My guess is the Marlins will run an auction for JTR and see if they can get something absurd back for him. I won't even guess what it'll take, b/c it'll be a true bidding scenario.

It's just so hard to find a catcher like that. His value is very, very high.

Not seeing a Bellinger trade.

Certainly not on the reasoning of "eh we don't really need this guy anymore." Stroman has value, but it is well off.

Does Harper signing with Seattle make any sense? Close to home, low pressure, city would love him forever if he lead us to the postseason. Combined with Haniger, Segura, Cano, Diaz, Gordon and Paxton we could have a good nucleus to build from.

They already have a huge amount committed as compared to their typical payroll, perhaps more than any other team in baseball in relative terms. (Haven't checked that, just guessing.)

So ... is it a "screw it what's another 40 mil and another looooong Cano-esque contract" situation or "heck no we can't do that"? I guess the latter.

I think we have to expect slightly above-average production. Super exciting guy at times but has yet to show he's capable of sustaining high-end numbers with the bat. Either way, he's a very valuable player.

I think he's a very valuable player after 2 seasons of this. Not even arb eligible yet. That more than offsets concern with his age.

That said, the Mets have their own late bloomer and the Rox have some prospects coming along. I'd look elsewhere ... esp teams that really value versatility.
