The Royals should take on a bad contract in addition to a competitive balance draft pick, thoughts?
Jeffrey Todd
3:45
They were moving guys to offload bad contracts this winter. And then spent a bit on FAs. Think they have to get their payroll down.

3:46
What would it take to get DeGrom? Is Frazier, Adams, Wade enough?
Jeffrey Todd
3:46
Dude no
Al
3:46
How do you think the White Sox rebuild is going so far? They look pretty bad so far I think
Jeffrey Todd
3:47
The MLB roster is going to be bad this year, so that's not the focus. Overall, there are ups and downs with the development. That's to be expected. But they have largely placed their bets already. Now the focus is on getting the young guys to the bigs and getting them successful
3:48
Oof, Carlos Mrtinez to the DL.
3:49
I'm going to get that on the site quick ... brb
Tim
3:51
Is Hellickson back or should the Nationals still worry about a 5th
Jeffrey Todd
3:52
He's certainly just fine for now. It'd be foolish to expect him to keep this up, but they have to be thrilled at what they are getting. Still have to weigh a SP add at the deadline, though the Nats do always have the option of piggybacking Gio and Roark in a short series, especially.

If the Phillies see themselves in playoff contention at the trade deadline, is there any chance they go out and get a more established starter/or big bat to round out their roster?
Jeffrey Todd
3:54
Could imagine them in on rental types if the prospect cost isn't too high, or if they can get a useful player mostly for taking on salary. Otherwise, maybe they'll consider giving up talent to get controllable pieces.
Phils will also surely be identifying some 40-man pressures that may free up some young talent for trade.
James Franco

How much has Wilson Ramos improved his trade value the past few weeks? Enough for an org's top 5?
Jeffrey Todd
3:56
It's never terribly fruitful to talk about organizational rankings that way, because they all vary quite a bit. So, I dont know how to answer that part.
3:57
As to Ramos's trade value, though, yeah -- he's hitting and looking much like the guy who was one of the better catchers in baseball in 2016. Of course, he's older (still not terribly old) and a pure rental, so he isn't likely to bring a massive return.
Catching market is going to be interesting this year because so many teams do or could have openings. I took an initial look at it here: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/05/trade-candidate-j-t-realmuto.ht...

The White Sox AAA team is 5 games under .500 and AA is only one game over.  Does that mean the farm system isn't as good as the ranking?
Jeffrey Todd
3:58
Nah

Archer to Milwaukee for local kid Brett Phillips and other prospects?
Jeffrey Todd
3:59
Don't think Phillips is a headliner in an Archer deal

You think the Diamondbacks (snakes in the desert) are okay with they players they have and injured players they have? Maybe look around for some help? Pitchers or bats? Or a mix?
Jeffrey Todd
4:01
I'm sure they, like many other teams, wish they had a few additional players. But hard to complain about the results. Thing is, it's still hard to know what their chief needs will be. Is the rotation going to look strong and healthy come July? Could even have Shelby Miller back in that mix. Bullpen has been great but can that really be sustained? Middle infield could be chief need.
4:02
In some cases, we can tell where a need likely will be. For Arizona, it's middle infield and pitching, but exactly what will be most pressing is really not clear.

Jeff, why would you refer to it as "The Dane Dunning Trade", I'm doing pretty darn well every 5 days for the Sox.
Jeffrey Todd

Feels BABIPy

There is talk about Peter Alonzo headlining realmuto deal with Mets. I'd rather shoot the moon and get sal perez. He is the Latin Gary carter. 270/28/88 and drops team era by a run per. Thoughts? He's due 4/44
Jeffrey Todd
4:05
I mean, I would be sort of surprised if Alonso headlines a Realmuto deal. And good luck getting the Royals to part with Salvy. I just don't know that this is a realistic appraisal of where things are headed for the Mets catching situation.
Ross Atkins
4:05
Should I trade Osuna? What can I get for him now?
Jeffrey Todd
4:05
There's zero chance that happens right now.
Bill
4:06
The Braves with Ryan Flaherty were  doing so well why change to Bautista?
Jeffrey Todd
4:06
Well, Flaherty was never going to keep that up. The idea that adding Bautista would somehow destroy team chemistry seems silly. There's tons of turnover on every roster every year.
4:07
Of course, it's also inevitable that if the Braves fade, it'll all be blamed on the Joey Bats decision.
Elon's Musk
4:07
Should the braves consider selling high on Teheran? I don't trust that he'll keep this up, and there are at least a couple young guys who could/would/should take his place.
Jeffrey Todd
4:07
Other teams are aware of the velo drop and are surely wary.
So I don't think there's a real sell-high opportunity there.
4:08
Also you're sort of discounting how hard it is to be a reliably useful MLB starter. How many guys show promise but can't do it day-in, day-out?
Jared
4:08
What kind of return would Adam Jones Bring?
Jeffrey Todd
4:08
Maybe save some of what he's owed this year?
Hand for Soto
4:11
Padres don't need another OF.  Hand needs to bring back SPs, or a 3B.
