To be clear, for those that are confused ... the question is whether a team will offer enough to make it worth it to the Jays, who could otherwise presumably make a qualifying offer and get a pick back if JD declines.
4:16
Man, I don't see how he's traded in July. He's not going to have any time to show he's at fully health  ... at most maybe he'll have started a rehab assignment, I believe.
Donaldson could well be an August trade piece, though. Maybe they will run him through waivers at the beginning of the month and hope he returns to generate value.
4:17
At this point, we can't be sure he'll end up rejecting a qualifying offer, it should be noted.

Do you get the sense that Machado will agree to be traded to a team that will use him at 3rd?  I thought he was insistent about being a SS.
Jeffrey Todd
4:17
Not his choice.
Michael
4:18
Does Michael Fulmer get moved and if so, does he command 2 in a farms top 10?
Jeffrey Todd
4:19
I'm not really bullish on him being dealt. But if he is, it'll have to be b/c there's a really nice offer -- so, yes, at a bare minimum, 2 of an org's top 10 type of guys -- or the Tigers will just hold.

what is the market for Choo at the moment?
Larry
4:20
What can my rays realistically get for Nathan Eovaldi ? Who would be interested in him?
Jeffrey Todd
4:21
Definitely possible. He might be most interesting as a guy who'd work from the rotation down the stretch and then move into a multi-inning relief role for the postseason.
Oh, whoops, I guess I had another question in there ... think I mis-clicked it.
But let's go for it.
4:22
Choo ... I mean, the Rangers will be looking to save some money. He's just too expensive. He's hitting very well, but almost 35 and hasn't been consistent/durable the past few years. That'll be factored in.
4:23
Haven't looked closely, but he's mostly going to appeal to AL teams, and there are very few real buyers on that side ... only a few that might really want a DH/part-time OF type. Maybe the M's, as we discussed above, but again this is going to be a situation where the Rangers are paying down a lot of the contract.

My team is under-performing!  Big splash or shoot for the WC with some moderate deadline moves?
Jeffrey Todd
4:25
Cardinals fans are hard for me to understand. I get that you want the club to be in first place, but they are right in the thick of things despite having weathered some injury problems.
4:26
I think they'll certainly explore mid-season upgrades, possibly significant ones, but I don't think that's going to be driven by a sense of desperation. It'll be a sense of "hey, we do have a good team that really can contend." I think they are performing right to expectations, and that they will remain in the race more or less to the end. But it's going to be a tough go in this division ... even the WC will be a fight.

Any sense in the Reds putting a prospect package together for Noah Syndergaard, gotta get a front line starter somehow? Thanks
Jeffrey Todd
4:28
They need so many pieces still. Doesn't help that Senzel just went down. But ... Thor is controllable. If he's seriously dangled, his value will be discounted a bit by his recent injury issues. So, sure, they ought to poke around at least.
4:29
As usual, though, this idea of non-contenders getting in on long-term pieces at the deadline rarely comes to anything. That's b/c when those types of players really are put on the block, contenders are generally willing to pay an extra premium for the chance to have them right now.

Can the Pirates turn it around?
Jeffrey Todd
4:30
Not optimistic

Given your thoughts on Dietrich and Gennet where does Whit Merrifield rate in relation value wise? Better defender than either at multiple positions and solid offensively.
Jeffrey Todd
4:32
Whit has less offensive upside but is a better-rounded player whose versatility would make him fit on just about any roster in baseball. He's a cheaper, somewhat better-hitting version of Josh Harrison at this point.
Not to say he's clearly more valuable than the other two -- Gennett has just kept swinging it and certainly has real value -- but Merrifield has a broader potential market, I guess.
4:34
Okay somehow those questions are going straight into the form. Weird. Thankfully "chris" seems to be a straight shooter.

Is there an upgrade at 1st base available for th NYY? How about Justin Smoak
Jeffrey Todd
4:34
Loads of possibilities. Spend the next month canvassing and evaluating Bird and thinking up possible combinations, then decide.
Ed McWilliams
4:35
How much are you buying the reports of the Mets listening on degrom and Noah
Jeffrey Todd
4:36
Their acting GM said as much, so I'm buying it. I think deGrom is the more likely one to move.
Austin

What would Treinen fetch from Atlanta?
Jeffrey Todd
4:37
As of this immediate moment, the A's are the team best positioned to chase down the Mariners for a wild card spot. So I don't think he's available.
Fred

Is Lance Lynn building trade value by pitching better since April?
Jeffrey Todd
4:37
Sure, but you'd be looking at cost savings, realistically.
Michael
4:38
Is Matt Harvey to NYY a real possibility?
Jeffrey Todd
4:38
Expect them to aim much higher.
Rocco Rox
4:38
is it time to hit the "sell" button on the ROX? i'm sure Otto & Parra would get something decent in return maybe Cargo & DJ as well....they are on pace to win 77
Jeffrey Todd
4:40
Not yet. Outside of Ottavino, their rental pieces are not that exciting. Those hitters are all below-average bats when you account for park effects.
