Do you think there should be a rule change about the Rule 5 draft? Doesn't seem fair that the yankees get raided every year and lose talent just because they're good at scouting/developing.
Jeffrey Todd
3:17
It is absolutely fair. They have more resources to acquire and invest in young international guys. They have financial advantages in chasing minor league free agents, etc. And they still can trade those players rather than risking them to the R5 if they so choose (and as they have done).
The last point is the only one that really matters. Just sayin' w/r/t the rest.

What team will Harper play for in 2019? Ima say Nats.
Jeffrey Todd
3:19
Interesting to think ... did the Stanton deal take Yankees out and make an extension more likely? It's possible
Juan Ortega
3:19
Do you think the Rangers can pull off the Zack Greinke trade?
Jeffrey Todd
3:19
Not really no
Al Avila
3:19
What exactly is my gameplan with the Tigers over the next 2-3 seasons?
Jeffrey Todd
3:20
Trade off whatever you can and gather up as much talent as you can. Pretty straightforward.
They'll sign a few bounceback type veterans.

Did the Mets really get a "value" reliever? Also, why didn't they ever kick the tires on Tyler Chatwood? They have a lot of starters but only DeGrom is the realest thing to 200 IP (which has now been jinxed)
Jeffrey Todd
3:21
Swarzak seems to have come at a solid price.
Ian Kintzler
3:21
Is Clint Frazier's trade value still fairly high? Trading him for a SP seems like an easy idea.
Jeffrey Todd
3:21
Does seem to make sense, I agree.

Speaking of Realmuto, what if the Nats offered Wieters (but eating his contract), Bautista, AJ Cole, and a lottery ticket like Santos or Marmolejos, and took Chen to get him?
Jeffrey Todd
3:23
They'd have to give up quality young talent, I think, but the idea of taking some Chen $ should be entertained.

Whats a real price for Machado and Harper next offseason
Jeffrey Todd
3:25
Assuming they have healthy and productive but not ungodly (for them) seasons ... like say 6-ish WAR seasons ... I'd guess they'd land in the 350-400 mil range.

Is Abreu to Boston still at all possible, or did that fizzle out?
Jeffrey Todd
3:25
Seemingly fizzled but I'm sure it could arise again if other things fall through.
Danny
3:27
Do you agree with Stearns and the Brewers holding off on these lucrative, reliever contracts?
Jeffrey Todd
3:27
They seem to be in a good position to have spent a lil extra there, since it's not like these are long-term deals that have tons of risk into the future. But I'm sure they also see better uses for the funds still out there on the market and filling the rotation is still the priority.

Dont you think Joey Bats would be a great fit for us? 1B/OF
Jeffrey Todd
3:29
Not that wild given what they seem to be after.
Plus he's the kind of uber-patient bat Alderson would presumably like.
Ross Atkins
3:29
Merry Christmas Mr. Todd. I'll be making a couple of deals in the next couple weeks that will surprise.
Jeffrey Todd
3:29
I like to pretend these are real.
3:30
Appreciate the heads up and Merry Christmas to you as well.
I'm going to put up a poll so I can run to the bathroom and keep trucking ...

To cover the subjects you just couldn't hold in after this ... yes, I see what I did there; yes, I'm sorry for making such an uncouth reference; yes, I washed my hands.

Does Rafael Devers, Jackie Bradley Jr & Jason Groome ever entice the Rockies to part with Nolan Arenado?
Jeffrey Todd
3:34
Negative
3:35
I mean that's a legit package of talent and all, but ... don't see them moving Arenado. I expect extension talks.
Tehran

To the Yanks for Frazier ?
Jeffrey Todd

Sorry I am never discussing Teheran's trade candidacy again after the last two years.
Guessing AA will hold and let him build value.

In general - are you guys softening on your predictions, or do you still believe we'll see multiple six year, nine figure deals dolled out?
Jeffrey Todd
3:36
Money is still out there. Most every player to sign thus far has handily beaten expectations.
3:37
That's sort of typical, true, and could also reflect a willingness to spend on the mid-tier guys rather than the upper tiers. But ... I still feel pretty good about most of our numbers on the whole.
