What are the chances the Pirates re-sign Ivan Nova this offseason?
Jeffrey Todd
2:54
Not so great once he hits the market, but they did bring back Liriano and know exactly how to value Nova since they just got to see it all up front.

did chip hale get a raw deal??? not his fault a j got hurt, not his fault miller didnt pitch to his capability...
Jeffrey Todd
2:54
Inevitable that he was gone when they decided to can Stewart. Gives a new GM a clean slate, and they need to present the situation as well as possible for that search.
2:55
Whoa I got further behind in the queue than I realized. Jumping ahead ...

There's no replacing Papi, but what do the Red Sox do to mitigate the loss?
Jeffrey Todd
2:55
Plenty of big bats if they want.

What does Oh get this off season?
Jeffrey Todd
2:56
His option picked up by STL
Mike Trout
2:56
Going into next season I should have won 5 consecutive MVPs. Instead I have one, in my worst season. Crazy.
Jeffrey Todd
2:57
He could still win this one. I don't necessarily think he had to win it every season, but yeah, it's ridiculous. I also don't really care all that much about MVP awards.

Is Josh Reddick a Mariners off season target?
Jeffrey Todd
2:58
Certainly plausible. SEA has a lot of ways it could go. I think a lot hinges on how they view Ketel at short. If they really want to win next year, hard to just throw him back out there and hope he is good.
Several places they could stash some bats, including corner OF/1B.

Why isn't there a chat every day?
Jeffrey Todd
2:59
Because it takes an hour+ of a writer's time, which we could also be dedicating to delivering you the amazing content that leads you here in the first place!
But thanks for implying that it would be desirable.

I imagine next year, the Twins will need to jettison at least 2 of Byung-Ho Park, Kennys Vargas, Adam Brett Walker and Daniel Palka. If you were in Derek Falvey's shoes, which way would you go?
Jeffrey Todd
2:59
Unless all of the non-Park dudes are out of options, I don't see why this would be necessary. They can let it play out.
3:00
I'm not sure to be honest, but suspect not.

Seven Braves questions already? Come on man. Every chat is like that. There have to be enough good questions about other teams to go around.
Jeffrey Todd
3:02
Look, some of those just happened to involve ATL and I addressed other teams. And the Braves are kind of wide open in a lot of ways. They are interesting.
I am looking for good questions on other teams, though, I assure you.
Still none
3:02
Nkne of my questions answered again
Jeffrey Todd

There are many more readers in this chat than there are questions I can publish/answer.

What do you think about Epstein's record breaking contract? I mean if anyone deserves it, it's probably him. Still pretty high for an exec?
Jeffrey Todd
3:03
Seems reasonable given all the money in the game and all he has overseen at Wrigley. I mean, you have to consider how much is going on there. The team's on-field success is coinciding perfectly with their business plan. They must be killing it.

What do you see the Padres doing with Derek Norris? Could they actually trade him or would they basically have to make him a backup catcher while turning Bethancourt into the ultimate two way baseball player? (somewhat sarcastic)
Jeffrey Todd
3:05
I think they'd be hard pressed not to give Hedges a significant role. And it's kinda hard to see Bethancourt really playing this kind of super-utility role, because he probably isn't going to be very good at it if he's not playing mostly behind the plate. It would be easier to keep all three if there was a DH or even a 1B platoon to utilize Norris (and if he warranted that with his bat).
3:06
So that all points to trading Norris. Good time to do so from a market perspective, even if he just won't bring back what they probably hoped. But the Cubs have done the 3 catcher thing in the NL, so it isn't impossible.

3:06
What would you offer Dexter Fowler if you were a GM?
Jeffrey Todd
3:07
Without having focused in on it in detail, I don't see why he can't land in the Curtis Granderson range (4/60).
