GG often rewards offense, and he has to show he can hit enough in the long run to be an everyday guy. But obviously the glove is exciting.
3:49
BTW, re the worst team in 2018 ... Marlins and Tigers for me. Next up are White Sox and Royals, for me, but still some possibility those teams could have quality veterans still aboard.

Will the Davis signing increase or decrease the Rays asking price for Colome?
Jeffrey Todd
3:50
No meaningful impact

I think AJ Preller is doing a great job of reading the market, much like a few years ago with the international free agents. The Pads can't compete with the big names for next year's free agent class, but they don't have enough elite talent in the system to stand pat. Hosmer would be an influx of needed talent if they can get him. Do you see them being more aggressive if other big teams stay out this year?
Jeffrey Todd
3:51
I don't really see it as a genius move to get an elite guy now since it'd be too costly to get him next year. If Hosmer were truly elite, more teams would be chasing him and propping up his market.
3:54
That said, sure, I can see the Pads and some other teams looking to step in and achieve value on some free agents. Just ... re Hoz, I don't really get the idea of signing him with Myers going to the OF.
3:55
Sorry all, hada connection issue there

The fans here are still hating on me. I will make some signings to simmer that down won't I?
Jeffrey Todd
3:55
Yes. As noted at outset, lots of teams have lots of business left to d.

What should the Yankees do with Frazier trade or keep
Jeffrey Todd
3:56
He's a very sensible trade piece, but they don't have to do that.
3:57
Has a bit of a feel, though, that they are trying to see if they can get a good enough SP for him. Makes sense that'd be the preference after getting Stanton.

In terms of pillow contracts, how much would JD Martinez or Arrieta be “worth” on a one year deal? Is there surplus value in a one year $40 million deal?
Jeffrey Todd
3:58
For the right player, sure. Not sure either of those guys is quite to that level, even on a one-year term.
3:59
Cespy did get 3/75. Which was really 1/27.5.
Sox GM

E-Rod, Xander and a prospect for  Machado. Sounds like value going both ways?
Jeffrey Todd
4:00
That sounds like a haul for the O's for one year of Machado.

Do you see a potential fit with Arrieta and the Angels? Getting another top of the rotation arm to help in the playoffs. 5 yr 140 mil get it done?
Jeffrey Todd
4:01
Don't think Arrieta will command that much or that Angels really want to add another huge salary. Do still think they ought to look to improve the staff (perhaps pen more than rotation) and spend to do so.

Is Brad Hand too good and too cheap to trade now?  With all of this crazy money going to relievers, Hand is so valuable and the asking price is going to be so high, can you even see a team meeting the deserved asking price?
Jeffrey Todd
4:02
No, he's not even the most valuable reliever in baseball.
In terms of trade value.
4:03
He's very good and very valuable, but I don't know that much that has happened this offseason was necessary to determining that.
If anything has boosted his market, it's the Britton injury.
4:04
BTW, speaking of big one-year deals ... I stilldon't get why the O's are evidently okay giving Britton 12 mil or so for what might be half of the 2018 season.

Arrietta was in Seattle last week, says it was just a impromptu family vacation. NOBODY visits Seattle in December unless they have family here or if they live in Alaska.  What are the chances he lands with the M's.
Jeffrey Todd
4:05
In that case, surely his wife was scared off by the weather?
4:06
Hard to know how to read these kinds of signals. Maybe it reveals he was giving it a real look and perhaps meeting with the team. Doesn't mean a match is inevitable, though.
(I was joking about the undesirability of Seattle, btw. Unfortunately have never been but a Pacific NW tour is near the top of my list!)

Are the Rangers 100% committed to Mike Minor as a starter?  If so why when he’s pretty clearly the best closer they currently have
Jeffrey Todd
4:08
Well, lots of teams have guys that'd be their best closers currently working from the rotation. Nearly all of them, perhaps.
But really, seems they lured him by offering a chance to start. If that's really the case, hard to just chuck him in the pen right away.

Who is your all time favorite baseball player with two first names?
Jeffrey Todd

Allen Craig?
That's what comes to mind, ha.
Does Eddie Murray count? Should count, right? That'sa good one.

With Davis getting upwards of 17 a year over 3 years what’s Holland going to command?  2-25?
Jeffrey Todd
4:11
I think more but hard to see him topping 50 or getting 4 years when the more desirable pitcher just barely got to fifty and didn't get the 4th.
3/42?
