Moooooooose
Why stop there? Alcides Escobar is also available.
Actually Moustakas probably isn't wholly improbable. Not that I think they necessarily ought to do that. But he'd be a guy they might shrug and give a decent salary to over 2 years.

Billy Hamilton for Sonny Gray.....who says no?
Jeffrey Todd
3:50
Bob Castellini?
I actually sort of like that idea, though. Wonder if the Yankees wouldn't really love Hamilton. What an outfield of extremes.
3:51
There'll be pretty good interest in Gray, of course. Nobody will go wild for him, but plenty of teams will surely be willing to talk about this kind of a move. At some point, though, the Yanks might just prefer lotto ticket, non-40-man prospects.

Rumor has it Harper is looking for a minimum of 10/$350. Think he'll get it?
Jeffrey Todd
3:53
I read the article that suggested that. It says the bidding will begin at that rate. So ... you mean to tell me that Boras is going to teams and saying, "the bidding starts at 10/350"?
No, he is not.
3:54
He will be going and saying, "here is a 12" thick binder that explains why BRYCE is a once-in-a-generation superstar who is a bargain -- a bargain, I tell you -- at 15 years and $550 million"
And yes, I think he'll top 350. But it's not a sure thing.

Do you see it as a (semi legit) possibility that harper winds up with the Cubs?
Jeffrey Todd
3:55
Yes I think that's plausible.

When and what is your best guess of what the final outcome of the Nationals and Orioles fight over the MASN will deal will be
Jeffrey Todd
3:56
It is going back to arbitration (with a panel of MLB owners) relatively soon, IIRC. I predict the award will be relatively similar to the original one and the process will be done without silly flaws this time and the Orioles will again challenge it in court but this time will lose.
Perhaps at some point in there, the sides will finally settle b/c the legal bills are running up and the Nats need to get their hands on the money at some point.

How do the Indians keep Donaldson?
Jeffrey Todd
3:57
Give him lots of money.
3:58
I mean, we all know he isn't going to be getting a hundred mil this winter. So in theory they can do it.
But look at their payroll and it feels pretty questionable, b/c Donaldson is going to get a big sum for at least one year. The Indians have a lot of money on the books already relative to their history.

Interested as to how you guys get your insight regarding your answers?  Just pure speculation and "I think" mode?
Jeffrey Todd
3:59
Usually I answer questions that I have some kind of perspective on already. Since I spend way too many hours each week reading about and thinking about and writing about this stuff, I have thoughts on most of these topics.
I could make this much spicier but going all talk-radio-hot-take on things, but I just can't get myself to do it. Hate that trash.

Is Luke Voit a half season wonder or is he for real?
Jeffrey Todd

HE'S A BUM
Oh, sorry.
4:01
I think he's probably a reasonably above average bat at a minimum. But man, he never hit for that kind of power in the minors. It wouldn't be unprecedented but you have to have some skepticism. And I don't know that the Yanks can afford to just hand him the 1B job.
Certainly he has to be on the roster, unless there's some great trade opportunity.

Which pitcher would you rather sign, Keuchel or Corbin?
Jeffrey Todd
4:02
Depends a bit what you are after but Corbin had a really impressive season and is a fair sight younger.

Andrew Miller to the Cubs. Write it down. Bet the farm. Call it good. Be the ball. Use the force. Put it on Underhill.
Jeffrey Todd
4:05
It's not a bad theory but it has a big flaw ... Miller took less $$$ from NYY b/c they trained in Florida, near his home. He's a family guy. Now he has banked even more money and is 4 years closer to retirement. I think that'll be a factor again and I wonder if he'll even prefer a team that plays in or near Florida. If so, advantage Braves and Rays.

Is there any single player you would trade Mike Trout for? If not, doesn't that make him the best player in baseball?
Jeffrey Todd
4:06
It is eminently arguable that he is not the most valuable player in baseball b/c there are only 2 years left on his contract and it is expensive.
4:07
It is inarguable that he is the best player in baseball.

WHAT
4:08
And he just had his best season as a hitter, at least. Unreal.
