Rebuild Brewing
8:25
in your estimation are we seeing the start a full rebuild in Milwaukee?
Mark P
8:26
Not in the sense of a multi-year teardown like the Cubs, Astros, or Orioles.  2024 might well be a step-back year to reload and to give the younger guys some big league playing time, and then the Brewers can have a better sense of what they have heading into 2025

8:27
What (specifically) would the Ms need to give up to land Juan Soto?
Mark P
8:28
Since the Padres still want to compete next year, they'll want some MLB-ready talent rather than just prospects.  Something like Kelenic, one of Miller or Woo (probably Miller), and a lower-tier prospect or two might get the Padres' attention?

A lot of chatter on some Tigers pages about a possible trade for India.  I don't think it makes much sense from the Tigers standpoint.  What say you?
Mark P
8:30
I can see the logic, but the Tigers probably don't want to block second base when Keith and Jung are on the way up

AA typically operates with incredible secrecy. Do all the rumors about Gray heading to Atlanta seem like a head fake (as did the “reports” that Nola was about to sign with the Braves)?
Mark P
8:31
It's not like Anthopoulos has a total cone of silence.  From last winter, the reports of Atlanta's interest in Murphy leaked out a couple of weeks before the big three-team trade.

When should we expect Ohtani to sign?
Mark P
8:33
It seems like most of what you hear about Ohtani is speculative at best, but allegedly he would prefer to sign earlier in the offseason.

Am I about to make the move to San Diego?
Mark P
8:35
My guess is that it'll be Shildt or Flaherty.  Naturally the manager search has been halted by the Padres deal with the passing of Peter Seidler

8:35
what would a brotherly extension look like for us and the gaurds?
Mark P
8:37
Given how Cleveland usually operates, I'd be shocked if they don't approach Bo Naylor about an extension this offseason.  Extending Josh would be trickier, since with only two years of control left, he might already be in more of the "2025 trade candidate" zone for the Guardians
But, who know what kind of deal Josh might want, and there's some unique appeal about staying in Cleveland and playing with his brother

Phillies got Nola back. What’s next? I know they want to pursue YY. What is realistic?
Mark P
8:38
Apparently the Phillies have some interest in Yamamoto still, but only in him specifically among pitchers.

A lot of Philly's roster is pretty set, though some more relief pitching is still a need

Where does Woodruff end up?
Mark P
8:40
I wouldn't entirely rule out a return to Milwaukee if the money is right.  Quite a few teams make sense for Woodruff, ranging from contenders to teams that aren't set to compete in 2024 but perhaps by 2025

Knowing chances are a bit slimmer to re-sign Bregman next offseason, should Houston look to trade him this offseason and sign someone a bit cheaper like Jeimer Candeleiro?
Mark P
8:42
This isn't really Houston's style, as evidenced by their past instances of letting Verlander, Springer, and Correa go to free agency.

A reliable source, though a friend of a friend confirms Trout is going to the Phillies for the Fanatic and a PTB named later. Any truth to this one?
Mark P
8:44
Bad move.  Trout is only one of the best players ever, whereas the Phanatic is the GOAT

Any word on if the Rays plan to add at all this offseason? All I see are rumors of them trading away their pieces...
Mark P
8:45
That's how the Rays just operate, in shuffling some pieces off the roster and perpetually reloading with new talent (either from the farm or from other clubs)

Absolutely

do the astros have to drop the mentality of not going above six years on contracts to compete in the division from here on out
Mark P
8:48
The "six-year limit" is not set in stone, as I'm sure Jim Crane would be willing to be flexible in certain special circumstances.  And if the Astros keep developing from within and getting good results from their (still quality) core, they should be competitive for quite a while to come

what is a fair deal for Dylan Cease from the O’s. Seeing a lot of O’s fans terrified of the idea of giving up the likes of Kjerstad or Cowser for him
Mark P
8:50
For two years of Cease, the White Sox can rightfully ask for at least one top-100 prospect.  Now, I don't think Baltimore is moving Kjerstad or Cowser in all likelihood, but the O's have a lot of other good prospects that might get Chicago to budge
Mark P
8:54
How shocked would you be to see Tarik Skubal traded this winter?
Mark P
8:54
Not completely floored, but it doesn't make much sense for the Tigers to move Skubal of all their pitchers
Kyle
8:55
The Marlins didn’t seem terribly interested in using Xavier Edwards last season. Did his limited playing time get him value as a trade chip?
Mark P
8:56
Edwards is an interesting player to consider for Miami since he's also a former Ray, and Peter Bendix has already shown an inclination to pick up a few of his old players from Tampa.  That might give Edwards another look with the Marlins.....or if might indeed get him dealt, since Bendix already parted ways with Edwards once
Brewers
8:58
Rhys Hoskins fits the power/corner infielder the Brewers need.  How much/how many years will it take?
Mark P
8:59
One year, or two years with an opt-out.  Probably in the range of $15MM per season.

Kikuchi for Polanco who says no? Jays can sell high on Kikuchi and sign another starter.
