My oh My

Yelich and JT to the braves for Acuna, Allard, Wright and Gohara?
Jeffrey Todd
3:30
Zero chance the Braves are giving up that much high-end/near-MLB talent.
Yeli and JTR are great assets, but ...
David
3:31
Robles, Fedde, Romero, Taylor for Yelich.  Who hangs up first?
Jeffrey Todd
3:31
There is a point at which Yelich is overvalued, is what I have been trying to get at in this chat ...
Nate
3:32
Brinson and Huira for Yelich?
Jeffrey Todd
3:32
Seems closer to reality but I have gotten the feeling the Brewers really like both.
BRB gotta post this...

#Mets in agreement with Jose Reyes on one-year contract, pending physical, sources tell The Athletic. Reyes returning with understanding he will fill utility role. Mets still looking for regular second baseman.
3:35
Ok I'll try to grab a few more before checking out here. First ...

Does bringing back Reyes as a utility guy make sense for Mets?

Do you think Luke Weaver will continue his great success from last season?
Jeffrey Todd
3:37
His AAA numbers are compelling. See no reason not to be bullish.
3:38
(I mean, in addition to what he showed in MLB last year, of course.)

That article that you linked to shows three players where the teams would have loved if they would’ve opted out. And let’s say one of those three players would’ve been very good and opted out when the opportunity came. Shouldn’t the team just be happy to come out ahead in those few years? The second a player gets into his 30s they are a ticking time bomb to earn half of their contract.
Jeffrey Todd
3:39
Sure - just like a signing or trade can be well-reasoned at the time it is made, but turn out to fail. Doesn't change the valuation of the opt-out opportunity, which redounds to player's benefit.

Can confirm @Ken_Rosenthal #Mets have 1-yr deal with Jose Reyes pending physical. Hear it is about $3M
3:41
Seems a bit more than I'd have expected, but hard to guess on these low-level deals.

No one at MBTR wants to take a question about Brad Hand still being on the trade block? I've pitched the question at least 7 chats now. Thanks.

3:42
When was the last time a player was extended and then traded in the same offseason?
3:43
I'm not aware of that ever happening. Probably a good way to destroy trust with players in the future.
Anyway they should keep him after somehow getting him at that price.

I’m not opting out after ‘18 season am I?
Jeffrey Todd
3:43
Same basic reasoning as with Heyward. Even a vintage season is going to leave people wondering about long-term health and noting the advancing age.
Nate
3:43
Why you meh on Travis Shaw?
Jeffrey Todd
3:44
Not on Shaw, so much as Shaw as trade chip. I saw the thing Bowden said  about trading Shaw and signing Moustakas. It just doesn't make a lick of sense to me.

Jeffrey Todd

Maybe you should decrease yours!

(Not advocating shirking work. But hey, a job has to work for you, too, right? You're probably fortunate to have your position, so appreciate that, but live life for yourself, too!)

Will anyone sign andre ethier
Jeffrey Todd
3:46
Sure. Dodgers trusted him enough to put him on the postseason roster.
Los Doyers

If the Dodgers could build a deal for Yelich around some solid prospect centerpieces, would the Fish also want an everyday OF in return? Would Joc Pederson do the trick?
Jeffrey Todd
3:46
Someone like Joc would have value in that kind of trade, sure, but can't see how he'd bethe primary piece or anything.

There's no way the Nats let Rizzo walk, is there?
Jeffrey Todd

Can't see how, but who knows?

Priority 1: if you have to sign Hosmer, at least don't get suckered into increasing your offer beyond its current level
