I have a feeling that the Jays might trade Stroman this winter. What teams do you think would be interested and what kind of package might they get for him?  Perhaps to the Braves for Sirotka and mid-level prospect?
Jeffrey Todd
3:57
You mean Soroka, I assume. Need to readjust expectations on Stroman's current trade value. That kind of a promising MLB level pitcher isn't coming in return.
Could imagine them shopping him, sure, but hard to sell low when you have time to let him try to work out of it.

do youthink boston will work on a new  deal for jd martinze
Jeffrey Todd
3:59
Not really. If he plays well enough to opt out, then they can work it out then.

WELL BE READY TO BE SURPRISED BECAUSE AA has already stated numerous times hes going hard after machado this offseason
Jeffrey Todd

He has stated numerous times he wants to sign a player currently under contract with another organization? I don't think so.

Thanks for these chats, Jeff! Thoughts on Andy Green - Wil Myers issue? Also who would you trade for an ace?
Jeffrey Todd
4:01
You're welcome!
4:02
I honestly don't think that's a huge deal in the baseball context. It's a veteran griping about having to work on fundamentals in the middle of a long season. He didn't say anything THAT bad and seemed to handle it well after. I dont' think it'll linger.
4:03
As for tradin' for an ace ... if you really mean an ace ... then that means lining up top, top prospects/young MLB players. Sale, for instance, cost two top-line prospects and then some.
4:04
Frankly, though, I'm not sure what pitchers who'd meet the "ace" label will even potentially be available. Unless Mets decide to blow things up under a new front office, I guess.

Thanks for having my back

WOW Shohei thanks for participating in the chat!!!
You guys see that? Ohtani-san is in the house!
Ha.
4:08
But seriously, if you were a MLB player and you were just checking MLBTR one day and saw the chat up ... wouldn't you want to mess with people by actually participating under your real name? Why not give it a shot?

Is Odubel on the block now?
Jeffrey Todd
4:09
Could definitely imagine that happening this winter. Not that it's a certainty, but it's very plausible. Plenty of teams would like to have that contract.

What are the odds of shedding prado and chen  next season for marlins
Jeffrey Todd
4:11
Very very low.
4:12
They might drop one or both from MLB roster, but there's zero hope of moving any of their remaining commitments unless/until they show they are useful MLB players again.

Detroit sportswriters are already preparing Tigers fans for a worse club in 2019.   Do you agree?   With a healthy Cabrera and Fulmer, doesn't that bode well for a better (tho probably sub-.500) season?
Jeffrey Todd
4:14
I haven't examined this in any detail, but I tend to think it'll be about the same as this year. Hard to know, though, how they'll go about filling some of the openings. Will they go really cheap and young or spend a bit?
4:15
Also depends how hard they push young pitching and how it responds.

Is there anyone not signed right now that could help a contender?

If Ohtani somehow got a full year worth of at bats next year, predict the # of HR's and OPS he puts up.
Jeffrey Todd
4:17
Well that'd mean more exposure to lefties. And maybe he's still in for some regression. But I don't see why he couldn't be a 30-dinger, well-above-average hitter based on what we've seen.
4:18
Maybe you have to build in some upside, too, for actually getting to focus exclusively on hitting.

Do you think a team would take on Shark's contract if the G's paired him with a prospect like Hjelle?
Jeffrey Todd
4:19
Did you apply for the open writing job? B/c we just proposed this hypothetical as part of that process, ha.
4:20
We had it as Ramos and Hjelle though ... not saying the Giants would really do that, but $36MM of salary is too much to take on for Hjelle alone. And how much can you really say Shark would get in FA right now? Like 1/10-12 maybe?

Is Machado getting more than 300 million? I bet a friend he would. How is it looking?

You win.

RE:  JD Martinez..    He's already playing well enough to opt out, don't you think?
Jeffrey Todd
4:21
The opt-out opps come after 2019/20. So they'd be doing it a whole year early if we're talking about the upcoming offseason.
