Do I really want to play north of the border?
Mark P
8:17
If the Jays are in Buffalo again in 2021, wouldn't be an issue!

Lance Lynn gets traded to (blank) for (blank)?
Mark P
8:19
Lynn is another player who is seemingly a fit on, like, two-thirds of the league.  Probably everywhere, given his contract.  Teams who don't land one of the top free agent pitchers will definitely be giving the Rangers a call....if they haven't already, that is, since this season's pitching market isn't deep
Playoff Trout
8:21
Any chance the Angels enlist baby Yoda to use his space magic to help out? Disneyland is right there.
Mark P
8:21
If you told me Trout was a Marvel character using his powers to excel at baseball, I wouldn't be surprised
J.T. Realmuto
8:22
What uniform will I be wearing next season?
Mark P
8:23
If I had to guess (and I do, since you asked me a direct question and that's the whole point of this chat), I would still predict the Phillies. They're under specific pressure to re-sign Realmuto given the big price they paid to acquire him from the Marlins.

we should have interest in Kluber coming to NYY on a 1 year deal right?
Mark P
8:24
Another "just about every team should have interest on a one-year deal" type of player
Kluber's last two years were a writeoff, obviously, but at a low-cost one-year contract, there's tons of upside
Karl Farbman

When will MLB allow draft picks to be traded like every other major sport?
Chief
8:27
How do the Cardinals fix their outfield mess? The combination of Fowler .233, Bader .226, Carlson .200 and O'Neill .173 isn't going to get them deep into the playoffs.
Mark P
8:29
Oops, loaded the next question before answering the first.  In order...

  1. Not sure.  If MLB wants to generate more interest in the draft, you'd think authorizing pick trades would be a bigger way to achieve this than shifting the draft to All-Star weekend
  2. Carlson is a rookie, Bader is a strong fielder and can at least hit lefties really well, and O'Neill is still young.  Do I think they need outfield help?  Definitely, but calling it a mess is a bit of a stretch.

Will we sign Trevor Beuer
Mark P
8:30
I feel like Bauer would be a personality clash with La Russa/Reinsdorf, so I'll lean towards no

Kingery for ottavino how says no ?

Yankees Trade OF Mike Tauchmann?
Mark P
8:32
Might have had a better shot at this last offseason, but Tauchman is a pretty decent bench piece.  For a Yankees team plagued by outfield injuries, Tauchman is valuable to have around
Christopher Guest

Stones or Beatles?
Mark P

Beatles

8:33
What would I get for German Marquez or Trevor Story?
Mark P
8:35
Marquez is the bigger trade asset, since he's signed through 2023 (2024 club option) at a reasonable price, he's young, and he's shown he can pitch well even at Coors Field.  The Rockies would rightly ask for a massive haul for Marquez in any trade.

They'd get a good return for Story too, but within reason since he's a free agent after next year.

This offseason we will have really late signings like a few years ago (Harper) or most major moves will be well done before spring training?
Mark P
8:37
I tend to think it'll be a lot of late signings, since some teams might not to make any big decisions until they have a better idea if fans will be allowed to attend games
Cards Bias???
8:38
Mark, you seem to defend the Cardinals a lot. Are you a Cars fan?
Mark P
8:39
Shake It Up was a pretty good album

I'm not a Cardinals fan, I'm pretty neutral towards them.  It just seems like there's a lot of negativity directed towards the team (even by its own fanbase) when overall, the Cards are still a pretty good club.
8:40
Could they make improvements?  Absolutely.  Have they made mistakes?  Definitely.  But by and large, a lot of teams in baseball have much bigger problems than the Cardinals

Pearl Jam by a mile, they're one of my favorite bands of all time

do you see a lot of good players not playing next year? For example, Say mark canha gets nontendered and no one offers him anywhere close to his 5-7m worth, and he never signs,
Mark P
8:44
Firstly, I doubt the A's non-tender Canha, but I guess we can't rule anything out in a post-Brad Hand world.

In his specific case, a team will eventually offer someone for a solid everyday player like that.  But you're not wrong in thinking that a lot of decent players (maybe more platoon types, or guys who are borderline everyday types) are going to be squeezed into minor league deals, if not not playing at all

Is NYY's #1 prospect Jasson Dominguez really a second coming of Mike Trout?
Mark P
8:47
To quote the folks from Letterkenny, you can take it down about 20 percent on hype around any Yankees prospect.  Dominguez almost surely won't be the next Trout since that's an insanely high bar to cross....but can he be a fantastic MLB player?  Seems like the tools are all there, sure.

Hey Mark, thanks for taking my call. First time, long time. About the Jays...does the Ray signing indicate their plans to fill in the club with cost effective pieces or is a big trade and/or signing still possible?
