If I'm the Rockies, I'm gauging my chances of Story signing an extension right now.  If you get the sense that he isn't keen on staying, he'd be the one I trade rather than Arenado
Sox Bullpen
9:31
Any chance the White Sox go after Hader with prospects?
Mark P
9:31
I'd imagine any team with a bullpen need has checked in with the Brewers about Hader....or, really, even teams with good bullpens, since Hader is an upgrade anywhere
Ross Atkins
9:32
Can my current team perform over .500?
Mark P
9:33
Only 27.5% of chatroom question-answerers think so, Jays GM Ross Atkins!

9:33
Rocky horror or A clockwork Orange?
Mark P
9:34
I'm not big on either, but I guess Rocky Horror.  I just find that one "meh," whereas I think Clockwork Orange is one of the most overrated movies of all time

re. long term contract to JT: think the Astros could do the same with Springer?
Mark P
9:35
Possibly.  I've always had the vibe Springer would be a long-term guy in Houston, but then again, that was before this whole mess with the cheating scandal happened.  It could be that Springer is wary about making a long-term commitment before he knows exactly what the team will face in terms of suspensions, penalties, etc.

Your HOF choices?
Mark P
9:37
Jeter, Walker, Bonds, Clemens, Helton, Rolen.  I'd give a hard think about Manny, Wagner, and Sheffield as well.
It occurs to me that I answered a HOF ballot question a couple of weeks ago, and now i really hope I picked the same guys.  :)

Do you think Aristides Aquino is for real or was he a fluke?
Mark P
9:39
"Fluke" yes, in the sense that he won't be one of the biggest sluggers in the history of the game.  He could still be a productive player for the Reds, however
Mike Chernoff
9:40
Do you think Oscar Mercado is worthy of a long term deal?
Mark P
9:41
(Chernoff = Cleveland GM)

It would fit with the Tribe's usual plan to try and lock Mercado up now, and he did have a nice rookie season.  I might give it one more year just to see what they really have in him before getting into extension talks

If the Cardinals re-sign Ozuna, do they still lose a draft pick?
Mark P
9:41
Nope
Allirow

Over/Under on Vlad's 2020 slash: .290/.400/.700
Mark P
9:42
Yelich was the only player in baseball with an 1.100 OPS last season, so I'm going to go ahead and call that a very easy under
AJ Preller
9:43
Any way a Wil Myers for Jeff Samardja trade could be worked out? What kind of prospect would have to go to SF? Potts? Arias?
Mark P
9:43
(Preller = Padres GM)

If the Giants did want to move Samardzija, why not just trade him somewhere for only prospects, rather than take on another albatross in Myers' contract?
Jeff Bridich
9:45
Does Daniel Murphy have any trade value? Asking for a friend.
Mark P
9:46
"A friend named.....Beff....Jridich.  Yes, that's the ticket."

Murphy is scheduled to make $8MM next year, so unless another team believes in him as a bounce-back, they can find another comparable or better 1B for probably half the money

A’s and Rays seem like a good match to fill A’s 2nd base need with either Brandon Lowe or Joey Wendle (especially with Wander Franco on the way). Have those two teams been in contact much this winter?
Mark P
9:50
The A's and Rays have been relatively frequent trade partners over the years, so another deal between the two wouldn't shock me.  Wendle going back to Oakland would be amusing, though I doubt Tampa would be eager to move Lowe so soon after extending him
Steve
9:52
Why do free agents shun a team like the Twins?
Mark P
9:53
It's not necessarily a "shunning."  Could be some guys just specifically preferred another team, or maybe they don't want to play in the cold, or maybe there are a hundred other reasons why a free agent might pick one club over another.

Mets getting no love? The hitting was great last year. it was only the bullpen that really caused games. Nimmo was injured too. I think they tap out at 90 wins. What say YOU? not the people on the site
Mark P
9:55
77.9% of readers are picking the Mets for under 90 wins, and I get it --- it's hard to win 90 games!  New York will have to hope that a lot of their solid contributors from 2019 keep it going, and they avoid any more big injuries
Ohtani usage
9:56
How is Ohtani used between Starter and DH this year?  What is your guess?
Mark P
9:57
It'll likely be similar to his 2018 usage.....he starts once a week, and is a DH during three or four of the other games
The Beard
9:57
Jeff Samardzija to SD for Wil Myers and MacKenzie Gore. SF takes on all of Myers' contract. Who says no?
Mark P
9:58
There is no way the Padres are trading Gore
At least not in that salary dump scenario

you think we are done making moves this offseason? In the past have they make a late move before ?
Mark P
9:59
Manny Machado wasn't signed until February 21st last year

Assuming we keep Nolan, what happens to Jon Gray?
Mark P
10:02
I think the idea of a Rockies teardown might be overstated.  Remember, this team made the playoffs in both 2017 and 2018....they probably don't suddenly think they have to blow everything up.

While I'm sure they'd love to unload a big contract, or perhaps even move Arenado, Gray, or Story if another team made an enormous offer, it wouldn't be a surprise to me if they stood pat and hoped for better luck with their same roster in 2020

Why wouldn’t we trade Adell for 3 years of a cheap frontline starter in Clevinger? Please help me understand
