No doubt.

Out of the glut of outfield options the Red Sox have, who do you see being shipped out for pitching and would any team really value them highly? Rafaela, Duran, Abreyu. I'd rather see them re-sign Duvall instead of Hernandez. He fit the chemistry well it seemed.
Mark P
2:41
I'd be very surprised to see Rafaela moved.  Duran or Abreu seem like far likelier trade candidates, if the Red Sox did look to deal from their outfield....well, "surplus" is the wrong word, but their number of outfielders
Halos
2:43
Whats the likleyhood Halos sign Hader and Snell to keep relevant in the AL West.
Mark P
2:45
Uh, "keep" relevant?

The Angels seem intent on spending and trying to rebound from losing Ohtani, yet I do wonder if they might need to overpay to land players with options elsewhere.  If you're Snell, for instance, wouldn't you prefer to join a Giants team that seems to have more going for it than an Angels team with such a long string of losing seasons?
Gregg
2:45
Cease to the Os makes too much sense. Is Holliday untouchable?
Mark P
2:46
Yep.  Not sure how many Baltimore prospects are truly untouchable, but Holliday is assuredly one of them

Does working for MLBTR guarantee a sub-10 rarity score on Immaculate Grid every day?
Mark P
2:47
I've definitely been stumped more than a few times by the Grid.  More often than not, my failures come when I try to get too cute with a "rare" player, as opposed to playing it safe with a more obvious choice
Cincy
2:48
Would teoscar be a perfect fit here?
Mark P
2:49
That's an interesting idea, as Hernandez would bring more offensive upside to the table than the Fraley/Benson duo in right field.  Plus, one would imagine Hernandez would like hitting in such a homer-friendly ballpark
2:50
I'm not sure Hernandez is in a position to be seeking out one-year "prove it" type of contracts, but if he is, Cincinnati might be a great fit for such a deal.  It creates more of a backlog for the Reds' position-player wise, yet it would only be for one season, and I do feel Cincy will be trading someone anyway

It seems like my Rangers are trying to rein in their spending a bit this offseason.  While reinforcements will be coming after the ASB for starting pitching, the Rangers bullpen probably needs a bit more attention even though the postseason was good.  Also, Should the Rangers overpay to get Montgomery to return?  Like 5/150?
Mark P
2:51
Montgomery is the guy I'd spend on if I was Texas, because he's a proven commodity and because counting on the injured guys to all return at midseason (and be effective) is a risky gambit.

Thinking a bit outside the box, would any of these teams who continuously develop starting pitching accept the following offer from the Nats: James Wood to the Guardians for Gavin Williams, to the Dodgers for Bobby Miller, or to the Marlins for Eury Perez.
Mark P
2:54
Wood-for-Williams is the likeliest of these options.  The Marlins aren't moving Perez and the Dodgers still need enough pitching that they aren't eager to move Miller for an unproven player.

The Guardians, however, could badly use a young bat for their outfield.  Giving up Williams is significant, but since good young pitchers seemingly grow on trees in Cleveland, maybe the Guards might take the risk since they feel they can develop more pitching later

Last update on Yariel Rodriguez didn't include Boston or SD mentioned, but I thought a month ago those two teams held a private workout. Something change on that end or is it just new teams entering the mix?
Mark P
2:55
The last update didn't rule out any of the other previously-mentioned teams for Rodriguez.  It was just Francys Romero noting that the Pirates, Astros, Yankees, and Blue Jays were still in the mix....could very well be (and likely are) several other teams still with interest

Should the Royals trade Bobby Witt Jr?

Nope

Happy Holidays Mark P! Could we please get your best guess to who the following three Free Agents end up with-- Blake Snell, Rhys Hoskins, and Soler?
Mark P
2:56
Off the top of my head, Snell to San Fran, Hoskins to the Cubs, Soler to Anaheim

What happened to Madison Baumgartner?  Did he retire? Free agent?
Mark P

There hasn't been any buzz about Bumgarner since Arizona released him in April.  He's still being paid through the 2024 season by the D'Backs, so a new team would owe him a MLB minimum salary if he was inked to a minor league deal.

At age 34 and after a few years of struggles, I could see Bumgarner perhaps just hanging up the glove and calling it a career.  Or, perhaps he's taken the year to regroup and is now plotting a comeback to try and revive things

Year one of Taijuan Walker is in the books and he performed similar to his past 2 yrs, pitches well, then wears down. Why is the signing considered a failure and the contract immovable w/o the Phils kicking in %...?
Mark P
3:03
If you sign a guy for $72MM, you'd hope he would at least make the playoff roster, right?  By that token, it's hard to call Walker's 2023 season successful.  It's not a "failure" of a signing since it's only one year in, yet obviously the Phillies and Walker himself are hoping for more in 2024
Disapponited?
3:04
Should I be disappointed that Cohen and Stearns  are standing down in 2024 without doing much to prep for 2025?
Mark P
3:05
We've known this was going to happen for the last five months, and frankly, taking a step back to more properly launch a contending roster might be a wiser long-term move for the Mets
Guy

Ty France for Kevin Alcantara. Who says no?
Mark P
3:07
Chicago.  The Cubs aren't moving a top-100 prospect for a first baseman who might not be appreciatively better what the Cubs already have at the position

Would it be wise to give Luken baker a chance at first base ...trade goldy then take money saved and sign Montgomery and a solid reliever
Mark P
3:09
Or, maybe they just sign Montgomery and have both him and Goldschmidt on the same roster?  Moving Goldy to create room for Luken Baker doesn't seem the best idea.

"A Christmas Story" or "Christmas Vacation"?

A Christmas Story

This might be the hottest take I ever drop in one of these chats, but I'm not a fan of the Vacation movies.

If Robert is really available, would a PCA and Horton package get him to the Cubs?
Mark P

White Sox would want substantially more

I have a question regarding handedness. We always hear that a lineup needs some lefty hitters to balance things out. But wouldn't having more lefty than right hitters make sense since most pitchers are right?
Mark P
3:12
But then when an opposing team starts a southpaw or brings in a lefty reliever, you'd in trouble.

Lineup "balance" means exactly that....roughly an equal number of LHH/RHH hitters, plus maybe a switch-hitter or two in the mix.
