The Jays have surprised fans and analysts by actually landing Ryu - what do you think the chances are they make a similar splash via the trade market to address CF??? With their young talent and other pieces they added this offseason, they are positioned move up the AL east standings fast, or at least it seems.
Mark P
10:25
The Jays still seem to have an overload of CF/RF options, none of them particularly ideal.  (I'm assuming Gurriel has LF on lock.)  Moving two of the glut for a proper center fielder would be preferable than having Hernandez or Grichuk out there
10:26
Wow, that Wil Myers poll is very tight, almost perfectly 50-50

LSU or Clemson?
Mark P
10:26
Hard to pick against LSU after that demolition of Oklahoma

10:27
Dbacks done adding? If not who should be the main target? Can they afford Castellanos? Will they trade Ray? Should they for that matter? And who are you NL and AL wild card teams as it standa right now?
Mark P
10:28
I don't think they have space for Castellanos after landing Calhoun.  I'd only deal Ray if I get a great offer...otherwise, I keep him since I'm not in love with Arizona's SP depth.

Market for Joey votto?
Mark P
10:29
Next to nothing.  He's owed a fortune and his power dropoff over the last two years is a major concern
Andrew
10:30
What do you think about a Price for Wil Myers swap?
Mark P
10:31
I feel like this trade is proposed in almost every chat!  I'll say it again....Myers did so little in 2019 that if I'm Boston (or any other team), I'd pass, even for the sake of unloading Price's deal.  Don't forget, the Red Sox are still trying to win in 2020, payroll slicing notwithstanding.  I'm not sure Myers is a step in that direction, unless they think they can fix him
Brodie
10:32
Mark, you said you think I have one big trade left in me, but I am thinking of two. How about Matz, Lowrie, Smith and Gimenez to Red Sox for Mookie. (Fills three needs of theirs, and they shed $10 MM). And then JD Davis, Rosario, Gsellman and Junior Santos to Cleveland for Lindor. Do I need to add further to either package?
Mark P
10:33
Cleveland would want way more for Lindor, and Boston would want way more for Betts

10:33
are there ramifications for other players if Kris Bryant wins his grievance case? Would other players who were sent out to save service time be automatically adjusted?
Mark P
10:34
A ruling in favor of Bryant would have major implications around baseball, which is probably why the arbitrator is taking so long --- he wants to be thorough in fully accessing a decision that would create such an impact
This all being said, the expectation is that the Cubs will win the grievance

What happened to San Diego and Anahiem landing top notch starters? Cant believe SD is not cashing in some of that prospect capital for proven players. Preller should know his job is on the line
Mark P
10:37
My only counter is that other teams know the Padres are (kinda) desperate, and are asking for guys like Gore or Patino in every offer in the hope that Preller (San Diego's GM, btw) panics.

When a team has a lot of good prospects, other teams try to gouge them for as many of those youngsters as possible, under the "c'mon, you can spare them, c'monnnnnnnn!" tactic

Any chance the Orioles move Mancini - his value is never going to be higher than it is now.
Mark P
10:40
There's certainly a chance, the Orioles have to be open to anything at this point.  Mancini can only play 1B realistically, which limits his value, but a team like Texas or Toronto would work

MLB reference and all these stat sites are such wonderful tools for looking back on old time players stats.  Which old timers have some of your favorite career stat lines?
Mark P
10:41
Every once in a while, I just go to Babe Ruth's B-Ref page and just mutter "what in the world..." to myself

10:42
How would you rank the Cubs trade chips (mainly Bryant, Contreras, Rizzo and Schwarber) in terms of most likely to be traded to least likely.
Mark P
10:43
Just my opinion...

1. Bryant
2. Contreras
3. Schwarber
4. Rizzo
Mookie Betts
10:44
Are the Red Sox fools for not moving me?
Mark P
10:44
Absolutely not, since they want to win in 2020 and you (who I can only assume is the real Mookie Betts) are an awesome player
Mo
10:46
What are the odds that Jete joins me as the second unanimous HOF’er?
Mark P
10:47
Seems pretty solid.  I think once the dam finally burst on the silly "nobody should be a unanimous pick" superstition, you'll see some obvious slam-dunk guys get 100% more regularly
Theo
10:48
Should I maybe trade caratini over Contreras? Caratini playing everyday is better than the 2 free agent
Mark P
10:49
(Theo = Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein, who is celebrating a birthday today)

There's logic to dealing Caratini, maybe as the sweetener on a hard-to-move larger contract
Jeff Fahey
10:50
I'm blown away by Cubs' fans embracing of the Bryant rumors. What's the deal with these fans?
Mark P
10:50
I can't speak for all Cubs fans, but I think many realistically see Bryant as a candidate to leave in free agency anyway down the road, so the team might as well deal him now if this "budget crunch" is such an issue.
10:51
I also get the feeling Cubs fans are impatient for some kind of major transaction, after over a year of half-measures
Scott S.
10:52
Will the Jays address their Outfield problem before spring training? Maybe an Ozuna or Marte?
Mark P
10:52
I don't think Ozuna really solves a lot of problems for the Jays, but Marte would be a big get
Kevin
10:54
With my Cubs absolutely flush in money, why in the world are they worried about a few million dollars in Lux. Tax?  Do I need to start boycotting the games?
Mark P
10:54
It can't be repeated enough --- the actual amount of money paid in luxury tax is not a very substantial sum, especially not for an uber-wealthy team paying the tax for the first time (like Chicago)
10:55
Their tax bill for last season was all of $7.6MM, which is basically pocket change for a billion-dollar franchise.

What kind of package would the Angels have to give up to get Clevinger? Marsh plus?
