*giving indications
3:54
Point is: it's not a bad time to strike in that division, is it? With a little bad luck, the Indians might be vulnerable. And who's going to be the team to push them? It's wide open.
Yep
3:55
Holliday to whitesox?
Jeffrey Todd
3:55
Sure, why not? If they want to spend a little more, go get Cruz. But you could see the merit of Holliday as a part of the picture if they actually land a FA or two.
3:56
I temper all this with ... that rotation, man, the peripherals were really terrifying, even for the guys who got results last year (Rodon, Lopez). Obviously lots of guys with big talent reputations, but it is not super promising in the near term unless there are some real developments.

What would a good package be from the Cubs in exchange for Segura and Diaz?
Jeffrey Todd
3:59
I mean ... I don't even know what they could offer to line that up, unless they were also taking on money from another contract (as the Cubs seem disinclined to do). Diaz is extremely valuable, especially on a trade market that features no other controllable ace closers.

Any chance we get Jon grey for an reed and jd Davis I saw it in a cbs article but don’t believe it
Jeffrey Todd
4:02
No, I don't think that sounds very plausible at all. Both of those guys could still be seen as interesting players to take a shot on, but the Rockies are not unaware of the fact that Grey has done a lot of very impressive things, even if his ERA doesn't always match. He's way too valuable for that kind of package, particularly from a team that is contending. I really don't understand the idea at all, honestly.
A's 2019 Playoffs
4:03
Who do we need?
Jeffrey Todd
4:03
Like three starters.
I'm not trying to put a damper on things - amazing season - but they can't really hope to find those kinds of results for pennies on the dollar again.

Per your Top 50, why have the Giants sign Pollock of Brantley? Giants need LF over CF with Duggar already there
Jeffrey Todd
4:07
Just because the old front office loved Duggar doesn't mean the new one will, or that he'll work out. Seems a really solid young player, for sure, but he's not exactly an established star. Pollock is a guy you can use in CF or in a corner, esp in a spacious park, and he's younger than Brantley. Also, Brantley's already questionable in the power dept ... this is pure guesswork, since I haven't looked, but you wonder how his spray chart would play at AT&T.
4:08
Well, the good news is I'm going to try to chat a bit longer.
Bad news is I'm through about 7 minutes worth of your questions ... sorry, lots coming in!
(That's me scanning through and answering the ones that stand out.)

Any idea what a Russell Martin to Mets trade would look like? If the Jays eat, say, half the salary, what sort of piece goes the other way?
Jeffrey Todd
4:11
I have wondered about Martin, but ... the dude has not stayed on the field or hit much in the past two years, and he's very expensive. I really don't see a scenario where they get a "piece" out of him for his age-36 season, even if they are eating a lot of money.

Nelson Cruz is destined to sign with Houston. They need him and he needs them for a ring!
Jeffrey Todd
4:11
We had Cruz going to HOU for quite a while in our top-50 FA deliberations.
4:12
Agree it's a good fit.

To even start a convo about an extension with Trout, $45m AAV/ 10 yrs, opt out after 3 yrs maybe?
Jeffrey Todd
4:12
Seems like a good starting point.

What is the difference between GM and head of baseball opperations? I mean, who dictates the roster and transactions?
Jeffrey Todd
4:13
You can basically assume that "president of baseball operations" is what used to be meant by "GM." It's a bit of a game that an increasing number of teams play.
4:14
Really, every front office is structured a bit differently. In some cases, perhaps, the "GM" has more authority than others. In some situations there are multiple assistant GMs to one GM, etc. Just have to look at each individually.

What is the latest on this supposed "strong offer" we made for Realmuto?
Jeffrey Todd
4:15
Several reporters shot down that it happened.

Where do you see Jed Lowrie ending up--back with the A's?  Thanks for the chat.
Jeffrey Todd
4:17
Well, he just changed agents, which at least could open the door further to other possibilities. Hard to guess, honestly, b/c it really depends quite a bit on what he wants most. Does he care about staying there, geography, total guarantee? It's not hard to imagine another team offering more money.
4:18
Then again, the A's obviously really like him since they acquired him and stuck with him him through struggles.

There is absolutely no chance the Dodgers stay under $185 Million in each of the next four years, right?
Jeffrey Todd
4:19
I'm not sure why they would.

Ottavino the most underrated FA?
Jeffrey Todd
4:20
Depends on where you're looking, I guess. General baseball watching public probably doesn't realize that he was really, really good last year.
Of course, even somewhat attentive fans seem to think Grandal is worth peanuts. So ... he might have my vote.
Adam Goldberg
4:21
Mets sign Robertson to close, Ottavino and find a lefty bullpen arm. Then sign Grandal, and Marwin Gonzalez. Is that enough to contend with SP and current bats? I really can't see the Mets in on Harper or Machado.
Jeffrey Todd

I am not sure I seem them just tacking 50 mil of salary on the books.
