment?

The Braves still look awfully dangerous to me, rotation injuries notwithstanding
And the Dodgers are obviously still very good, and the D'Backs are for real in my view.

Is Nathan Eovaldi a Cy Young contender?

Most definitely

10:09
Which White Sox pitcher would make the most sense for the Braves to try to trade for if the numbers and players could be made to work?
Mark P
10:11
Giolito makes sense as a rental pickup.  Lynn has been too inconsistent, and Cease/Kopech probably aren't being moved unless Chicago decides to rebuild

Do signing bonuses, incentives, and/or buy outs count towards the team’s luxury tax? Always been curious…

Yes

Haha! Now the fickle Giants fans are calling him “Farmhan” now that Schmitt, Bailey, and other rookies are contributing in the bigs and Matos, Harrison, and Brown are among the group that could debut this year. Has Zaidi’s much maligned plan started to pay dividends or will fans be showing him the door again soon?
Mark P
10:13
Perhaps no exec has gone through as much of a roller-coaster in fan perception than Zaidi in the last few years, and having some prospects actually deliver corrects what had been something of a shortcoming in his rebuild plan (which ended up being pretty competitive for a rebuild)

Do orioles make the playoffs?
Mark P
10:14
Yes.  They look like the real deal to me, and might only get better once Mullins is back, they call up more top prospects, swing a trade or two, etc.
