Kim Ha-Seong to the Brewers? They brought Thames and Lindbloom from the KBO. And they need a guy at 3rd!
Mark P
7:00
Kim makes a lot of sense for Milwaukee, their infield is lacking at multiple spots.
Right Hon. Pierre Trudeau

Who's the best MLBer to ever hail from Canada?
Mark P
7:02
Fergie Jenkins for pitchers, Larry Walker for position players
Derek Falvey
7:03
Would I have a better all-arounf team this year if I traded Sano and let Cruz walk for Rooker and Kirilloff, than if I kept Sano and Cruz and let Rosario walk for one of Kirilloff or Rooker?
Mark P
7:03
Maybe the middle ground is keeping Cruz and letting both Rosario and Sano go

7:04
Are the phillies going to move a contract or two, or are they just using their losses as cover for not signing anyone this off season?
Mark P
7:05
Going into seller mode would not endear them to Philly fans (who are already quickly losing patience), but maybe a delicate balance between adding players while still trying to unload a contract or two might be possible?
It's difficult to find this balance in the best of times, for teams that (you know) actually have their front office figured out

Oliver Perez is the closer for the Pirates in 2021?
Mark P
7:06
I'm going to just keep assuming Perez keeps re-signing in Cleveland for the next decade

Do you think the a’s will trade for Lindor, story, or Baez?
Mark P
7:07
Baez is the cheapest of the three and thus probably the only one that's really feasible as an Oakland target.

The skyward view from the Dome, with the CN Tower looming over the field, is top tier. Any new stadium in Toronto has to keep the location.
Mark P
7:09
I tend to agree, though I'm biased just because I'm so used to the locale.  There are probably more than a few other spots in Toronto that would also be good spots for a new ballpark, but the area next to the CN Tower just checks so many boxes --- close to public transit, close to Union Station, right downtown, close to so many condo-dwellers within walking distance, etc.
7:10
In fact, for years I wondered if a new Jays ballpark might be constructed on the other side of the CN Tower, where the Ripley's aquarium currently stands.  That's probably not an option now since the aquarium has become an attraction in its own right (and I have no idea who owns that particular parcel of land)
Cubs
7:11
Do you think Javy Baez will be extended and how long?
Mark P
7:12
I'm wondering if the ship has maybe sailed on a Baez extension.
Baseball Hall of Fame
7:13
Only 15 votes in, but Clemens, Schilling, and Bonds only have 15 votes. Is this a sign that no one gets into the Hall this year?
Mark P
7:14
Schilling might squeak over the 75% line, but he would be it.

I actually wonder if some voters might be unconsciously considering the fact that a proper Cooperstown induction ceremony for July doesn't look too feasible at this point.

thoughts on the recent Hoffman Stephenson trade?
Mark P
7:16
I liked it.  If anything, I think teams should try more of these dual change-of-scenery types of trades of stalled ex-top prospects
Ross is the Boss
7:16
How about the Cubs trade Contreras and Give Caratini starting job.  Saves them money and then Ross is player manger as backup catcher and resign Lester to one year deal
Mark P
7:17
As fun as it would be to see another player/manager in the big leagues, Ross' playing days are done.  Trading Contreras and re-signing Lester, however, are much more realistic possibilities
Andy
7:17
I think Jerry DP traded for Trammel to give him flexibility to deal for someone like Snell. Does Kirby, Trammel and another top 100 prospect get it done?
Mark P
7:18
I'm kind of wondering how much top-prospect stock or trade stock Trammell has, just because it's a bit of a red flag when a guy has already been dealt multiple times.
7:19
That said, Trammell and Kirby boost that trade package nicely.  The Rays would probably want at least one player close to MLB readiness for 2021, however

Forced to chose on or the other for top Canadian player, Fergie or Larry?
Mark P
7:20
Fergie, though I suspect my answer would have been Walker if he'd been healthier throughout his career
Lilly
7:20
When will SF stop dumpster diving?
Mark P
7:20
Their dumpster-diving has paid off nicely so far, so [Oscar the Grouch voice] bring on the trash!

Does it annoy you when someone asks a question posing as a GM/ player/owner?
Mark P
7:22
Nope

If anything, I would get a huge kick out of it being the actual GM/player/owner hiding in plain sight
Rowdy Tellez
7:23
Do I fit in Toronto long term again?
Mark P
7:24
Tellez had a nice year at the plate in 2020 but I'm still doubtful he's a building block based on a positional logjam alone.  Having both Vlad Jr. and Tellez locking up the 1B/DH spots isn't great from a roster construction standpoint.

Give me any reason not to non tender Bryant?  If I could have traded him, it would have been done under Theo. No takers.
Mark P
7:26
Because Bryant's poor 2020 season aside, he's still a terrific player.  Letting him for go for nothing is a complete waste.  Trade offers probably haven't yet taken off because teams are waiting to see if Bryant *does* get non-tendered, so after December 2, talks might start getting more serious.

7:27
Why does it take months for MLB free agents to sign, when free agency is resolved within a few days in the NFL and the NBA?
Mark P
7:27
The NFL and NBA have strict salary caps and teams want to move quickly to get that space accounted for

You're a GM on a team without much to spend.  What players would you target?
