Are the Indians in trouble now with the klueber Injury.
Jeffrey Todd
4:22
Yes. Division is far from a sure thing.

If Josh Donaldson had calf transplants from someone like Billy Hamilton, would he be fast?
Jeffrey Todd
4:23
I'm not a doctor.
But no.

I read in the winter that the White Sox had fine prospects for the outfield and pitching staff. What happened? The outfield & pitching look like crap.
Jeffrey Todd
4:24
Not sure what you were reading, but the White Sox looked quite dodgy in both areas. They obviously had/have some guys they want to test out, and perhaps it has gone worse than anticipated, but I'm not surprised to see issues in both areas.
4:26
I would recommend feeling pleased with the Anderson/Moncada performances rather than bummed with the outfield, btw.

Could you explain the idea of prorated contracts?  Like if Kimbrel signs a prorated contract for $20 million for the season, but since he only pitches half of it, he only gets $10 million.  So why not just call it a $10 million deal if he won't be able to pitch the first half?
Jeffrey Todd
4:27
Agents want to characterize it as a $X million deal that's prorated and some reporters are willing to put it in the way they want.
4:28
We try not to go for that sort of thing and just put things the way they are. If it's $x million for half a season, then that's what it is. It's also relevant that a guy only has to play half the year, but he also sacrificed a big chunk of his earning power.

Who should be more upset at their front office right now for their lack of work in the offseason, Atlanta or Cleveland?
Jeffrey Todd
4:31
I've been critical of both, but it was always more questionable for the Indians to sit on a low salary and hope it worked out. The Braves at least have gobs of talent in the upper levels that they have legit reasons to try leaning on in the majors rather than signing veterans.
METS
4:31
Not a Met fan, but this team is 1 game over 500 and their pitching has been AWFUL. If it starts to click and they stay hot with the bats, could you seem them in the WS considering the NL is not stacked with high end teams like the AL?
Jeffrey Todd
4:31
"If it starts to click and they stay hot with the bats"
4:33
There's no reason to presume regression in one case and not the other. There are some reasons for a bit more optimism now than when the season started. But I haven't changed my own perception of the team too much. It's going to be a dog fight in the NL east and central divisions.

Will the Jays trade with the Braves ... I read they won't trade with me... err them
Jeffrey Todd
4:33
I'd be pretty surprised if those teams just wrote one another off as trade partners. Can't afford to do that over personal beef.

Our most uncertain roster piece was our SP, but our staff as a whole is in the top 10 of almost every category. Do we still add a starter and what hitter would upgrade our middling offense?
Jeffrey Todd
4:36
Let's see how that plays out a while longer. The new guys have had some advantage of not being picked apart by MLB scouts and analytic departments. You can be sure that assessment is happening right now. And they have innings limitations to consider.

So, Robert Stephenson is finally becoming a quality major leaguer... As a reliever.  Do you think the Reds keep him as a reliever for the long term, flip him, or still try to groom him as a starter, or do you think this will be more or less his role for the rest of his tenure in Cincinnati?
Jeffrey Todd
4:37
A guy with his rocky road ... you find a place where he fits and adds value, I think you keep him there.
E Z P Z

Hey Jeff, E Z P Z here!  So, I must have missed it.  When did MLB change player status from DL to IL?  MLB becoming more PC?
Jeffrey Todd
4:38
I'm only taking this one because this issue makes my blood boil.
4:39
It's simple: groups that work with disabled children approached MLB. Maybe the changed usage of the term is such that continuing to label it the "disabled list" might send the wrong message to youngsters who are being taught they don't need to be held back by their physical or mental disability.
Since nobody could possible care (right? RIGHT?!) MLB said "sure, why not make this easy change in a quiet manner."
And ye t...

I haven't commented on this website in a long time due to the hostile and often inane community. Are there going to be any steps to reform the behavior or do I look elsewhere for healthy interaction about our beloved sport?
Jeffrey Todd
4:41
Well we do our best, be assured of that. We are trying to crack down on people just creating board drama. But other than deleting comments/commenters we don't like, there's not much that can be done to isolate the good debate from the eye-rolling stuff. The internet is a cess pool, alas.
Couple more and I have to run ...

Are the Tigers actually being hurt by Mize's rapid success as their possible 'window' of contention is still a few years away?
Jeffrey Todd
4:42
No, I think it benefits them if he is as awesome as had been hoped.

Gattis should be in the KBO RN. Im sure he could hit 80 homers there. Would be a heck of a time to see.
Jeffrey Todd
4:43
This would be far preferable to him not playing, for sure.

Wait a sec - isn’t Denard Span still out there?  He’s def better than a good number of OFers who are currently in the bigs, no?  Why doesn’t some team throw like $2-3 mil at him, when Brett Gardner signed for $7MM after a worse season?
Jeffrey Todd
4:45
He is. That's even harder to understand than Gattis. Dude can still hit and play the corner OF well enough to be a very useful MLB player.

What ever happened to Billy Butler?

If you pretend you don't like it they will.  That's how my son became a Cardinals fan in Chicago.

This is a good point.
