A lock means if they stopped playing tomorrow, they'd be in the Hall of Fame. Not "if they continue on their current path."
Jeffrey Todd
4:11
Yeah I dont know exactly how I phrased it, but ... I started out with guys I'd put money down on. A few of the older dudes (JV, CC, Miggy) have arguably completed HOF-quality resumes, but arguably have not.
4:12
I probably shouldn't have waded into off the cuff HOF talk. At least I had the good sense not to do so during voting season.
Ichiro
4:12
Are you saying that Ichiro's MLB career on its own is not HOF worthy?  You said that his japanese career will be considered as well.
Jeffrey Todd
4:13
No I'm not saying his MLB career isn't worthy on its own. I am just operating off the cuff here ... so I was saying with the fact he played in Japan through, what, age 28? ought to make it  slam dunk.

What are the real numbers you are hearing for Harper and Machado.  Really at $300 - $400 million?
Jeffrey Todd
4:14
I'm not hearing anything, but yes I think both are in that range.
Craig Kimbrel
4:14
What are the odds that I'm wearing a Braves jersey in 2019?
Jeffrey Todd
4:15
That'd be an awfully ballsy signing. He's going to get big money at an old age for a reliever.
Odd Jeffrey T.

I am still undecided on if the giants are going to be good this year or not.... thoughts?
Jeffrey Todd
4:16
Not super optimistic.

Yadier Molina is going to be the Jack Morris of the 2020s
Jeffrey Todd
4:16
"If you were there you'd understand."
Maybe.
4:17
Then again, maybe someone will figure out new ways of measuring just how good Yadi really was and we'll suddenly be valuing him at 90 career WAR.
4:18
Couple more and I have to run ...
Tribe Fan
4:18
Who do you think the Tribe was trying to acquire from the Mets in the Kipnis deal that apparently got nixed by Mets ownership in the offseason or was it purely a salary dump?
Jeffrey Todd
4:18
My pet theory is it was a salary dump that was going to free them to re-sign Santana. He ended up going to the Phils like a day after the Kipnis deal fell apart.

You cant be serious that Miguel Cabrera will be "debated"!? Other than where he stacks up in the pantheon of greatest ever hitters, theres nothing to debate.
Jeffrey Todd

I'm never talking about the Hall again.
But yeah I probably set my bar a little bit high.

Will 15 hrs and 10 wins give Ohtani the ROY?
Jeffrey Todd
4:23
Yeah he has a pretty clear path to a ROY. But I was cracking up at the Bovada odds placing him like 5:2 as the AL MVP.
McCarthy
4:24
If I continue pitching well (and remain healthy), what am I worth to a team needing a back-end starter?
Jeffrey Todd
4:24
Velo is down and he's not getting a lot of swings and misses. Also not a cheap contract. He's got a ways to go to establish real value.
Kurt
4:25
The best SP traded at the deadline is...?  What offer makes him a Brewer?
Jeffrey Todd
4:25
Archer?
Not going to guess at returns right now, though.
Joe
4:26
At what point do we consider a team "for real?"
Jeffrey Todd
4:26
Not just a certain point of the season. Have to look beneath the hood.
Think back to some teams that have maintained good or bad starts for like eighty or even a hundred games and then snapped back to reality.

Where did Kaleb Cowart go?
Jeffrey Todd
4:28
A beautiful, peaceful farm in the country where they play baseball very well all day long.
No, we can't go see him there it's too far away.

It seems like Harper and Machado (and really most superstar) values are driven more by media inflation than actual market forces. What do you think?
Jeffrey Todd
4:29
Have a hard time believing that.
4:30
I mean, teams will value star power as a gate attraction, but the idea that good or bad press coverage in the immediate aftermath of a signing would dictate a move?
I mean these guys are going to sign for a decade or more. I think teams will be judged by the results of the decisions.
