What is the best case scenario for the Phillies in a return for trading Tommy Joseph?
Jeffrey Todd
2:57
I mean ... it wouldn't be much of anything.

With the reports of the Astros being interested in DeGrom, does it make sense for the Mets to see what they could get for him? He'd bring back a great haul, I'd imagine.
Jeffrey Todd
2:58
Oh, and yes, the Mets should at least put some laughable price on him and let the Astros at least try to pursue it.
Andy
2:58
It's a fun game every mid-season. The Dodgers are interested in EVERYONE, but who do they actually get??
Jeffrey Todd
2:59
There's some truth to this. Friedman had an interesting comment today, saying he intends to be more choosy with the team's nice position in the division. That's interesting. Maybe they'll really target a few players rather than putting a premium on value and flexibility down the stretch?

What r the chances cubs make a move for a Jeff samardijza type for the back end of there rotation now?
Jeffrey Todd
3:00
Ehhhhh it's not like their other pitchers are out for the year. Not sure there's a real need for that.

Fish shopping Straily? Might net some much needed quantity of prospects.
Jeffrey Todd
3:00
Still think the market will be skeptical of Straily.

With Peralta gone, say Devers gets promoted next week. Does that put him on track to play with Boston in September and perhaps October?
Jeffrey Todd
3:02
It's certainly possible. Let's suppose they trade for more of a utility type (Lowrie) than a true third baseman. Or even that they get, say, Todd Frazier. Those guys could still all mix together with Devers also part of the action if he comes up and hits. Could definitely see that.

Jeffrey, what's the New York Mets' move between now and the "deadline day"?
Jeffrey Todd
3:04
I see no real reason they wouldn't just auction off Bruce, Granderson, Duda, and Reed for the best possible return. And consider deals for Blevins, Asdrubal, maybe even a few others.
3:05
Might as well take the consolation prize for a rough season and pad the farm assets. Could even get players who'd be useful for next season, or get the young assets to get such players in later trades.

Are the Cubs done after Quintana or do you think they go after a #5-fringy starter for a package built around Candelario? Maybe a guy like Jesse Hahn (OAK) or Matt Boyd (DET)?
Jeffrey Todd
3:06
Just to finish this line of dialogue ... I could see them considering a back-end starter type, but it'd likely be a cheap rental guy that doesn't cost any significant prospect capital.
3:07
Maybe someone who could also see postseason action from the bullpen. There are some familiar faces in San Diego.
Rally

Say the Angels decide to sell off rentals. What could Norris fetch from, say, the Nats?
Jeffrey Todd
3:08
Well, he has been pretty good. And teams will focus on present ability more than worrying about his past as an iffy starter. I think he could certainly bring back something of interest, though I doubt there'll be a bidding war. Plenty of other arms will be in his general category of desirability (Joe Smith, Juan Nicasio come to mind).

Who might be this year's Coco (low-cost, decent reward pickup of former Tribesman)? Heart says Rajai, especially if Austin Jackson doesn't come back.
Jeffrey Todd
3:11
Seems plausible, sure. Bear in mind that Coco came over at the very end of August. So they knew they'd be able to use him as part of an expanded roster. But generally, it makes sense for the Indians to be looking at those sorts of marginal additions in preparation for holding off the Royals/Twins and hopefully playing in the ALDS.
(Rajai Davis could also be an August mover.)

Will Hand bring back similar return as Chapman as he is under control for 2 years as opposed to a rental.
Jeffrey Todd
3:11
I wouldn't compare anyone to Aroldis. He was seen as a uniquely devastating weapon.
Joe Kerr
3:12
Bregman, Tucker and Martes for Machado, who says no?
Jeffrey Todd
3:12
That is waaaay too much for  1.4 years of Machado.

What are the chances the Astros do nothing or just get a reliever?
Jeffrey Todd
3:13
I just feel like they have to try their best to get an impact player. Chances like this don't come around all that often.
3:14
But that could be a really awesome reliever, too. I don't hate the idea of them having a few stellar long arms from the pen. I mentioned Iglesias already w/r/t the Dodgers; they could do that too.

FYI, the Quintana crew will now be known as the Robertson crew
Jeffrey Todd
3:15
It's just not the same. Sorry.
But your handle is strong.

What can Kevin Gausman bring back in a potential trade? Would he have netted Eloy alone?
Jeffrey Todd
3:16
Um, he has not been very effective this year.
(No.)
StrosFan
3:17
What happens with Matt Harvey? I think he's a good gamble for a team with a strong clubhouse and could be had for cheap. Real high risk/high reward
Jeffrey Todd
3:17
Mets are probably going to keep  the risk/reward for themselves. He won't earn that much next year anyway.
Addison Reed
3:17
Where am I traded and for what?
Jeffrey Todd
3:18
Where? Shrug. Relievers can fit anywhere. But he's their best deadline rental asset.
