Think the scales tipped a little while ago. They really can't hope to catch the Indians.
Might keep plugging if the WC wasn't such a reach this year. But alas.

Any thing on what my Phillies are looking to do?
Jeffrey Todd
4:00
Not specifics, but wouldn't put it past them to go big. I think if any team has potential to surprise, that's the one. They can put their deep pocketbooks to work, deal young MLB/near-MLB talent, etc. If the Nats remain in a hole and it's ATL-PHI to duke it out ... why not go ahead and push the pedal down now?
4:01
Braves do have potential to do something big, too, but there's no way they have the same flexibility as the Phils to add salary -- which could be the primary players targeted or bad contracts, to be clear. Lots of creative possibilities for both orgs.
BREAKING
Melky back to Indians
New minor league deal.
Okay maybe "BREAKING" was a bit strong : )

I literally have the potential to be Mike Trout. But the Reds already have 4 OFs. When will I be able to play?
Jeffrey Todd
4:02
I'm sorry, what?
4:03
That seems a smidge optimistic. But I'm sure if he shows himself ready for a shot, the Reds will find a way to make some room. Don't see Billy Hamilton blocking Trout Jr.

With the roster crunch for the Padres 40 man for the rule 5 draft, do you see the Padres being a sneaky buyer at the deadline?
Jeffrey Todd
4:06
Not really, just bc there are always a few guys that are more marginal than people really want to admit. And dealing away excess inventory when there are other, more motivated buyers means taking a value discount.
4:07
I do get what you're saying and all, it's just ... probably harder to execute in practice. Other teams also have to manage 40-man rosters and so will be relatively less interested in the guys on the margins of the Padres' 40.
(Or the guys who'll need to be added there this fall.)

Starting pitcher, relief pitcher or first baseman: what's the most important chip for me to pursue?

Pickle Rick!

What does a reasonable package for the Braves look like for the mouskraken?  Or is their best policy to hold now that Camargo is lighting it up?
Jeffrey Todd
4:08
See above. Why not add Moose and then let Camargo spend time at third and short? Not saying that's the move they should make, specifically, but it's worth considering and should be seen in that sort of manner.

I see Manny as a big risk. What manager will put up with his chronic lack of hustle? He's been a real embarrassment to the fans of Baltimore!
Jeffrey Todd
4:09
He's producing huge numbers and surely will want to put his best foot forward with free agency coming.
Dwight

Does Jonathan Schoop have any trade value?
Jeffrey Todd
4:09
Yeah but he doesn't seem like a deadline guy to me.

Everyone seems to consider the reds to be sellers. I think other than Harvey they stand pat or possibly even look for unconventional ways to add. Am I crazy?
Jeffrey Todd
4:12
No, I think that's possible. The "unconventional ways to add," though, would be for future purposes.
Can't be buying in hopes of chasing down a postseason spot this year, that is.

The Dodgers Front Office always think they are smarter then everyone with their obscure pick ups, can they let down for once and go get Machado?
Jeffrey Todd
4:12
Did they not trade for Yu Darvish last year?
4:13
And so long as they keep finding Turners and Taylors and Muncies ....

Earlier question had Fulmer lumped in with DeGrom and and Thor.  How can any sane baseball person think Fulmer is equivalent to the other two??
Jeffrey Todd
4:14
Well, I took the question as asking about talented, established pitchers with control. In that sense, they are all in the same general bucket. Their teams don't need to trade them and they'd hold appeal to contenders.
But I agree he's not on their level, for sure.

Let’s keep in mind Houston has an elite bullpen arm in Forrest Whitley just hanging around in AA because their rotation is too good.
Jeffrey Todd
4:15
They also have a quality extra starter -- Collin McHugh -- camped out in their bullpen. Where he has been one of the best relievers in baseball.
4:16
Couple more and I have to be moving on ...

Is copying my question and then rapidly control V'ing it in more likely, less likely, or about the same to get it answered?
Jeffrey Todd
4:16
Less, out of spite
(reasonable spite ... that makes it hard to run a chat, which is already really tough to do with so many questions)

O’s package Machado with Britton? Where is the right place and return?
