Could you see a Lindor move back to Cleveland..assuming the Mets eat salary
Mark P
8:47
Not happening.

Any team signing Belt at this stage of the season?
Mark P
8:49
While I'm sure Belt has been working out and staying as ready as possible, he'd need probably two months of extended Spring Training to make up for missing actual ST and for two full months of the season.
It's not out of the question, but it's also a risk for both parties involved

Im a Boston fan. My friends and family are not happy because they didn’t spend during the offseason, but im okay with developing the younger players. What are your thoughts on the Red Sox approach?
Mark P
8:50
Solving their pitching issues seemingly overnight is a big step in the right direction.  Of course, one might also argue that in hindsight, the Red Sox should've spent more on a hitter or two, and then this team would really be cooking.
8:51
Boston looks like a solid team to date, though it's hard to really grade their approach when it's still pretty early into Breslow's run, and because the organization seems to change its mind every few years when a new PBO/GM comes aboard

So what's on the playlist tonight?
Mark P
8:52
"Your Woman" by White Town
Rangers
8:52
How big of a hole is too big? Even with healthy bats and arms on the horizon
Mark P
8:53
Texas is only three games back of the Mariners.  Despite all their struggles to date, the Rangers are barely in any kind of a hole at all, and have plenty of runway to make another run at the division

When does the heat get turned up on Ben Cherington?  In addition to throwing away a cool 10 mil on Aroldis Chapman, how can anyone justify the string of lousy first basemen signed on his watch?
Mark P
8:56
Connor Joe has played a good deal of first base, and that acquisition at least worked out well.

Cherington has definitely received plenty of criticism from Pittsburgh fans impatient over the direction of the rebuild.  The offseason has been particularly questionable since the Pirates showed some promise last year, but the front office (while obviously limited by financial restraints) spent what money they had in unusual directions.  It's hard to say the Pirates as a whole have made a lot of progress this season to date, despite the good vibes provides by Jones and Skenes
8:57
To be clear, this isn't to say that Cherington should be fired or anything.  Rome wasn't built in a day, and like I mentioned, he does have to work within a very tight payroll.  But, clearly some more aggression or bigger risks needed to be taken in acquiring veteran help.
Cards
8:58
any word on when the cards game will start?
Mark P
8:58
About 8:40pm CT

8:58
Do I upgrade Outfield, SP, or both at the deadline?
Mark P
9:00
The Guardians haven't traditionally been overly aggressive at the deadline, or have been aggressive in the more abstract fashion of both buying and selling at the same time.
9:01
Maybe it's just because I have so much faith in Cleveland's pitching development, but I'd still go with outfield help as the bigger need, if the Guards can only target one thing.  In a season dominated by pitching, the Guardians might find a unique lane by focusing on adding as much hitting as possible, which is a wild statement to make given the last few years of Cleveland baseball
Brandon Crawford
9:03
Is it time for me to retire?
Mark P
9:04
Only Crawford knows this for sure, but his performance looks like this might be it
Ben Cherington
9:04
What would it take for me to get Luis Robert Jr. from the White Sox?  Is Henry Davis enough?
Mark P
9:05
It'd take a lot more than just Davis.  In fact, Chicago's interest in Davis might be somewhat muted if the White Sox are sold on Korey Lee as their catcher of the future
Kevin
9:07
do the Braves try and acquire an outfielder if Acuna is out for an extended time or do they stick with Duvall and Kelenic?
Mark P
9:08
Sure, just pick up Soler, Rosario, and Pederson, then plan the parade!

Real answer: they will surely make some kind of OF acquisition if Acuna does miss more than just a month.  Duvall/Kelenic was working for one outfield spot, but stretching them over two positions is asking a lot
Dallas
9:09
What do you think the Mets can get for Severino? Honestly a great signing for them
Mark P
9:11
His K/BB rates aren't where you'd like them to be, but overall Severino has had a nice bounce-back year.  I almost wonder if the Mets are internally convinced enough to offer him an extension now, or if they'll just stick to what was surely the plan of flipping him at the deadline.

The Amazins won't get a top 100 prospect or anything, but Severino has some interesting added value as an ex-ace that other teams might have designs on retaining beyond just the season.

Wouldn't be awesone if Will Smith got another World Series ring?  Do you think that's why the Royals signed him?
Mark P
9:12
We should've seen the Royals' surge coming.....it's all about the Will Smith influence!
Tony

Thanks for the chats. For the last year and a half or so, the Arenado to the Dodgers rumors have run rampant. Can't believe the Cards or Dodgers would be motivated for this, but what would a trade look like if it was consummated? How about Frasso and Stone (I am a Cardinal fan right?)
Mark P
9:13
As I've posted in regards to other Arenado trade suggestions this season....he's going to have to start playing a lot better before LA or any other team gets interested in an acquisition
The Fonz
9:14
What in the world is going on with Austin Riley?
Mark P
9:14
Beats me.  The Braves' approach to Riley's injury has been baffling, as he has already missed well over 10 days without ever going on the 10-day IL.
Jeremy
9:16
If Sasaki does wind up coming over would anything stop a team from immediately giving him a big extension?
Mark P
9:17
The league wouldn't allow such a direct end-around of the rules
Michael
9:18
Is this the year Ramirez win the MVP ?
Mark P
9:19
Jose Ramirez?  He's having another nice year, but Naylor might get more MVP votes among Guardians alone

When will the Phillies finally pull off their championship
Mark P
9:20
I'd say by 1980.  Or 2008 at the latest.
