Sure, Jorge Soler's movable, but I don't think his trade value's super high despite the year he's having at the plate. One year of control left, in which he'll net a raise.
Luis Castillo
6:47
Let’s be honest. Is there really any chance I get traded?
Connor Byrne
6:47
No.
Ryan Pressley
6:47
could the Dodgers get Ryan Pressley since they have Osuna? Pressley is so good
Connor Byrne
6:47
Nope. You need more than one great reliever. There's a better chance of Pressly pitching against the Dodgers in the World Series this year than pitching for them at any point this season.

Please tell me I am going to escape this horror of a ballpark and lineup so I can help my fantasy baseball owners!
Connor Byrne
6:49
Yes, Nicholas, your Detroit days are numbered.

This deadline is the first of it's kind and it seems to me that July 31st is simply too early. So many teams are still in that go-for-it-limbo, especially in the NL, I suspect we'll see bigger moves in the offseason(s) until MLB pushes the deadline back. Have you anything to support this?
Connor Byrne
6:49
I don't love it either. I'd rather have two deadlines or at least just a deadline within the first 10-15 days of August.
Giles
6:50
Any way I can go play for Cubs?
Connor Byrne
6:50
There's a way for Giles to land with any contender, including the Cubs.
Tyler
6:51
Who do you think the Nats end up with? Assuming they’ve got to get at least two solid bullpen guys right?
Connor Byrne
6:52
They were linked to Shane Greene and Sam Dyson over the weekend, and Mychal Givens and Jake Diekman before that. It's difficult to predict they'll get multiple relievers, but one at least seems like a given.
Matt
6:52
Get rid of Deadline meaning Trading all year round?
Connor Byrne
6:52
No. Just mid- to late August.
Jerome
6:53
If the tigers hold on to Boyd, won’t his value decrease due to less control?
Connor Byrne
6:54
Possibly, but he could finish the season on a tear after his recent slump. Boyd would still have quite a bit of control left thereafter.

Derek Holland has solid numbers vs lefties. Any chance the Giants eat the rest of his contract and get a meaningful player/prospect?
Connor Byrne
6:55
"meaningful"? No, but I did note when writing up Holland's DFA yesterday that he could make sense as a LOOGY for someone if a team's willing to use him just for that purpose.

Is Dustin Pedroia toast, and counting the years to Cooperstown?
Connor Byrne
6:57
You can't really bank on Pedroia to play again. Even he doesn't know if he'll resume his career. As for Cooperstown, it's borderline. Certainly a debatable case there.
Confused
6:58
What is a LOOGY?
Connor Byrne
6:58
"lefty one out guy" - a southpaw reliever who only faces lefties
Ed McWilliams
6:58
Do you like woba,  wrc+ or another offensive stat the most
Connor Byrne
6:59
I'm a big wRC+ fan, as it's adjusted for ballparks and eras.

Orioles on the right track?
Connor Byrne
7:00
Mike Elias seems like a good hire, but he stepped into a tough situation and there's a long way to go to get out of it. "Not going anywhere for a while? Grab a Snickers."
Steve
7:01
What is your too-early choice for the AL and NL Wild-Card?
Connor Byrne
7:02
I think my preseason picks were the Mets and the Cards, with the Nats and Cubs winning those divisions. Swing and a miss on the Mets! I'll go Nats and Cards now.
in the AL...
7:03
Indians/Red Sox, I guess. I don't want to bury the reigning champs just yet.

7:03
Would the reds flip Anthony descalifini to the Yankees for Clint Frazier work for both teams
Connor Byrne
7:04
I don't think it's an awful proposal, but I do doubt the Yankees would do it.

What year will the Angels make the playoffs next?
Connor Byrne
7:05
Depends on the type of offseason they have. They've got some really nice complements to Trout in the lineup, and some appealing relievers. Gotta address the rotation in a meaningful way, though, and I'm not talking about getting the Harveys and Cahills. At least Ohtani's coming back next year. If the Angels can fix the rest of their starting group over the winter, they'll be a popular playoff pick for 2020.
Mets :/
7:05
Can you explain woba too?
in 5 years
7:06
Who will be the greatest player, active?
Connor Byrne
7:06
Trout is one of the greatest players ever, let alone active, so that's my answer
Mets :/
7:07
Any chance BVW gets canned in the offseason? Just when you think they can't make any worse decision they do.
