Pitching injuries and regression.
That's always a risk, of course, but especially so for CHC.
Ted
2:49
Will the Royals be able to sign Cain, Hosmer or Moustakas to a long term deal?
Jeffrey Todd
2:50
Don't really see it as very likely. Think they only landed Duffy b/c he was willing to put a big risk premium on his anticipated future FA earnings.
Curious
2:51
the runners on in extra innings idea is crazy for MLB, right?
Jeffrey Todd
2:51
I haven't seen details on this, but I don't like such concocted scenarios, personally.
Rhett
2:51
What is your thought on a potential Marlins sale and its impacts on the team with regards to player acquisition?
Jeffrey Todd
2:52
Hard to know, but you'd have to think anyone paying that much would be looking to make the org more of a consistent contender that can generate more consistent revenue.
2:53
Of course, the report suggests there's too much debt in the proposal, which I suppose isn't the most promising sign.
Podcasts
2:53
Why don't we see any MLB TradeRumor podcasts anymore?
Jeffrey Todd
2:53
Because I am a quitter.
2:54
Basically, we had a solid listenership but it wasn't generating growth or real revenue, so time better spent elsewhere.
Boss
2:54
You are in a distinct minority of ppl who don't value Bird. Why?
Jeffrey Todd
2:55
Didn't say I don't value him. But he's a first baseman who doesn't have much power. Prospect hounds never talked him up as a superstar. Hard to get all that excited about the profile.
Ken
2:56
What do you think of the Padres outfield situation? Margot/jankowski/Renfroe/Dickerson. Seems like they might be a decent group
Jeffrey Todd
2:57
That group has some potential, sure, but little in the way of MLB track record to go on. Hard to guess, but you have to temper expectations and realize that for every quality player who performs well from the get-go, there's another who struggles before finding his way.

2:58
If the M's come out of the gate slow, will we see a fire sale in July? This window, barely ajar, is about to slam.
Jeffrey Todd
2:58
My own guess is that would require a truly disastrous first half. All signals from ownership/Dipoto have been that they want to win now.

WHY DID THE ORIOLES PAY ME LESS THEN 40MM?
Jeffrey Todd
2:59
Better question is why you got as much as you did when Carter just got 1/3.
Ken
2:59
Will Myers extension? Good value for prime years or over pay after one year of production?
Jeffrey Todd
3:00
Felt it was a bit steep. As a first baseman, the numbers were solid but not great, and he's an injury risk. They obviously believe in him, so great, go for it, but I'd have guessed a lower price tag had you asked before the deal went down.

How far underwater is the Greinke contract? Given that the D-Backs have SP depth, could ZG be bad-contract swapped?
Jeffrey Todd
3:01
Hmm ... how much would Greinke have earned this winter? Maybe something like the James Shields contract? 4/80-ish?
3:02
Assuming teams were willing to more or less look past the injuries and tepid 2016.
Might have been less.

Thoughts on romo being added to the dodgers rotation?
Jeffrey Todd
3:02
Great value. Velo was down, but his K/BB was still as nice as ever.
Cookie Monster
3:03
What kinda coffee did you get? Are you a traditionalist or did you get a orange mocha non fat blended half caf frapachino?
Jeffrey Todd
3:03
Just a black coffee.
But yeah I am at starbucks ... limited options in my parents' hood of Sterling, VA, where I am stranded.
3:04
(Yes I blog from my parents' basement sometimes, okay????)

Bird hit 11 homers in 46 games in 2015...but doesn't have much power?
Jeffrey Todd
3:05
20 annually type of guy in the minors. It wouldn't be unprecedented for it to develop later, of course, but that small a sample doesn't prove it.

Who would the 26 man roster benefit more: MLBA or MLB? MLBPA seems reluctant to enact this rule due to team management potentially utilizing the platoon more frequently than they already do now thus reducing ab's for current everyday players. Your thoughts?
Jeffrey Todd
3:05
I think it'd be a pretty big benefit to the players. Seems like a reasonable move to me for both sides, though, at least unless they are really going to expand soon.

I don't want to go out and shovel out my car. Can you keep the chat going another hour?
Jeffrey Todd
3:06
I like this comment because it suggests the chat is a functional excuse.
