It's just so hard for them to sign guys. Logan was a big overpay the last time, though he was finally productive last year.
There's a reason they gave Logan a huge contract and then gave pretty good money to two older relievers last winter. Can't get guys to come there otherwise.

What direction do you see the A's FO taking this winter? More of the same or a bold move into FA?
Jeffrey Todd
2:36
They could do a lot of different things, but I'm not sure they need to go targeting anyone. There's a fair bit of OF depth in the market, much of it more solid than exciting. Can seek some value there by waiting.

How much stock do you put into McCutchen's last 2 months? He had OPS north of .800 in both months with it approaching .900 in September. Seems like to me that could greatly benefit the Pirates in trade talks.
Jeffrey Todd
2:37
It could indeed. Still the matters of declining glove, increasing cost, age, and the rest of the season. Not to say another team wouldn't take a calculated gamble, but that's different than paying big for a superstar.

I called Pedro and Luis Tiant and they aren't available. where can I find a #3 starter?????
Jeffrey Todd
2:38
Things could change if an opportunity arose, and maybe it's just rope-a-dope, but DD has given every indication they aren't looking for SP this winter.

Who will be the best player to get non-tendered this winter?
Jeffrey Todd
2:39
Just look at that.
Sorry can't answer the question, marveling at your handle.
Trevor Plouffe?

When is the FA prediction contest being released
Jeffrey Todd
2:41
It is in the works, but there was change going on, so it is delayed. Not sure honestly but we are doing our best.
Andrew Friedman

What kind of value can I get for Howie Kendrick in return?
Jeffrey Todd
2:42
I mean, he's probably a roughly fairly-priced asset at 1/$10MM. So ... a flawed prospect or a useful-ish but not cheap MLB reliever or utility type?

Could you see the Cubbies trading Strop and/or Rondon? They combine for $11 million against the cap.
Jeffrey Todd
2:43
Tim Dierkes suggested that in his outlook, and he'd know better than I would. Not sure they'd feel salary pressure, but perhaps could use them to facilitate a MLB-for-MLB deal of some kind.

Wellington Castillo as a Mets C target?
Jeffrey Todd
2:44
Eh. DBacks won't be inclined to give him up with nothing else on hand, and Mets won't be that excited. So hard to see something like that coming together. Think NYM would rather roll the dice on TDA.

Any chance we are undervaluing what a guy like Cashner or Gomez can get on this market? I was thinking 1 year deals to recoup value, but now I'm leaning to both getting around 4/60. Wouldn't be too surprising.
Jeffrey Todd
2:45
That sounds awful steep. I guess Gomez could get there if multiple teams really bought into him, but I don't quite see it.
Thing is, lack of SPs also generally matches lack of need, right? So big spending teams like the Red Sox, Cubs, Dodgers, Nats, Giants aren't all that desperate in the rotation.
2:46
Same with CF and on down the line. Catcher might be an exception.
I don't see the weak class leading to huge overpays, honestly. Maybe a couple here and there, but that's typical.

Dexter Fowler a fit for Texas?
Jeffrey Todd
2:46
I love Dex as a fit there, and in a lot of other places. Cards, Nats, even Mets, Dodgers.
2:47
I think he'll do well.
Ryan

Cashner won't sign with the Cubs to be their closer. He has explicitly stated he prefers to start.
Jeffrey Todd
2:47
Well, I obviously agree, but crazier things have happened.

will the yankees ever have a 30 HR hitter ever again?
Jeffrey Todd
2:48
Didn't Gary Sanchez almost hit that many in like 35 games? Ha.

What month do you expect to be the most "active" month in FA?
Jeffrey Todd
2:48
Always December.
Neil
2:49
What pitchers will the Yankees acquire if not Rich Hill?
Jeffrey Todd
2:50
Loads of possibilities, particularly in trade market. I've always liked the thought of swapping Gardner or McCann for a Jaime Garcia, Gio Gonzalez type (good veteran, not cheap, year or two of control ... basically a parallel asset).

Will anyone (and who) accept a qualifying offer
Jeffrey Todd
2:51
I don't think so. More likely we see another situation where a guy negotiates a deal to stay before deciding. Neil Walker, perhaps.

What would it take for us to get Derek Norris?
Jeffrey Todd
2:54
Not a ton, though SDP could just keep holding and waiting I guess. I do think he'll draw some interest b/c he has hit in the majors before, there's so much demand, and the other options are unappealing in various ways.
