Thanks! They really were great, I agree. Biased, but it's true.
2:50
If you haven't read the Otani thing, you should: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/05/scouting-shohei-otani.html
2:51
He is going to be a huge story. And Chuck got that info from legit MLB people with international responsibilities. It's not like he's just grabbing some dude off the street and hyping Otani.

2:51
Do you think the Rays will trade a starting pitcher by the deadline?
Jeffrey Todd
2:51
Yes. Cobb is the obvious bet but I wouldn't be surprised to see another arm departing as well.
Anthony
2:52
I don't know if you happened to read Ben Lindbergh' s article at the Ringer on Jonathan Lucroy, but he's basically the worst framer in baseball right now. If he's really significantly below - average as a receiver, is looking at a Wieters-type fall this off-season? Essentially, any guesses on what the receiving value is worth on the market?
Jeffrey Todd
2:52
Have not read that yet but will do so.
2:53
W/r/t framing value and JohnLuc ... I think it clearly is valued quite a bit. No other way to explain Castro's contract (3/24 IIRC).
2:54
I mean Castro basically hits like - but worse than - Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who got a minor league deal over the winter. But he frames really well.
2:55
For Lucroy, you're talking about investing in an everyday backstop. If you take him from solid (once great) framer to below-average framer -- and that's what teams actually see in him -- then it's a big blow. Even if he is otherwise sturdy behind the dish and hitting.
But if he ends up in his normal range at the plate and such, he'll still get paid. Wieters didn't have the same hitting platform that Lucroy could.
2:57
Going to try to catch up here in the queue a bit ...
Sorry, someone decided to ask the same question 300 times ...
Please don't do that. I won't answer it.

Colon is struggling, would Braves consider trading him right now if say Mets picked up all salary?
Jeffrey Todd
2:58
Um, yeah, I'm sure they would. Nobody is taking all that cash though.

2:58
Cole to the Yankees what does it cost
Jeffrey Todd
2:58
Big price tag. He could be the big fish available this summer.
Totally Chipper Jones
2:59
In agreement that I am a first ballot HOF?
Jeffrey Todd
2:59
He's a clear HOFer, so he should be a first-ballot HOFer.
3:00
I hate this whole "Im gonna make you wait" idea. Now, some guys make take a few years for their case to be assessed and such. That's fine. But why hold out on someone like Jones? Put him in.
Brian Cashfan
3:00
Do you think Cashman will mostly stand pat this deadline or make a blockbuster move of big name prospects for a controllable guy like Cole?
Jeffrey Todd
3:01
To finish the other side of the question above ... I guess I wouldn't be stunned if the Yankees pursued someone like Cole if they are in contention. I mean ... why not? He's controllable. He's really good. They need controllable, really good pitching in the future. So get him now if you can.
And yes, it would cost significant prospects. And yes, I know they say they don't want to give up the future etc etc. But this wouldn't be just a win-now move.
3:02
"This" being adding Cole or another quality, controllable starter. Don't want to fixate on Gerrit.
Rangers guy
3:02
Rangers are held together by ducktape. Even with the string of wins and Beltre returning, do the Rangers move Darvish? The return could be significant.
Jeffrey Todd
3:02
They won't move Darvish if they are in contention, and shouldn't. But I'm still not super-bullish on TEX and especially don't think they will catch the Astros.
Rocky Mountain High
3:03
Which teams in your mind would fall in the gray area of being both a buyer and a seller?
Jeffrey Todd
3:04
I'm not sure when this idea of "both buying and selling" took hold, but I'm not sure I totally get the concept. I mean ... I do ... but how does a team go and beat the market -- which is putting a premium on getting current MLB contributors -- for a guy they just want for future seasons? When has this happened?
What we could see, though, is more of what the Pirates did last year in trading Melancon (and making some other deals, too). Sort of a re-shaping of assets that doesn't draw down TOO much on the MLB roster and sets the team up better for the future.

3:05
Could pairing someone like Kahnle or Swarzak with Robertson, along with paying down Robertson's salary, bring back a prospect like Carter Kieboom or Juan Soto?
Jeffrey Todd
3:06
Those things would sweeten the pot on Robertson quite a bit (assuming those other guys are still performing come July) and it would be a good way for the team to improve the return. To some extent I was assuming those sort of efforts in attributing some of the top-100 type prospect return to him in the above question.
Looking like a steal!
3:07
What's been the key to Leaks turnaround in 2017?
Jeffrey Todd
3:08
Giving up way less dingers, and hits, which means good batted ball fortune ... maybe some due to skill (he is a command artist) but probably some some just pure luck.
Remember the Roark.
Mo
3:08
Follow up on Lynn- is he in line for 100m+?
Jeffrey Todd
3:09
Seems steep. I expect he'll come back to earth and some other guys (Tillman, for example) will push up a bit ... combined with the number of strong pitchers at the top of the market, I don't know if there'll be enough demand for these second-level guys to drive a huge contract.
Rockie Idea
3:10
So suppose the Rockies swing a deal for Quintana today. Then they find he's just not near as successful at Coors as he hoped, couldn't they make him available at the deadline? Assuming he's still pitching solid when away from Coors, I don't think his trade value would be totally tanked where they couldn't recoup most of the lost value.
Jeffrey Todd
3:10
In theory, yes, you can do that. In practice? That's not happening.
3:11
It's more imaginable if it was a short-term veteran type ... like last year when the White Sox got James Shields. Suppose he had pitched well but the team fell apart. Sure, trade him on forward, that's possible.
