A year ago, I would've said well over $200MM but now it's a much more interesting question. He'll obviously need to perform well in 2021, naturally, and if that happens I suspect he'll still get that big payday regardless of the game's overall financial pictures. Superstar players get paid, period.

Doesn't need to be an either/or given Toronto's catching depth. They could roll with Jansen/Kirk as their duo going forward, and look to trade at least one of McGuire, Moreno, or Adams

Any chance STL blows it up and rebuilds? If we can’t even work out a contract with the best defensive 2nd baseman in the league that wants to stay and the two faces of the franchise right now should they just look to do a partial rebuild? Thanks

In a division where everyone else is standing pat or worse, it doesn't make much sense for the Cardinals to start selling as well. I don't think you'll ever see the Cards do a full-on "rebuild"

White Sox getting Cespedes doesn't seem to justify cheaping out on Springer. He could be good, but Springer is already a star and could have put them over the top. How likely is it this move makes me look foolish for doubting in a few years?

Yoelki is at least a year away from the majors, so I certainly don't think the Sox see as him as an immediate contributor or a "Springer replacement."

If you were the GM of the DBax.. would you considered dealing with Cleveland for Lindor? A deal like Tim Locastro LF/OF/Util (immediate help in the OF) along with prospects Alek Thomas CF/OF, Blake Walston LHSP, & Wilderd Patino as a throw in to make the deal fair given the Indians are giving up one of the top five players in MLB?

Another big bullpen arm seems like a natural, and I don't think they're done adding to the lineup. They don't seem to be in on Springer, but once he signs, they can step into the second-tier names on the outfield market

Depends what Arihara wants, whether he is looking for just the bigger offer possible, or if other factors (playing for a winner, playing closer to Japan, weather, etc.) weigh just as heavily in his decision-making.

Yeah very surprised by how little talk there’s been on Brantley. It feels similar to DJLM 2 years ago and so I’ve been expecting him to go to the Yankees but they seem intent on trying to get LeMahieu back tho they certainly don’t want to overpay for him. Given that they clearly want to cut payroll I thought they would opt for Brantley and let DJ go since they have a big need for a LHed bat...

There has been a fair amount of buzz about Brantley. Looking back at past reports, he's been linked to the Blue Jays, Astros, Twins, Yankees, White Sox, and i'm sure some teams we don't know about have also made some calls

I do wonder if he's really the Plan A for a lot of these teams, or if Brantley is the Plan B. For instance, the Yankees have LeMahieu as Plan A, the Twins have Cruz, the Jays have LeMahieu and Springer, etc.
