Hoz isn't going to dictate that at this point, I don't think. Last reports say they want to get under 110 payroll ... they have to move salary.

I think they were probably sitting back  gather info on what they can get for different trade assets. Expect they will start dealing in near future.

After repeated signals the payroll would drop, Alderson starts saying "don't worry about that!" and suddenly reports suggest Kipnis isn't too expensive ... I don't know what to make of that.

Best model here might be the Heyward trade that netted the Braves Shelby Miller & Tyrell Jenkins. (Also that swap had Walden in it. He was a darn good reliever.) Obviously Machado is another class up, but let's not forget Heyward was a big piece at that time and also was youthful.

But ... the Piscotty deal is a sorta useful analogy. IF the Sox make a move that pushes JBJ out of the picture, THEN you can start making offers. And the Sox will probably just be looking to reload the farm unless there's some really clean fit for anothe rneed.
